Nursing Home Communities in Belding, MI

"Mom is at The Oaks at Belmont. We chose that place because of its location; that's where she grew up. The staff is very caring and I am really impressed with them. The facility is beautiful. I think every day they just engage Mom with activities. She went to a cooking class, she goes to exercise classes, they take her for walks, they're always checking in on her, and they have a bus that takes her on outings. I like the care they gave her, because she can use a walker, but she's wobbly, so they just put her in a wheelchair and we don't have to worry about her falling. When Mom had to go to a week in the hospital, everybody came up to us and asked what's wrong with her, where she was at, and that they missed her. They are genuine people. Everybody knows her and they're careful with her. They have a happy hour on Friday where they give drinks, cakes, or a charcuterie board. It's just a very nice little gathering and anybody can come to it. My husband has been there many times. They play music, they have singers come in, and I really like that they have pop machines, so you don't have to sit there and ask for a drink. You go up there and get your drink yourself. They have lemonade, tea, water, ginger ale, and Coke products, which I love. It's expensive, but they are taking really good care of her. The food's good, it's a brand-new facility, the staff is good, it's always clean, you don't have any foul odors coming out, and everything seems to be running pretty good. So, it's just what it is."

"Friendly staff. Our biggest concern is that our father refuses to bathe and they don't force him to. Seems as though it would be a health issue to not have a clean body. They also don't seem to encourage him very much to participate in the planned activities. He is content to stay in his room and I think with a little encouragement he could be taken in his wheelchair to the activity room and might just enjoy some of the activities that are planned.We also have concerns with billing - several times we haven't received our bill in a timely manner. And our medicaid recertification was sent to Dad - and was just dropped back in the mail with please forward to us. Post Office returned to sender and therefore our paperwork was late getting back to the state. "

"We toured Porter Hills Village. It was a very nice facility, but it felt like a motel room. I mean, they even have little patios to walk out onto, which are nice. It didn't feel like you were living in a community. It was very clean and very different from how it's set up in the other facility, but it was certainly a very nice area. It just didn't feel like home. They were nice. I felt at heart that people really went out of their way to be friendly. They had a lot of volunteers. The dining area was nice and bright."

"I visited this facility while looking for a potential place for my mother to live. I observed a clean, spacious environment, a pleasant dining area and nutritious meals, and an effort to respect the independence and vitality of the residents. I saw plenty of amiable residents who were enjoying each other, and they all appeared to be comfortable in their environment. I would consider this facility as a possible placement for my mother. "

"Overall the facility wasn't bad, of course nothing is like home but the care provided was good. My grand father could not go home so the care that was provided to him was very good. The staff worked hard to take care of him and provided the best possible care to him. They also worked very hard to physiclly rehabilte him. "

"Touring Holland Home Raybrook Campus was an enjoyable experience of seeing what was available. They presented different options in terms of living arrangements and different types of financial costs associated with that. The place was well done and well kept up and people were hospitable. Given that I taught at a college, this place was located very close to that college so that we could continue to enjoy the activities that are associated with the college. There were common areas. There's this swimming pool, a woodworking shop, an exercise place, and different restaurants."

"They are doing pretty good at Spectrum Health Rehab & Nursing Center according to my friend. She is in a two-person room, so they are a little austere. They have bingo, and they also have arts and crafts. "

"Knowing that we would be in the area, we decided to make an appointment to see Holland Home Fulton Manor, while looking at places for my friend's mother. We really liked how well the staff was prepared for our visit. They had taken the time to find out about my friend's mother and the things she likes. The grounds were all well manicured "“ with plenty of areas for residents to enjoy. We were shown the common areas, all of which were really nice. There were plenty of scheduled and non-scheduled activities to choose from. The dining room was really lovely "“ as were all the adjacent communal areas. Food choices we saw looked interesting and well prepared. The snacks offered include everything from specially designed and prepared baked goods to fresh fruits and vegetables. Despite the fact that they were made to be healthy, they all looked really great. The private rooms were decorated tastefully with a homey, light and airy atmosphere. Each space had nice views of the surrounding area. Bathrooms were designed with safety seats and rails. The common areas were nicely decorated and home-like. There were many places for residents to enjoy a variety of activities, from games to reading and seeing films. All of the seniors looked very well cared for and seemed quite content living within this environment - where they had plenty of freedom, in a safe and sensible place. "

"We looked at Clark Retirement at Franklin. They were very friendly and knowledgeable. We didn't really have a ton of time, so we didn't give it as much time as we did the other. There was nothing wrong with it. The people were great and very knowledgeable. It's just the other one had a better location and was brand new, so that's kind of why we went in that direction. They had a pool that was nice. I did not try the food, but the dining area looked very clean. It looked fine. They're a little bit older facility. Nothing wrong with this place. It was just kind of nice to see the new ones. The staff were very friendly and helpful."

"The staff's wonderful and the food's great at Spectrum, but my mom's still ambitious and would like more interactive activities. The only complaint she has is that she and the other residents only have a little something to do in the morning and then they sit in the rooms the rest of the day. The facility seems all nice, clean, and well-kept. "

"My mother, who recently passed away,lived at Holland Homes for eight years. She could not have recieved better care at any price. The staff is very attentive and caring to the residents. All of her needs were always met there. Every time I visited the staff was very friendly and inviting. She was never treated bad. They treat their residents with care and compassion. Visiting is very flexible. The facility is very clean and well kept. Nurses and other staff keep family members updated about the resident. I would recommend this nursing home more than any other one in kentwood. There is a wide range of of activities for the clients to take part in and they are also able to leave the facility and go on walks or get time outside. I never had an issue arise from any of the staff members here. My mothers long time friend also stayed here and I often visited and she was well taken care of. "

"I would not rate this facility highly BUT also not low. It was average. The staff (at least the members I came into contact with) were wonderful. The resident I knew (my grandfather) liked the facility as much as a facility of this sort can be liked (FYI: he wanted to return to his home and live independently). He enjoyed his roommate, surprisingly. He had very few complaints and that is saying something coming from him, you will just have to trust me on that point. He had little to say about the food, but had a great deal to say about the staff (as indicated above). He knew and referred to several employees when I visited or when other family members visited him. From what I could tell, the facility was well-maintained and clean. It could have been brighter and cheerier, but that, of course, is a bit subjective (and you do not what to appear to be fake and trying too hard). "

"Spectrum Health is a smaller center, which is what I like. It's more personal so the care is exceptional, and it's very clean. I'm out of state so it was even more important to find a location for mom that would best fit her needs. I was there when she was served food and it was very, very good. She's in a semi-private room, but it's so large that even with a dividing wall between her and the next resident, it's very spacious. You feel like you have your own room and the bathroom is very spacious also. There's plenty of storage for clothes or other items of comfort. The staff has been professional and caring. So, it's worth every penny."

"Christian Rest Home Assoc would not take my dad. I would have put him there if they were to take him. They said he requires too much care. They have memory care in full, but they would not take him because he requires too much care. The tour was good. But they have no rooms with single occupancy. All they had were shared rooms. I don't like the idea of shared rooms. The staff who accommodated me were very pleasant. I know they had bingo and crafts, but I didn't see that much going on. But I know they have these activities."
