"I like that Atria Lafayette Hill was very clean. The people were very friendly. When I walked in, I didn't feel like I was going into a nursing home. I felt like I was coming into an apartment more so than some of the other places. What I liked about Atria was the fact that it was age-in-place. You can stay in the apartment if you need personal care or if you need any kind of physical assistance. The only time you have to move out of that apartment is if you have to go into memory care. I like the idea that my brother can possibly stay there for a while, and he wouldn't have to move locations. So that's very nice, and I like that. The other thing I like about them is that they don't have a buy-in. They had a community fee that was whatever the rent was for the month. And it only has a hundred rooms, so to me, that wasn't that big. And it was pleasing to the eye. I like the idea that it's a la carte. If they need a little bit of assistance, it's this much more amount, or if they need medication, it's this much more amount. And the staff who gave the tour was amazing. She spent a lot of time with me, and answered all my questions. She was very informative. If she didn't have an answer, she looked it up for me and she got back to me. So that was impressive."

"I have chosen Springfield Senior Living for my father. The rooms are good-sized and pretty spacious. My father is in memory care, so they have sections that you have to go through a door, and you need a code in order to go through that door. The Alzheimer's patients can't go beyond that door because they won't remember their code. I thought that was pretty cool. For the elevators, you need codes and stuff, too. It's a very, very clean place. The memory care had their own dining room. The staff members are very nice, very helpful, and very informative. I asked all kinds of questions, and they were very quick to answer the questions and didn't hesitate. It is a private place. I didn't see any activities, but my father said they do activities. They have a paper of what they do daily. As for the value for the money, I'm definitely getting the worth of it. They get three meals a day, the activities, and the care that he needs. It's helpful for me."

"We toured The Residence at Bala Cynwyd. It's very new and very nice. Even for wheelchair access, everything's level, and there are no stairs to worry about. It has a lot of activities for seniors. The place has only been six months. The staff was fine. Their floor plan was nice. They have a library, a bar, and an area to watch TV. We had a fruit plate, and it was not a regular meal, but it was good."

The facility seemed well maintained."

"My wife moved into Sunrise of Haverford a week ago. They seem to be very nice to her, and she's getting very good care. They put her in a wheelchair or a regular chair, and she's sitting up as much as possible, and they try to involve her in activities. She's not just stuck in a bed permanently. They seem very pleasant and professional. The memory care unit has lots of activities, and they try to get them involved, and the people are extremely nice. They do singing, little exercises, and batting a balloon around. The food seems really good and very plentiful. For breakfast, they gave her sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs, and a pancake. They have a little courtyard for the memory care residents. And when the weather is good, they take them out in wheelchairs."

"My wife moved into Wyncote Place. It was the best all-around package. As with so many of them, you have a base price and then you have all the add-ons, and they do not have that at Wyncote Place. They have some activities. They have choral groups, musicians, and singers come in. There are different things they do. The staff members are very competent and caring. They know their jobs. They know what to do."

"Symphony Square was beautiful, it was a lovely place. The director was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. She showed us the rooms and the dining area. The dining area was beautiful, they had silverware and glass and not plastics. They take care of the residents and it's actually a more intimate community which is very nice. They were all lovely people. They have karaoke nights, arts and crafts, they paint together, and there were a lot of cognitive therapy that they do that are fun stuff. They also take the residents on outings. We saw them doing karaoke when we showed up, and everyone looked happy participating. It was also a combination of assisted living and memory care, so everyone got to participate in it."

"My tour at Sunrise of Dresher was useful. It was nice and clean. The staff was wonderful and they gave me a good tour. I think it was cost-effective so I'm on the right track. I wasn't able to try the food but the menu looks good, and I could see that they have good menu options. They had bingo, puzzles, and stuff. It seems like there are a lot of things for them to do and a lot of activities. I looked at both memory care and assisted living."

"We live at The Quadrangle, and we are extremely happy. We are in a cottage. We've been here for eight years. We wouldn't want to be anywhere else. We have all the support we need for any problem that we have. This is a physically beautiful community with 70 acres of woodland. We have trails around. I ride an electric cart, and I can ride all around the fire road. We have a pond. We have very active activities, all organized by the residents. The Quadrangle emphasizes the life of the mind. Most of our residents are highly educated, formerly people in education and business. We have a common dining room, and we have a grill, and you can eat at either place. You have to have reservations for the dining room. It's very elegant. We think the food is wonderful, it's healthy, and has many choices. Since we live in a cottage and my husband and I are still well and in good health, we generally get our dinner and bring it back to the cottage so that we can eat privately. We have just undergone an extensive internal renovation of the facility, and this summer, there will be an external renovation of more plantings and more designs. We have over 70 activities."

"My mother-in-law will be moving into Arden Courts of King of Prussia. We chose them because they specialize in behavioral dementia. They are very good at what they do. Few places specialize in frontal lobe dementia, and they are very trained in handling the behaviors, de-escalating, and redirecting. The rooms are smaller for a purpose because they try to encourage all residents to be out among all of the other residents. It's in a circle, so they can kind of walk in any direction, and get where they need to be. They have full access to the outside courts, which was very important to my mother-in-law. They've got activities almost like every other hour just to keep them up and moving and interactive. You can tell that it's a little dated. It's an older community. It's not a modernized, community but it's fit for dementia care."

"Commonwealth Senior Living at Willow Grove had the homiest atmosphere of any of the places I visited. It also is the least expensive of any of them. It has no outdoor facilities or campus, but it has a beautiful dining room overlooking a pond and a nice view of the outside. It just didn't appeal to me. The hallways were narrow, but I was very impressed by their hominess. People who were living there were, "Oh, hello. How are you?" It's a small facility, which can have its drawbacks, but it can also have its pluses. It's not as desirable as the others. It uses hydroponics to grow their own food. They had a big refrigerator kind of thing and they showed us how they're able to grow lettuce and spinach and pick from that all the time, so that on the health spectrum, it would rate highly, particularly with today's emphasis on eating fresh. That is one of their big things, but they wouldn't have the activities and they don't have a live-in doctor or medical center."
