Nursing Home Communities in Schaumburg, IL

"In general, I think that this is a beautiful facility, obviously upscale, but in extremely good taste. There is a library and a little shopping area with candy and jewelry. There is a very nice dining area. The lobby is spacious and comfortable. The receptionist is friendly and helpful. The one draw back is the parking in the back of the building, which is often full and it is hard to find parking on the street. This is definately an urban setting. Many of the patients are Holocaust survivors. The staff are very helpful and will work with the patient and the family if there are financial or other problems. The facility offers an array of activities -- opera programs, ice cream socials, current events, etc. The facility also provides religious programming and services for the mainly Jewish population. There are individual apartments where residents can live in an independent living situation. There is also continued care and nursing home facility on other floors. On the top floor is a lovely activity room with glass windows. Sometimes there is a pianist who plays music. Patients can go up and get an icecream cone or can go out on the roof patio when the weather is nice. I would highly recommend this facility. The patients that I talked to seemed happy because there are many activities that are offered. "

"Jennings Terrace is an older building, but my parents are happy there. The staff members seem good and responsive. When my parents call for help, they come rather quickly, and there's also good communication among the staff with family members about what's going on. They like the food and the church, my mom had her nails painted, and they have physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy."

"We visited several facilities in the area, looking for the right place for our parents, age 94 and 98. They had lived in their home for 56 years, but it had 4 flights of stairs and was becoming more and more dangerous for them. We were impressed by the compassionate and friendly staff and the engaging and friendly residents as well as by the facility itself. While in their home, Dad had gone to daily Mass until he could no longer drive. He missed that. The chapel in Franciscan Village made it possible for him to renew that daily joy. Because a larger unit was not available when we wanted to move, the Administration at FV offered a smaller unit until the larger one would be available. Further, Franciscan Village has 3 levels of care available--independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing. As it turned out, Dad had a stroke in early March and was moved to Mother Theresa skilled nursing facility. Mom was able to walk to visit him whenever she wanted. It was a blessing. And when he passed a month after his stroke, residents and staff reached out to Mom in any number of ways to help her navigate this tsunami. We're VERY grateful that we found Franciscan Village and moved Mom and Dad when we did. And we're VERY grateful that Franciscan Village is the caring, compassionate place we believed it to be. "

"The Village at Victory Lakes is a very nice and clean place and looks like a resort. I like everything about the place except that they don't have Spanish-speaking residents, so my aunt is not able to socialize. The only two people that speak Spanish were CNAs, and they can't be with her all the time. They do ceramics, bingo, singing, movies, and outings. They do activities outside their grounds, and my aunt will be watching out the window in her bedroom. The staff is very good. Everyone says the food is good. They have an exercise area, fitness classes, and music. It's a big place. They serve food and everything is very organized. The dining area is like a restaurant. It's a very expensive facility though. From their rehab, she went into respite there, and she's now in a studio. The only problem I have is for her to mingle with other people and socialize."

"My relative was in rehab at Briarwood Healthcare Center. The staff was good, but it was more institutionalized compared to others. The food was very good. I didn't pick that place for memory care because it was very cold and had a hospital or an institutional feeling. It was fine for rehab, but it's like being in a hospital room when you're in memory care."

"My father was recently transferred to this facility from another facility. Lexington House is very nice, but not quite as nice as the other facility. Lexington House is very clean, and the staff are very friendly. In the couple of days that my father has been there, I have met several of the staff, including two of the aids that take care of him regularly, the day aid, and the evening aid. As I said, they are very nice, and my only criticism is that it sometimes takes a while for them to come when he presses the call button. The rooms are also quite a bit smalled than they were at the first facility he was in, and it is difficult for him to move his wheelchair around. Apart from those issues, I am very pleased with Lexington Health. They do not have the beautiful atrium or the artwork that the first facility had, but the staff are good with him, and they act caring toward him, and there are many activities that he can participate in with other residents. Another thing that I am pleased with is that they made a great effort to find him a roommate that he could get along with very well. "

