I moved into the MediLodge of Grand Rapids. They do an excellent job. Their tenants are very good. The food is very good. The staff members are attentive. They go away and come back when I say they're supposed to. Everything is good. Everything is comfortable in the room. I like looking out the window, and there's a turkey outside. I don't know of anything negative that I've heard anywhere. They have bingo and some other things going on down there. All senior living facilities are a little expensive, but MediLodge of Grand Rapids is fairly good compared to some other ones. It is a little cheaper. I like the fact that it's in a setting where there's a lot of trees around, and wild animals, so it's kind of good.

I was a former resident of MediLodge of Grand Rapids. The staff brings their pets and there are usually dogs roaming around to be tethered. The activities are fairly good. One day before we left, they had an outing to see The Nutcracker, which was neat. The meals were never on time. And it usually got there cold. And one Sunday morning, we had burnt toast and burnt bacon. That was breakfast. That was a low point. The staff was always bickering among themselves and scheduling visits to other facilities for other jobs, which kind of put you off after a while.

I had a tour and the young lady in the admissions role is very knowledgeable, but very honest, she is very honest and upfront and able to answer all my questions without hesitation. All the staff while on my tour was full of smiles and kind. Very nice community with attentive staff throughout.

We toured for my aunt. She's a strong Catholic and having a chapel that she can go in and sit down and pray as well as having mass on Sunday is great. She also like the rooms, the different sizes, and the ability to have a room with a shower was nice too. She did not have to go down to a communal shower. She also liked the gardens. And the people seemed very friendly, too. The library was very interesting for her as well. We found a lot of things good. The staff was very businesslike and very friendly. The place is very nice.

I visited here; they could use some updating. The staff was friendly, very helpful, and had lots of knowledge. It is smaller, and the bathroom facility had no shower. You had to go down to a big, shared shower room that was definitely in need of an update. The dining area look nice, but we weren't there during the meal. I saw the director of activities, but there weren't any going on at the time that I was there. We were there at 10 a.m. They have outdoor courtyards and shuffleboard. They do allow some small pets, apparently.

I am not happy about what happened to my mother there. She died after a stroke which was caused by another resident with dementia, who violently yanked out her walker from under her, and she fell and had a stroke. When I saw her in the hospital, she had one broken arm from a previous fall, and her other arm bruised and purple from her hand to the elbow, and the top of her shoulder bruised. It looked like someone violently grabbed her arm, and hit her on the shoulder, and then yanked out her walker, causing the fall and fatal stroke. She could not function properly after the stroke, but could respond, and talk but in like a 'different language'. Then they took her and placed her in "HOSPICE" at Pilgrim Manor but NO VISITS WERE ALLOWED FOR 1 WEEK!!! she is dying and no visitor allowed. Many calls were made by members of my family in an attempt to see my mom before she died, and no one was allowed, not until after 7 days! Even though Hospice was supposed to allow visits according to their safety guidelines for people who are dying!!! My mother was left abandoned and neglected, alone in a "hospice room," set up for visitors! With a table with snacks and chairs se t up for visitors, with no visitors allowed. BY THE TIME THEY ALLOWED THE FIRST VISIT 1 WEEK LATER SHE WAS ALREADY COMATOSE. When she was at the hospital, she was able to respond, could recognize you and talk with you, and wanted visits so bad, as she know she was dying. After being in Pilgrim Manor horrible "Hospice" for one week, she had a new wound caked with dried blood on the side of her head, and newly bruised and purple hand, as if someone had grabbed her hand and hit her on the head! I was able to pray over her, and love her one last time, and she died later that night, but could never speak up for herself, who had done this? Pilgrim Manor is like a horror house and their Hospice is no better. It was horrible to see my mother broken, beaten, and damaged after her unendurable stay of 6-1/2 months!! When she went in she looked like a healthy and vigorous 86 year old, she had Alzheimer's, but able to walk and talk, and loved visitors which she was deprived of having! When she left she looked like a broken, wounded and traumatized little bird: one arm broken and in a cast (which injury they never reported), and her other arm terribly bruised, and her in a ruined condition. She looked more like cadaver than a human being. DO NOT send your loved ones there, you do NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPPENS BEHIND CLOSED DOORS!

My aunt has been at Pilgrim Manor for about 4 years. We are very pleased with Pilgrim Manor and find it to be clean, pleasant, and caring. Would recommend it definitely.

Overall, we had one very bad experience at Pilgrim Manor. Some of the staff members were very caring and very respectful, but others were very cruel and very disrespectful to the patients. My mom has a severe traumatic brain injury, so she is not all there and almost like a patient with Alzheimer’s. At times, she can be very irritating, but just because someone is irritating doesn’t mean you get to treat them with disrespect. We had an incident where one of the nurses screamed at her and made my mother cry. There were some very loving staff members, but there were some very terrible staff members, and I was happy to get my mother out of there. She was very unhappy. The only reason I’m giving them a 2 instead of a 4 is because of that one nurse who screamed at my mom. I filed a complaint within the company, and it was handled internally.

Pilgrim Manor has become my mother's home. She is 101 years old and has lived there for 7 years since suffering the effects of a stroke. Her daily needs are met by a caring and knowledgeable staff, from the dining people to the nurses and above, by the staff admin team. My mother's first choice is not to be in a nursing home; her only feasible option due to her health condition was to be in a skilled-nursing facility. This was the second nursing home my mother lived in and I hope and pray she will spend her days guided and protected by these caring people at Pilgrim Manor. Pilgrim Manor is #1 in my book.

He did not get the attention he deserved at Pilgrim Manor. The nurses did not answer the bell when he needed help. The furniture and room were ready to fall apart; the food was not good.

I visited this facility while looking for a potential place for my mother to live. I observed a clean, spacious environment, a pleasant dining area and nutritious meals, and an effort to respect the independence and vitality of the residents. I saw plenty of amiable residents who were enjoying each other, and they all appeared to be comfortable in their environment. I would consider this facility as a possible placement for my mother.
