Nursing Home Communities in Lorain, OH

"They treat my grandma well at the facility. She can move about as she likes and they have alot of activities to keep her busy. The staff is wonderful and is always helping everyone get around and to where they need to go. She always has good things to say about the food there as well when we visit. They have a beautiful landscape as well. We often go outside during our visits as they have a large amount of property. There is a gazebo with chairs and tables out in front and also plenty of benches to sit on under the trees. When the weather is nice we often do our visiting out there, which is never a problem with the staff. When we call to talk to grandma, we are not put on hold for long periods either, they are quick to get her to the phone and never give you a hard time. She has her hair done every week there as well and she looks great when they're done. They play games and have a flat screen tv in the main area of the facility. She really seems to like the place and talks with the other residents alot. We enjoy visiting with her there, it's always a pleasant experience. "

"We have found Amherst Manor Assisted Living for my mother-in-law. She is already there. It's very nice. It's neat, and it's nicely landscaped outside. It seems to be well kept up. The staff is excellent. They have a new cook. I tried some food the other day, and it was very good. They have crafts and bingo, and they have a happy hour. The room that she's in is very large. There are two people in the room; it's a nice room. The facility is not perfect, but it is good. I had mashed potatoes, gravy, meatloaf, succotash, watermelon, juice, and water. My mother-in-law is not very active, but I noticed the lady in the room with her is happy with the activities. My mother-in-law is 91, and she doesn't do anything."

"Wesleyan is expensive. It’s very limited on who can get in, and you have to commit to paying for a couple of years before they’ll allow you to go on Medicaid. It’s a very nice place, upscale, exclusive. It has a cafeteria, shop, and fast food. "

"Kingston of Vermilion was a wonderful nursing home. It was very clean, and the rooms were comfortable. The employees were wonderful. They were all very friendly. All of the employees worked very hard. Unlike most nursing facilities, you could tell that they liked their jobs, and their patients. One employee even encouraged me to continue my schooling, and recommended a wonderful school for me to attend. They truly helped my grandmother have a wonderful stay. In the beginning, she was a little depressed about being away from home, but a few weeks in, she felt like she was at home. They did everything that they could to make her comfortable, as well as visiting family members and friends. Many times, nurses and aides would drop in and ask us if we would like something to drink, or some snacks. I have never seen that in any other facility. I would definitely recommend Kingston of Vermilion. "

"Avon Oaks is well staffed. The number of people that they have there is good. My parents get a lot of attention every day. It's not the most modern state of the art place, but it's very clean. It doesn't smell or anything. The people are very communicative. I get calls almost daily if something happens or if they have a question or an issue. Even the administration is easy to get a hold of. I tried a couple other places and I couldn't get people to call me back. They're just overly communicative, whether it's social workers or nurses or attendants, so I think it's a pretty good place. They have all kinds of stuff there. They played bingo and they did a lot with them."

"My mother is in O'Neill Healthcare for her rehab. Everything is fine. I do not have a problem with anything going on there. My mother says they treat her well. This is the second time that she is there for the past two months, and she does not mind being there for rehab. She is sharing a room, and it seems to be okay. There is a TV and a bath that both patients share. The food I see looks okay. There some activities listed on the board for patients to do like bus trips and bingo night. There is a hair salon there, a library and it seems like there are things there for the people to actually partake. There are a couple of community rooms. It looks like a pretty nice facility. "

"My mother is currently at Kendal at Oberlin. It's fantastic. It's everything anybody could want in a community. The food is delicious and the portions are the right size. There's a nice waitstaff there in the dining room. They make food to order. It's excellent. The room is generous in size. The bathroom is large and permits a wheelchair to move around. There's an attentive staff that's there around the clock. It runs the gamut. They have painting classes, an active library and book club, and theater programs. Because it's in a college town, there are a lot of college faculty there who will give lectures. There are musical recitals and performances because there's a conservatory in Oberlin. It's an active community."