" This is a very nice care center with good aesthetics and great staff. There are two enclosed outdoor areas for use by residents and family members that have shade trees, seasonal plantings, and patio sitting areas. These are not large enough to take a long walk, but they are very pleasant and a great place for a short stroll or to sit and visit. It is in a fairly quite residential setting, set apart from and behind the Manorcare nursing home building. There are common areas spacious enough for comfortable visiting located throughout the building, both in the common hallway and in each of four "household" areas. The rooms are almost all private, with only a couple that can be shared; they are fairly large for this type of facility and all have good windows with usually some green space as part of the view. Each room has a spacious closet. The staff are wonderful with above-average tenure; many have been there well over ten years and provide kind, consistent, and respectful care. The food is above-average to very good; it is prepared on-site and served restaurant style, meaning it is plated for the residents in the dining room area and individually served. It always appears appetizing and is overseen by a professional dietary staff. Tasty and appropriate snacks are provided in addition to three main meals. This is a private pay setting so the cost is unfortunately out of reach for some; however, it is more cost controlled than some similar settings with no extra ala-carte add-ons for care charges. "

"I would recommend Rosewood Care Center of Inverness. I find the facility to be very well taken care of. The people are very caring. It has been a good place for my friend. "

"The Pearl of Rolling Meadows is under construction as they're redoing it. The staff is pleasant. My mom moved into their memory care unit. The food is good. My mom's room is clean and homey. She has full-time, 24-hour nursing care, and she has a roommate which is good, so she'll have company. They have a gym, physical therapy, a band that comes in to play music, and memory games. They have a lot of activities. The layout of the place is good. They accept Medicaid which a lot of people need."

"This facility provides both short term rehab and long term care. It could be described as a "typical" suburban Manorcare facility, as it provides a fairly typical product for this corporate chain. It is situated not far from the hospital on a fairly busy street in a safe area. There is limited available outdoor space though it is possible to go for a walk fairly easily into the adjacent residential neighborhood where there are well maintained sidewalks. The common areas are clean and nicely decorated, though since this is a larger building the common sitting areas can often be "full" so that family visiting is most often done in the resident's room. The rooms are of average size and the furnishings and aesthetics are generally well maintained. The food is not exciting but is palatable and not bad. Staffing is adequate and provides professional, kind and appropriate care, though at times there is waiting for assistance and it might seem like not enough staff to meet all resident needs, at least not all at once. "

"When my grandmother got older we all decided to move her into Abbington rehabilitation & nursing center. When we first went to see the units we were very surprised to see how large they were. The second thing we noticed was how nice the main floor and activity center was. I feel like grandma will be well cared for and at home here. When we come to visit there is always something to do and the kids don't feel left out. The level of care they provide is exceptional and we really feel like they are doing the best job of taking care of our grandma. The house keeping staff is professional and friendly and my grandma's unit is always clean and fresh when we come to visit. Since grandma has stopped driving the group outings and scheduled transportation still allows her to be active. The food is not as good as I would like, but isn't the worst I have had. Every staff member we have met there has been professional and is always smiling. I would recommend Abbington to anyone who asked "where can we find quality care for our aging relatives". "

"I can't say enough how wonderful the staff is at Alden Poplar Creek. Mom tells me everything that goes on and she only has great things to say. They know her and care about her like family do. I looked at a lot of places before deciding on Poplar Creek, many of them looked prettier, but there's no smell and you can tell that the residents there are happy the minute you walk in. The nurses keep us well informed and if there's ever a concern it's very easy to get in touch with the administrator or head nurse, even on the weekends. So glad we found this place. "

"The Moorings is very nice and has independent living, assisted care, and nursing facility. I've eaten in the dining room, and I visited several rooms there. They have an exercise room, a pool, and a large movie room in the assisted living. The staff is very professional. It's bright, cheery, clean, and the records appear to be well kept. They have musical programs."

"My mother went to the Moorings 3 times for rehab out of Hosp. first was such a relief as opposed to other scary cold facilities,seemed higher end all around,no complaints about anything.2nd visit,staff were more deceptive,offended by normal questions,standoffish,I'm not a hot shot causing waves.Constantly went through her room & moved & relocated her things.Some really head strong nurses aids.Became unpleasant.3rd tie breaker stay same as second,charm of the first stay was erased,placed on lower level in room with a very old resident who didn't move for 2 days & died before us.Residents family were put off by my mother being there at that time,no choice.maybe it's better now ? they say "at any given time it changes" not to generalize. Never going back,Physical therapy was above average & the redeeming factor here,the rest was like any other. "
