I had asked friends and neighbors to reach out to the networks of their recommendations and experiences at senior living homes in this area, and multiple people recommended Brightview Paramus. I had taken a look and really liked it. I brought my father there for lunch and a tour, and he had a positive reaction to it. So far, I've been really happy with their support. He is now there for assisted living, and he is in a studio. That's the only one that they had available at that time. We were hoping for a 1-bedroom apartment, but my dad just very much needed to not be so stationary at home, and I just really wanted him to be in a very safe environment where he could socialize. The food is amazing versus other food that we had tried at one other place. I had narrowed it down to about two, and I just thought this place was more outstanding in terms of everything. The food just tasted fresh, and the facility itself didn't feel like some of these other places where it's dark and just didn't feel as welcoming. Brightview, on the other hand, is very bright. I also took a look at their memory care, because I'm sure my dad will eventually need to move there, and it just felt very warm. It was just lively, whereas other memory care areas were just very quiet and almost institutional. I know most places have a little movie theater, and they have that and various activities. What I thought was pretty amazing was that they have a social hour or happy hour, and a men's club. It also just seems brighter and airier. I sampled their food, and it was amazing. It was really good in that everything was fresh-tasting. For instance, I had a parsnip soup, and I can actually taste the parsnips, which is not something that you would find in a canned item. When I had tried a different meal elsewhere, you could tell they used frozen foods and canned vegetables, and that's not the case here. My father has only been there for about three weeks, and from what I understand, they already had him do chair yoga, and that's not something he had ever done before. They're getting him moving, getting him engaged, meeting other people, getting physical therapy, cognitive therapy, or speech therapy. They'll even send him a reminder or stop by to remind him about the various activities happening, because, as I understand, he likes to watch movies and just walk around. I really like all the directors, too. They're very helpful, and I can always call them. They always say I can call them any time of the day, any day of the week. I have called several times to sort of check in to see how things are going, and they're able to give me a good report. I think they're going to come out with it soon, or so they say, but I wish they had an online portal. It would be nice to sort of be able to check in that way and have a site in one place to view invoices or reports. I know some other places have that. That wasn't the deal breaker, but I would love it more if they had that. They are more expensive than others, but I really appreciate that it's all-inclusive, and they don't really have add-ons.

I'm happy with Bright View. My husband has no idea where he is and what's going on, but I'm happy with it. The food that I've seen looks good, but he's on a very limited diet. He's on a soft diet and the food that he eats, for what he needs, is very good. They get a lot of food and they bring him extra stuff if it looks like he's looking for food. I chose them because my husband has physical limitations and they were the only ones willing to work with that. There were a lot of places that I called that said he needed to be in a nursing home or skilled nursing setting, but Bright View took him because they knew they could work with him and they are working with him. Their visitation is still very limited and no visitors are allowed to go into the common areas where they have the activities. I'm not allowed at this point to see them because of Covid. I do know he's always out of his room. The only time he's in his room is for personal hygiene and when he's sleeping.

Brightview Paramus looked beautiful. The lobby was gorgeous and the landscaping outside was lovely. It was a little expensive for my dad, and I dont think it was a good fit for him. It was more for somebody who was more social and outgoing people. It reminded me of a hotel. They have a lot of games for the seniors to play, a lot of activities, and day trips.
