Nursing Home Communities in Long Grove, IL

"St. Joseph Village of Chicago was very homey and very clean. The people there were generally friendly. It's very homey and meets our needs. It's older, but it's clean and appears to be well-maintained. It's a nice facility. The rooms are not new, but very nice. They were rehabbing some of the rooms also. We got a complete tour. The location for us is good. The security is very lax. They have a camera and a receptionist, and that's about it. They had a lot of activities that they were working on. The person who gave us the tour was wonderful."

"In general, I think that this is a beautiful facility, obviously upscale, but in extremely good taste. There is a library and a little shopping area with candy and jewelry. There is a very nice dining area. The lobby is spacious and comfortable. The receptionist is friendly and helpful. The one draw back is the parking in the back of the building, which is often full and it is hard to find parking on the street. This is definately an urban setting. Many of the patients are Holocaust survivors. The staff are very helpful and will work with the patient and the family if there are financial or other problems. The facility offers an array of activities -- opera programs, ice cream socials, current events, etc. The facility also provides religious programming and services for the mainly Jewish population. There are individual apartments where residents can live in an independent living situation. There is also continued care and nursing home facility on other floors. On the top floor is a lovely activity room with glass windows. Sometimes there is a pianist who plays music. Patients can go up and get an icecream cone or can go out on the roof patio when the weather is nice. I would highly recommend this facility. The patients that I talked to seemed happy because there are many activities that are offered. "

"My mom is in Cantata Adult Life Services. Overall, we are satisfied with them. There were some concerns, but when I told them what we expected, they took it very well. They have assisted living also. We originally went to look at an apartment, but in the interim, she had a stroke, so she is in the skilled care part. She is in rehab because she has all kinds of issues, and they are one of the few places that do that rehab. They are very compassionate. It is a very small facility, which is nice. They have a good staff-to-patient ratio. We've had several meals there. My mom does not like the food, but my sister and I think it is perfectly fine. My mother is used to her own cooking. They have a tremendous rehab staff. They are excellent. "

"I went to GreenFields in Geneva for a tour over two years ago. It was very clean and the apartments were very nice, but it was not really a place that I would be interested in because the hallways reminded me too much of a hotel. The staff was very good, very personable, and answered all of my questions. We talked to someone about the activities too. I remember that they had a beauty shop for the hair, and a big laundry room. I didn't really find anything negative there. We also had a meal there, and the food was really good, very well-prepared, and the dining room was also very nice."

"Alden Long Grove Rehab & Health Care Center is an older place but it is clean and organized. It seems they attend to their residents respectfully. My sister is pleased with the services she's receiving at this point. She does not really participate in any of the activities because she's wheelchair-bound and she's doing physical therapy, but activities are available for all the residents. She's very pleased with the dining area and the food. "

"Both short-term rehab and long term care are provided at the Arlington of Long Grove. The building is conveniently located in a safe area somewhat in between a residential neighborhood and a business district. It is nice that the parking lot is very large so that a space is always available. The facility provides enclosed, secure outdoor space for residents and visitors that is not huge but is adequate, comfortable, and well maintained. There are nice and spacious common areas in some parts of the facility, such as the lobby and the dining areas, but most space is designated and visiting primarily seems to occur in resident rooms. Rooms are of above average size for the most part, so visiting in the rooms is comfortable. Room size also allows residents to bring in small personal items to make things more home-like. Rooms have variable amounts of natural light depending on location. The food is average and residents typically do not rave about it but also do not overly complain. Staffing is good and most often sufficient to meet resident's needs, providing kind and compassionate care. "

"There were activities to appease the residents when I was volunteering there. Besides the snacks "bar," there was a family day for the 4th of July where they cooked hot dogs and burgers for the visitors. The staff seemed interested enough to appease people's demands, reading the news to them some weekend mornings. It was clean but the place smelled stale and unpleasant in some areas. Of course, that could be attributed to the health problems of the residents. Overall, it was a decent nursing home. "

"Symphony of Buffalo Grove was a nice place. It was a lot friendlier and there's a lot more to do over there. I had to go there for rehab one time, and I was there for about four weeks. It seemed nicer, the staff wasn't the greatest, but they were alright. They were pretty good to me, more friendly and they helped me a lot more. The food was pretty good. They would come by and say if we wanted ice cream. We're always able to go downstairs and have popcorn from the popcorn machine if we wanted it. They even had a little area where you could get coffee if you wanted to or they had pastries and stuff. It was really nice and really friendly over there. They had activities but I didn't have the opportunity to use them. I know they have bingo and sometimes they were in the theater. They have certain movies and stuff they would show. It seemed like there were more activities there. I like the location, it was nice. I was close to the one hospital I was going to and I only lived a block down the road at one time, so I was close to where I lived too. There is shopping right there and right across the street was a mall."

