I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father was a short term resident who was to be there for 20 days for rehab following a pnuemonia diagnosis and was dead within 10 days. He fell out of bed 9 times in 10 days with no brain scan done, claimed he was eating 75% of 4 meals a day but lost 16 pounds and found his false teeth in a drawer, had his medical records reviewed and was being given high doses of basically benadryl to knock him out and sleep all the time, never had his own clothes on (even when he passed he has someone else's clothes on, and his death certificate read that he died of bacterial pnuemonia due to open sores and them not cleaning him. Would not recommend this place to anyone . . .please if your family members are there, watch EVERY minute of EVERY day they are there or move them to another facility.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

We had a really bad experience at Shawneesprings. My father was there for rehab and getting antibiotics. I felt like a family member had to be there at all times because he was not being responded to when he needed to go to the restroom. We were told by the staff to expect a 20-30 minute wait after we hit the call button. Therefore, I had to help him daily to use the restroom. Otherwise, he would have wet the bed. THe first night he was there, he was not cleaned up and had the same gown on from the hospital. I had to ask daily that he be cleaned up for the day. One day I had to wait til 4:00 PM for him to get a sponge bath and medicine on his sore. Also, I do not believe anyone addressed him by name in the five days he was there. The nursing staff seemed professional and the food was good and the room seemed cleaned, but otherwise a terrible place. When we got him out of there into another facility, everyone was relieved. I do not recommend this place for anyone you love. Also, if there were any activities, no one told us about them.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I went to Shawnee Springs for rehab after having surgery. Whenever I needed help with getting in or out of bed, or needed changing, it took the staff, during the majority of my stay, between an hour to two hours to answer the call light. Twice in the middle of the night, I needed help and ended up calling my family to come help me, as no staff came to assist after having my call light on for an hour and forty minutes. A number of times when the staff did come in, they would say that they would go get someone who could help me. But no one ever showed up. One time a staff member came in, and I said I needed help getting up from the bed, and she said: "well, how am I supposed to do that?" I was not assisted with washing or cleaning up until the last day, when I was able to wash myself. I had physical therapy twice for 15 minutes. I was told that I could go to the various recreational activities they offered and that they would bring me a schedule. However, I never received a schedule, even after again requesting it. The food was deplorable. I was supposed to stay there for 3 weeks, but my family got me out after a week. I would not recommend this facility to anyone.

My experience has been great here! Everyone here is great. The STNAs and nurses take care of my needs. Physical Therapy is the reason I am able to go home now. They work their patients hard to get them rehabbed to go home. Social Services (Krista) has helped me with everything, if it wasn't for her I would have even a harder time. She helped me with my insurance concerns. My sister was a patient here once before and she had a great experience too- this is why I chose the building. Food is good. I really like the fish dinner with macaroni and cheese! If I ever need care in the future I would certainly return to Shawneeespring of Harrison.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My ex-husband was a resident of Shawnee Carespring. They have excellent care and excellent food. It's clean and it's extremely nice. They have entertainment, and it was very, very good. It's just an excellent facility, I rate it very high, and I would love to get him back into it again.

The rooms are not what they tell you in the descriptions, the beds are very narrow and not comfortable. The staff does not answer calls from the patients, I was sitting with my husband when he called to go to the bathroom and was about to take him myself after a good half hour. When I was not there I found out they just put adult diapers on him instead of getting him up. If they had started his antibiotics, he would not have gotten an infection through his blood stream and died after only two days there. I also had to get someone to turn his oxygen back on after he was finally put back in bed after complaining about his back hurting and almost falling out of the wheelchair that no one was paying any attention to. I do not know how they have any rating at all! They will not let family stay all night to watch over their loved ones either. When I went to pick up my husbands belongings, I noticed everyone made themselves scarce and the person at the front window even left. The only positive thing I have is that the therapist Brian was great with my husband.

What a wonderful facility! My father was at Shawnee recently for rehab for a hip replacement. Rooms were very spacious and clean. Staff went over and above to provide care, security and comfort. The therapy department did a wonderful job at working with my father to teach the proper techniques and prepare him for a successful release home. They were extremely patient and caring. My father enjoyed the food and provided lots of options. All staff seemed to enjoy their work and truly had the resident's best interests at heart. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this facility.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I came to Shawneespring for my stay after my car wreck in July. I stayed on the first floor where I had a very nice clean room with a big walk in closet where I had plenty of room to put all my clothes and personal belongings in. The staff was great they went above and beyond especially nurse Sarah she always had a smile on her face and a sweet caring voice that made me feel like everything was going to be alright. I had therapy Monday through Friday twice a day. The therapy team was top notch and truly cared about getting me back up on my feet again. Also there were daily activities such as bingo, crafts and music entertainment to occupy your time as well. Over all this was a great place to stay beautiful & clean and I was treated great I would recommend this facility to friends and family I loved it here.

My father was in Shawneespring for rehab because he can't walk. They served three meals a day, and the staff was good. They need more people to work there because they're always short of staff.

We chose Shawneespring mainly because of the location and because the staff and physical therapy are good. I haven’t tried the food, but they offered me a meal. They only had one server, so it’s a long wait time for the patients to get their food. They have a chapel and activities room that I have seen people in.

Shawnee Spings is a very clean well run facility. The therapy department is top notch. I have spent considerable time in the therapy department working with my dad. The attention to details and providing multiple avenues to help the residents is wonderful.
