N Y Congregational Nursing Center is a rehab community for those that need it, but my aunt didn't need it. She was just there taking up space in a bed temporarily until she found a place that she can go to. Her room there was spacious and clean. The staff was good and was doing exactly what the staff was supposed to do. My aunt told me that hardly anyone is there during the night and that only one person watches the floor. They have activities and entertainment, and they also have celebrations like for Mother's Day and different holidays where they gather downstairs in the community area. It's a nice looking place and very up-to-date. They have sitting areas outside and downstair. I haven't eaten there but the food looks decent. I know that people who live there eat the food so it must not be bad. They give them different things and it looks good. I would rate the staff a five because I can see them working when I'm there. Like they feed the patients, they make sure they respond immediately when the patient calls them, and things like that. They're really OK. The only thing they could improve on is that they don't take the residents outside. They only take the residents down into the lobby when they have activities.

Right now, I'm in at New York Congregational Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. It's excellent. It's very clean. The rooms are immaculate. Downstairs, they have physical therapy rooms. They have a patio outside where we can go every day if you are physically able to, and they have a room where you go for meetings. There's a lot of activities every day. The staff members are good. They work hard. I have a buzzer next to me, and if I want to call somebody, I push the button, and someone comes. I could get to my wheelchair and go out of their station if I needed something. I like dinners and I love soup, but I don't like the lunches. Breakfast is OK. For lunch, they always have either chicken or fish with rice or mashed potatoes, and I don't really like it, so I kind of skipped lunch. I can go without eating lunch. The staff are on top of everything, and they're always working. Every patient has a TV by his bed, and I have physical therapy every day of the week.

I am a current resident of the New York Congregational Nursing Center. It fits my needs highly and it is comfortable. The food of course is lousy so don't come here for the cuisine. It's clean, and it seems to be attentive. If you voice a particular health care need, at least in my experience, they tend to get on it sooner rather than later. The staff is adequate and they're not rude. They will lose your clothes, though. I've had several things lost since I've been here, and they are attempting to locate them or write me a check for what they have lost. They have this weird system that your stuff has to go down to the basement to get labels put in. Then it's sent out again to get washed and then sent back. It doesn't seem to be all together yet. They have recreational people, and they have a gym and a courtyard. I'm younger than most of the nursing home patients and I am more physically able to take care of myself than most of the nursing home patients. There are many activities for them like dominoes and I take part in dominoes and some other things. But basically, I just keep to myself. Whereas they provide very nice activities for the older residents. Technically, it cost each person eight thousand dollars a day to stay here. As far as I'm concerned, you have to give a lot more programs and a lot better food for it to be worth eight thousand dollars a day. And that's the way nursing homes charge; that's what the state is willing to pay. I don't think it's worth it. However, professionally, I'm glad I'm here. It's a catch 22. They keep the place clean and there are activities every day.

My mother went in to this facility after a fall for rehab on her legs/knees she came out worse both legs totally contracted. Unfortunately due to COVID-19 was not able to make visits only video calls. My mother was not happy at this place even though the staff/team did reach out when she first arrived and they tried to coordinate care it was not enough. There was no direct information given on the protocols there were many times the phone rung to no answer at the nurses station. The security desk was always pleasant and tried to assist best as possible. She came home with her hair not clean(what looked like dried blood from her forehead cut) a dark reddish brown sore on her foot and red bumps on her hip and butt and not able to stand this is not how she went in. She did have a couple of falls while sitting in her wheelchair and a nurse called to inform me with the information that was noted. Overall there were some things that worked and some things that fell short like her physical condition when she was released.

My mom was in N Y Congregational Nursing Center. It wasn't the best experience, and my mom wasn't pleased being there. It took them a little while to actually start her therapy. They kind of put her to the back of the facility because they said she needed too much. It wasn't a really good experience. She said they put her in like the last room, they weren't really checking on her, and they pretty much gave her just mashed potato. I believe they had a recreation area where the patients could sit and enjoy each other's company, but due to COVID that wasn't possible. The communication was horrible, they didn't notify me about anything, I had to call them and hound them down. I would leave messages and no one would get back to me. It was horrible.

Nursing facilities are pretty depressing places, so I was never expecting to see something grand and amazing. However, this place - especially in comparison to other places in the Brooklyn/Queens area - is pretty nice. I felt that there could have been a few more activities and enrichment sorts of things, but other than that it was a nice place. There were lots of animals (two aquariums, a retired racing greyhound, and two aviaries of zebra society finches), which my grandmother really enjoyed (she loved animals). I wish she could have been on less medication...I feel like the amount that she was on only made her sicker and thusly increased the need for more meds, but that is more of an issue of modern medicine than an issue relating to the actual facility.
