Rogers is home to more than 70,000 residents, and seniors make up about a tenth of the population. This city offers access to affordable health care, with costs for hospitalizations, doctor’s office visits and dental care coming in about 15% below the national median. Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas is located within the city proper, and there are over a dozen more major medical facilities within driving distance. For older adults who need intensive care after hospitalization, the city has numerous nursing homes. The Genworth 2021 Cost of Care Survey shows that local nursing home rates average $6,083 for semiprivate accommodations, which is considerably cheaper than the national average.
Nursing home care is ideal for older adults who need around-the-clock monitoring and medical care. These facilities are staffed with licensed health care professionals who administer services, such as physical therapy, medication administration and wound care. Residents have access to daily meals and snacks, as well as therapeutic recreational activities. For older adults who don’t need this high level of care, assisted living or home health care may be cost-effective alternatives.
In this guide, readers can find more information on nursing home costs, as well as a list of free resources for seniors.

We had to move my husband to Innisfree Health & Rehab, and he seems to be pretty stable right now. The staff is very nice and I can tell they are knowledgeable about what they need to do. Although sometimes, it takes them a lot longer to have somebody help you with things you need help with. The double room he has is probably larger compared to the ones I saw in other places. They had redone part of the building and they’re in the process of finishing that up. And they said the rooms are even larger, which would be good. I tried the food and I was satisfied. For now, my husband is eating in his room because of these changes. So hopefully when they get over to the other side, they’ll have room for them to go out to eat. They give out a newsletter each day to let you know what they have for lunch, and then there’s an alternative. You get to choose your meal that way. Most of the time, the food is good and has a decent variety.

My elderly grandmother was moved into this facility on a Saturday and we had her out by the following Tuesday, as fast as we could. Imagine the oldest motel you’ve ever been in and you might get close to this facility. Not only is the facility old and run down the food is equally as bad as was the attentiveness of the staff. Dinner menu, hamburger, grilled cheese and a hot dog. They did admit that they do not have a dietician on staff. As for attentiveness, my grandmother waited 3 hours one night for a nurse to respond and an hour the next all while sitting in her own waste. Another incident that was unbelievable was when her O2 was dropping into the low 70’s the LPN came in and noticed the oxygen tube fell off the oxygenator and said "oh, there’s the problem." Unbelievable that the equipment and hose was in such poor repair. Old, poor nutrition and poor overall care. Not a good place. I wouldn’t take my dog here. We chose this place sight unseen due to the 5 star CMS rating, but please don’t be fooled. Stay away!

My dad is in rehab at Promenade Health and Rehab. They could improve by being more organized. My mother and I just kept saying the right and left hand did not know what was going on. We have been in the hospital four nights, and they asked my mother to stay over the first night there. She was exhausted. I do notknow if they did not know or was not informed of his needs or what, but it was not a pleasant experience.
Promenade have had 81 Covid cases between staff and patients. That spoke a lot to me about cleanliness and organization. Some of the staff were very good and some of them were not. I was more concerned that he was not clean. It is not a good place for our needs. I just would say it was understaffed. I feel like it needed more staff. They had one nurse running two hallways. My dad is in a supposedly two week quarantine, but they would beg us to come down there and sit with him.
I thought he was supposed to go to a skilled nursing facility, but it did not feel like that is what he got. It looked beautiful on the outside and very elegant. They had gone out to Walmart and bought plastic drawers and other stuff. There is lack of organization. The meals were not always served on time and sometimes they would put it down and dad was asleep. He would not know that it was lunch time.

My mother is living at Apple Creek Health and Rehab, Llc. She thinks the rooms are too small. They are treating her very nicely and feeding her well. I have no complaints about it. If I had my way, I would probably leave my mom here. They have private rooms. The staff has been great. My mom says they take wonderful care of her. They’ve done well at keeping us informed of everything that’s happening there, with COVID and giving my mother new medications and stuff. They have two courtyards that are divided in the middle. There’s a front section that has a courtyard, and then there’s a back section that has a courtyard. I think the front section is for rehabilitation and short-term care, and the back section is for long-term care. They do take my mother out and let her get fresh air when she allows them to. My mom says the food is really good. The facility is very nice and clean. They are like getting into Fort Knox if you don’t have permission to enter, so they are working on the residents’ safety.

