"Rosewood is an old manor, but I liked the rooms that they got to stay in, and it’s a nice place. The room available for my mom, however, was on the second floor, and the stairs were very steep. The dining room needs to be a little bit bigger. The people seemed to be crowded in, which we saw because they were eating when we were there. "

"We chose this facility because it is close to where I live. This facility sits in the woods; the location is very beautiful and picturesque. This is not a very large facility thus giving it a homey environment. My sister's room is very large, it has a double closet and she shares a bathroom with just one resident. My sister likes the food here, she says its excellent. The staffs are just wonderful. She helps her with medication, they take her to outings, bring her to the library because she doesn't drive and provide her with any other things she needs. Some recreational activities available in this facility include bingo games, watching TV together, taking residents to stores, inviting a podiatrist once a month and facilitating celebrations. This facility is doing everything I expect for my sister. She's younger than the other residents so she bonds more with the workers. This has been a very positive experience for her. "

"Windham Terrace was very nice, but we felt it was too expensive for us. We wouldn't be comfortable worrying if we would have enough money for the rent every month. But it was very nice and it had a cozy feeling about it. The people were sitting around in a lounge with a fireplace, while some residents were in the kitchen. The staff and rooms were very nice. If it had been much cheaper to live there, we probably would have done so. "

"Evergreen Place was very nice facility. You shared a bathroom in the apartments, and that's not desirable for me. The facility was fine, and the rooms are certainly spacious enough. It's not a new facility -- it's been there a while -- but they have done a very good job of keeping it up. They have the basic retirement activity room, and they do cards and take people around downtown Manchester, so it's very nice. "

"We went to see Hillsbrook Village at Allenstown, and it was quite nice. I think I saw their assisted living because we were on the second floor, and that's the assisted living. We also saw one room on the third floor, which was independent living, but it was only a studio apartment that I was not interested in. I like that they have a beauty salon, a cosmetologist, and a hairdresser. They also have different games that they play together, like Left Center Right and Cribbage. They go on tours, and they just have a lot of things that they do constantly. They just came back from Hampton Beach, and they also go into town on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you need a doctor's appointment or something like that, they can bring you there. 90% of it was positive. The only thing that I'm not used to is the very small rooms. They were not furnished at all, so it makes it hard to visualize what it would look like with my furniture in there. If I want to have someone come stay overnight, it's my apartment, so I can do that if I want to. They would include one meal a day for me. I just don't know which meal that would be or if I have a choice of meals. It's just one meal per day, so I'm assuming it would be the dinner meal, but I'm not sure. The person who gave the tour knew it quite well, so she was able to explain it quite well. She's the only one I met, and she's the salesperson for them. We were saying that we were very hungry by the time we were done, it was one o'clock, and the young lady said that we could try to eat there. They had a Reuben or a Monte Cristo sandwich out. Then they had a stuffed pepper and something else there. The food did not look bad at all, but we just decided we didn't want to eat. She said that if we want to, we can have lunch and it's on them. The cleanliness was perfect. I didn't see a speck of dirt or anything anywhere. It was extremely clean. There's just one thing that I'm kind of wary of, and that's the parking. We couldn't find a place to park unless we went way down to the other end of the building. It was just so cold and windy, and we didn't want to have to walk like a thousand feet in that terrible wind, so we parked right underneath the front of their building. It's not a place to park, that's for sure, but we had no other place to park. I did bring that up to the staff, and she says during the week, sometimes people have friends that come and visit. You're not assigned a specific parking spot, so you take whatever you can get, I guess."

"I really love Giving Tree Senior Living. It's not like a nursing home. They have the feel of an apartment when you walk in. Even on the memory care side, it's nice, updated, and very clean. So it was good. Also, they can go from memory care all the way to the end of life, which is kind of cool. My father-in-law could stay there for whatever, but financially we couldn't do it. The staff that I met was nice. They were having an activity in one of the activity rooms, which is cool. It feels like a living room-type setting, but it's an open area. There's singing and music going on. Another thing is, if the family doesn't want to eat in the dining room, they have a family room. They could seat eight people, and you can book it and bring your own food. They have a shop where you can order pizza. And some of the patients there can have beer. They can drink to make them feel at home if they're able to and the doctor says it's okay. But it's coming from their cafeteria, so it's very interesting. The memory care people have their own little door. They have shared units. For my father-in-law, the room he was going to get was a good decent size. Some people can do single rooms, and it's a nice size, too. They have small refrigerators in each room, which is cool. The place is very clean, especially in memory care, so I am very impressed. You could tell that it's a newer facility."

"My mother became a resident at Langdon Place six years ago, after needing to be on oxygen full time after a bout with pneumonia, She was able to have a single room with a large window over looking the parking lot where relatives arrive to visit. She enjoys this aspect of her room, as well as the private bathroom within it. The style of the whole building is very upscale, with a formal dining room, where once a week cocktail parties are held, as well as celebrations once a month for the residents born within it. There's a den/library that offers large screen viewing of movies, and a recently updated pool and whirlpool in. a southern exposure large area with sliding glass doors to let in the fresh air as the weather permits. Holidays are celebrated with special events and treats from the kitchen- with family members welcome to attend. An activities director plans outings to local places of interest, as well in 'in house' activities. On to the health overseeing that she has benefited from: without sharing private details of my mother's various conditions through out the past years, I can truly exclaim with great gusto, "God Bless the 2nd floor nurses!". I am sure her life has been saved more than once by the skilled care she has received. There have been lung issues, caught before getting more serious requiring hospitalization. There have been skin issues that are chronic, and somewhat the result of choices my mother continues to make. Still the tending to them with twice a day treatments is carried through with patience and diligence. I am in and out several times a week, and seen the kindness and genuine affection shown to my mother. She is still ambulatory with a walker to both carry a traveling oxygen canister, and offer balance support, when she chooses to leave her room. Housekeeping staff are in the details needed to keep her feeling well cared for, whether a full replacement canister is needed, or she's requesting her bed to be turned down. Langdon Place also offers room service dining for residents no longer interested in joining the dining room group. Time is marching on, as it inevitably does, and despite my mother's choice of less participation in group activities she is very comfortable and continually tended to through out her day., During my last stop in she was exclaiming about the banana cream pie, dessert that had arrived in her room on that evening's dinner tray! "