"I visited St Mary of the Woods. I spoke with four different people; the physical therapist, the lady that gave me the tour, and a couple of other caregivers, and I was very amazed. They have many activities for both people that are there for long term and short term. I was very amazed that they have bingo and road trips. I am very pleased with what they offer. They have a dining area for people that don't want to eat in their room. They have spaces outside their room and small tables that you could use if you didn't want to mingle with anybody. It's very close to my home, it's very convenient. The people that I spoke with were very helpful."

"My mother-in-law moved into the assisted living of Towne Center Community Campus. It's good, and she seems to be enjoying it. They seem to have activities every day, so she tends to like that, and she's doing good. The rooms are great, they're big, and spacious. The staff is cordial, and we do not have any issues with the staff. She said the food is pretty average."

"Both of my parents were nursing home residents at the same time. It is a very nicely decorated facility and is family owned which I think to be a good thing. They had great holiday gatherings for residents and family, good food and entertainment. They accomodate a variety of religious experiences for the residents as well, which my mom enjoyed. The staff took extra special care in dressing my parents in clean, matching outfits. My mom's hair was always done nicely and they even took time to put her makeup on. They were on a waiting list to get the same room. However, I found it was nice for them to be in separate rooms. For one thing, if one didn't feel well the other didn't have to be present yet feel helpless as my mom would sometimes say. She felt bad that she couldn't take care of my dad, they were both wheelchair bound. The physical therapists were very good and attentive to my parents needs. The nursing home is within a short distance from a hospital which turned out to be convenient especially since when one parent was hospitalized I still had another one in the nursing home to attend to. Another thing I liked was all the socialization my parents received by being residents in a nursing home. Constant hustle and bustle of residents, staff, and visitors. And there are some quiet little nooks for more privacy when needed for those times you don't feel like sitting in your room yet you don't want to be around a crowd. "

"O'Neill Healthcare Bay Village is wonderful. It's very nice. All the meals here are included. The staff is excellent. I'm on soft meals right now, and the food has been OK."

"My brother is in Westlake Rehab & Nursing Center. He told me he liked the place. He doesn't like the food, but he likes everything else. For him, it's not that tasty, but it looks healthy. The place is very clean, and they take the residents out to activities which was great. They have several levels of care."

"My father is here. It is better than where he was at. I like it. The main issue was that he could have his pet with him there (because his cat is his whole world and more important than me). It was a more of a homey environment, as opposed to a hospital setting. It's not as institutionalized feeling. It looks like a Swiss chateau. It's nestled back in the woods. I didn't even know they were there, and I've lived in that neighborhood for over 30 years. The staff are excellent. They are really, really helpful. They call me any time anything happens or if they're going to do anything. Physical therapy comes in, and they let me know when they are there. They keep me abreast of visitations and what's going on. I'm very happy with them. My father loves their food. He is happy with his meals. I have seen him doing arts and crafts, but I haven't been up there when activities are going on. They give him a haircut once a month. They just took my father to go get his eye exam done, which was not free, but it was very reasonable. The fact of having that is a nice option. The staff have been phenomenal from day one. My father is in a locked ward. He can get access to the other parts of the facility, but he has to have someone with him. He doesn't have free range of the whole place. He can't go outside on his own because he has to be monitored, so he doesn't wander off. They have an ice cream or a malt shop in there. They have an actual bar in there."

"My dad was at Rae-Ann Suburban. I was not impressed with the facility itself. You walk in and you know you're in a nursing home. It was terrible. There were a couple of staff members there that didn't like their job, or they were just there because they had to be. I think they're shorthanded, and everybody was overworked. My dad ended up with COVID while he was in there, and he was ground zero, yet they still don't know where he got it from. And then they just locked him up in a room for ten days. It didn't seem like they really paid much attention to him. That was a pretty depressing time for him. However, the admission staff and his personal counselor there were topnotch. The patient advocate was really awesome, too. The food was terrible though. They need to improve on the variety and the portion of food. Sometimes they bring them a dinner that would just be a snack."