I have seen the exceptional care that EVERYONE provides to these residents; from the Nursing Supervisors to the housekeepers. They are a team that has one purpose and that is to provide top care to those who enter their doors. The facility is older but you can not judge a book by the cover… they are better than many of the newer facilities I have been in in the past. When I see my friend, who lives at Windcrest Health & Rehab, she is always smiling and knows she is safe and feels at home. She loves the staff and other residents.

When my husband pushes the button for a nurse, it sometimes is not answered at all. It seems to be disorganized. The food seems to be pretty good. My husband’s room is kind of like a typical hospital room. It’s private and has a TV, so he’s set. He can decorate it in any way he wants which is important to him since he’s surrounded by familiar things. He’s doing physical, occupational, and speech therapy.

Financial Assistance for Nursing Home Care in Rogers, AR
Many seniors and their families use some form of financial assistance to help them pay for nursing care. The main options available are Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans benefits. These programs can be complicated, especially when it comes to benefit terms. Below, we give a brief overview of how these programs may be used towards paying for skilled nursing care.
- Medicare: Medicare will typically cover all skilled nursing costs for the first 20 days of one’s stay in a nursing home and a portion of the costs until day 100. After 100 days in a skilled nursing facility, Medicare will not cover any part of the cost of the stay. While this is adequate when short-term care is needed, those in need of long-term care will need to either pay out-of-pocket or use another source of financial assistance.
- Medicaid: Medicaid covers most of the costs of living in a skilled nursing facility for those who qualify. Care, room, and board are covered with no time limit, but residents may be charged for extras like specially prepared food or cosmetic services. Medicaid eligibility standards are strict and complex, so not all seniors are eligible for Medicaid benefits.
- Veterans Benefits: Veterans receiving a VA pension may also be eligible for the Aid and Attendance benefit administered by the VA. Aid and Attendance is a monthly allowance that beneficiaries may use to pay for their long-term care, including skilled nursing care.
If these options aren’t available to you, check if your loved one has long-term care insurance or contact your Area Agency on Aging to ask about any local financial assistance programs for seniors.
Free Resources for Seniors in Rogers, AR
Seniors in Rogers have several options for managing long-term care needs in and outside of nursing homes. The following table highlights resources that may enable older adults to reduce monthly care expenses by delaying, shortening the duration of or avoiding nursing home placement. It also has resources to help seniors navigate the system when placement is necessary.
The Area Agency on Aging is a private nonprofit organization that administers a range of programs to help seniors age safely at home. It provides low-cost in-home care, medical supplies and personal emergency response systems. The agency also provides care coordination services to help seniors connect with community-based programs.
The local Meals on Wheels program provides home-delivered meals to older adults who can’t obtain food on their own due to injury, illness or age. Each meal contains an entree, two side dishes, a dessert and a beverage, and meals for those following low-sugar, low-sodium or low-cholesterol diets are available.
United Way of Northwest Arkansas has information specialists who listen to seniors’ needs and help them connect with community-based programs. Through this organization, seniors can obtain durable medical equipment loans, prescription drug assistance and in-home care and chore services.
The Benton County Veterans Services office helps veterans and their qualified family members identify programs and file claims for benefits that can help cover home health care and nursing home care. The office can also help individuals determine whether they qualify for placement in one of Arkansas’s two veterans’ homes.
Legal Aid of Arkansas is a nonprofit organization that provides free legal services for seniors. Older adults can contact the agency for help dealing with problems related to nursing home care, including unfair billing procedures and excessive or inadequate care. The office also helps seniors apply for public benefits.