"We're keeping my dad at the Cornerstone at Hampton. He's familiar with everyone there, and we don't want to disrupt him from his home, and that's his home now. We've made the decision to just keep him there. He is at the Compass memory care unit. It's a brand new facility. It's in a style that's very homey, yet you're kind of a like in a hotel. It's beautiful, they have big day rooms, and they have an open kitchen for snacks that's like a little cafe if they want to grab something to eat there. They have a dining room in the assisted living where they can order their own food. For the memory care unit, they have a couple of choices for the patients. They may not always remember food items, so they tweak the different items for them and they get to choose, which is phenomenal. They have extracurricular activities that they do with them. It's fabulous because they keep them engaged. They had entertainers sometimes coming in, but not right now. The grounds are beautiful. It's a gorgeous facility. The staff is attentive. I did some research and thought they kept increasing the price, but they were well within the means of market price. In fact, they've actually done a little bit better than this other nursing home with a memory care unit that costs $11,000 a month. Cornerstone is below that and for what you get, it's definitely worth it, which is why we decided to keep my dad there."

"My Grandmother has been living in this facility for about 2 years now. She really loves it there, myself and my family were pleastly suprised at this. Like any family making the adjustment was as difficult for us as it was for her. There is alot she gave up when moving there such as her car, her home, alot of her belongings and her cat, I know how hard this was for her, but once she got settled in and aquainted with the other residents she began to like it alot. When she lived on her own we all worried about her social life, she didn't have so many friends that were able to regularly get together. She would often have family around but come to find out that often isn't enough. Since she has been living in the Assisted living place shes become more active, with trips through the facility to go shopping, or to the movies ect. she has also become somewhat of a social butterfly, towards the end of her staying at home she began to mess up our names mixing me up with my uncles (by name only) we called these all Nanaisms, now she remembers alot more including introducing me to her new friends by name and remembering their stories ect. Nana also plays bingo regularly at the home, she really enjoys it, everytime I go her friends all say hes a good luck charm I want to sit next to him, its truely a beautiful thing to see her interact like this. The staff there are very helpful with medications and adjustments as well as locating her, sometimes I get nervous if I cant reach her on her private line I'll call the desk and they always say shes around here somewhere I'll go find her and have her call you, she always does. The building is very clean and well organized with alot of community kitchens and places to sit, talk, and or do puzzles. They have pet fish and places for the residents to put flowers and pictures. the rooms are big enough, my nana was lucky enough to get a private room, but started in a double. They have their own tvs and often get together to watch sports, or movies. As I said my entire family was nervous about putting our Nana in a "home" but with medical concerns she needed a place with medical facilities close by (attatched building) and we have all been pleasantly supprised, including Nana. "

"This intimate community is privately run and very very attractive. Relatively new, it was built just ten years ago as an addition to Colonial Poplin, one of the most highly rated nursing homes. For someone who has a retiring nature or is just a bit social, and cares deeply about the graciousness of her/his environment, this is worth checking out. For the caregiver, the smaller scale make it much more manageable than a larger place. And the staff are fabulous. Not only are they caring, they know their stuff and keep a sharp eye out for their residents' well-being. They know their residents as individuals. They speak relatively little baby-talk to residents, a prevalent demeaning habit in some larger homes. Oh, and the two brothers who own it are very gracious too, and they go out of their way to ensure that the food is nicely done. My mom lived at Poplin Way and then Colonial Poplin for four years between 2002 and 2006. That was a while ago, but it' s still run by the two brothers. Their continued presence makes me thinks that Poplin still keeps to high standards. The only downside, the reason for four stars rather than five, is that the laundry regularly lost items (as is true at most homes), the person handling the accounts was not cut out for the job (they Must have someone else by now), and the doctor was a severe challenge (and has since moved on). "Upon driving up, I was astounded by the beautiful setting of Fox Den. It's on acerage--the owners live upstairs in the facility, also. There is a pond with a fountain that can be viewed from the front porch. The facility looks very homey on the outside. On the inside, the decor felt "dated" and dark to me and both the private rooms and efficiency apartments seemed small. The dining room was spacious, though, and as I was there at lunchtime the residents looked happy during mealtime. The staff was also very friendly and helpful during my visit, and the owner took time to say hello and explain the facilitie's amenities. "

"This seemed to be a nice nursing home with a home like atmosphere. The foyer was welcoming with plants, a water fall and old style furnishings. The staff went out of their way to extend curtesies to me. The rooms were clean. The bedroom furnishings were more homelike. Some of the residents families brought in dressers and photos from their homes. There were brightly colored blankets and some crocheted afghans as well that were very colorful. The rooms and the bathrooms were a little more spacious than others I have seen but not by much. The shower, tub room was fairly large, with a newer tub and two shower stalls. The activity department was in full swing when I was there, complete with a sing-a-long that the staff and residents were participating. They all seemed to be having a real good time. The food was well presented. "

"My father is getting great care here. The staff is very attentive, supportive, and helpful. The food is outstanding. The facility itself is showing age a little bit but still certainly comfortable and he is doing well there. "