"My mother was a resident just short of 3 years at Lexington. In that timeframe Lisa Hansen, Victoria, Katie, Dottie, Conrad, Alecia,Ambreen,Lucy,Debbie the receptionist,Tony, and most of all mom's caregiver Daisy, and a few others I'm sure I'm forgetting right now, were incredible. Everyone was kind and attentive always. Everyone treated mom with respect. Everyone was helpful to me. I could tell you so many things that would change a negative outlook on nursing homes when it comes to my experience at Lexington. I would choose them again in a heartbeat."

"The entire atmosphere at Brentwood was very welcoming. The staff was very warm and very polite, and they were concerned of the services given. They have the heart for serving the seniors, and you can tell that the quality of services they were giving was wonderful. They had one-on-one activities that cater to every skill that they were trying to put back to the seniors. They were trying to make them busy, they were not left behind, and they were busy in their own time frame. They were not rushed but catered according to their needs. It has a spacious ground where they can go out, have some fresh air, or be pushed around, and there was a lounging chair where they can sit. They have a little library, an activity room, and a dining room. The activity room was great for a lot of activities because not everyone there had the same likes and dislikes, so they were catered according to what they have in mind. They can read books or do puzzles, crafts, or make flower arrangements. I am impressed actually. I was able to go to their kitchen because I asked for water, but is was done intentionally because I wanted to see inside the kitchen. Oh my goodness! It was organized and very clean. It was beautiful, and the people there were calm as if they had nothing to hide at all. "

"My mom is now at Warren Barr Lincolnshire. It was the closest proximity between my home and the hospital that she was visiting. It's clean and very professional. It offers transportation to and from the facility to her doctor's appointments. The nurses are very courteous when we went to see it. The front desk staff are very nice. They're courteous and professional. They call me and give me updates. They're very on top of things. They're great. With food, my mom doesn't care for everything, but she's also a little picky. I don't know much about their activities because my mom is legally blind, so she can't participate in those things. But from what I've read, they offer wonderful activities for seniors there. They've got a beautiful atrium. They've got a nice little backyard. They take her outside in the wheelchair to get some fresh air. They even offer a hair salon, which is very nice. Medicare pays for her stay there."

"I want to give a shout-out to all the great staff! Nurses- dani, he is great! Always gives meds on time. He is always nice and smiling. Makes me laugh and is so kind! He really cares about the residents! Diane, sweet and kind! Always helpful! Patty, works part time but when she's here she's nice and kind! Reemo, nice and always running around at night! CNA's - Maggie, so young but so good at what she does! So sweet and kind! Love her! Arturo, always making us smile and laugh! Good at what he does! Nancy- gets to work right away and works hard! Kitchen- Tashari- she is head cook and always asks us how things are and listens to our needs! Latrel- she always says hello and is so good and kind! Love her! Gwen- always goes above and beyond her duties! Dave the new cook is great! The food always tastes good when he cooks! Housekeeping - Shannon, such a kind and helpful person! Will always help with whatever he can! Goes above and beyond his duties! Activities- Chrissy, so nice and kind! Jennifer- so sweet and kind! Always smiling and nice! Well i thinl that's everyone. But all staff is great!!"

"Thrive of Lake County helps in strengthening my legs and my balance. They're very good with their OT and PT. It's very clean. My only biggest complaint is their food. They need to work on that. The staff has been very good. My living room is just the right size. There is a bed, and I have room on each side. The shower area is really big. Most of the food is very good. It should be warmer when you get it, though. It's a fair value."

"Just completed a 2-week rehab stay at facility and was well pleased.Room was clean and neat and was thoroughly cleaned daily..Therapy provided was excellent and helped me get back on my feet.I found the staff caring,concerned and attentive."
