"Windham Terrace was very clean and it had a homey feel. They had both assisted living and memory care. They had a nice big cooking room where they could go and cook their own meals or the family could cook along with them. I only saw a small activity room and a library. They have a terrace, but I didn't go outside. The room was very nice and spacious. They have a kitchenette and everything is included. You don't have to pay a telephone bill, the internet, or cable TV, so that was a nice feature. The facility looked very nice and I liked that it's small. The person that runs it has been there for over 20 years, so that was good to know."

"I like that Wadleigh House is small, the location is good, and that I knew some of the people already. I had to comment on the food because they were advertising it, but apparently someone moved in because the food was much better than at the other place. They have music, exercise class, and games where they speak different languages. The staff is very knowledgeable. It is very clean. I am looking forward to going there. "

"I toured Evergreen Place. It's a small place, but it's very homey. The rooms were smaller than the other places. They are not competitive as far as I'm concerned with price, especially for a studio apartment. There's a coziness about it because they only have approximately 20 residents. There are some newer rooms, where they get together and do activities. The people working there were fine. There were residents that were making a puzzle, and there were residents that were doing some kind of artwork. They had things going on. The building looked new."

"Rosewood is an old manor, but I liked the rooms that they got to stay in, and it’s a nice place. The room available for my mom, however, was on the second floor, and the stairs were very steep. The dining room needs to be a little bit bigger. The people seemed to be crowded in, which we saw because they were eating when we were there. "

"I really love Giving Tree Senior Living. It's not like a nursing home. They have the feel of an apartment when you walk in. Even on the memory care side, it's nice, updated, and very clean. So it was good. Also, they can go from memory care all the way to the end of life, which is kind of cool. My father-in-law could stay there for whatever, but financially we couldn't do it. The staff that I met was nice. They were having an activity in one of the activity rooms, which is cool. It feels like a living room-type setting, but it's an open area. There's singing and music going on. Another thing is, if the family doesn't want to eat in the dining room, they have a family room. They could seat eight people, and you can book it and bring your own food. They have a shop where you can order pizza. And some of the patients there can have beer. They can drink to make them feel at home if they're able to and the doctor says it's okay. But it's coming from their cafeteria, so it's very interesting. The memory care people have their own little door. They have shared units. For my father-in-law, the room he was going to get was a good decent size. Some people can do single rooms, and it's a nice size, too. They have small refrigerators in each room, which is cool. The place is very clean, especially in memory care, so I am very impressed. You could tell that it's a newer facility."

"We liked Hillsbrook Village @ Allenstown very much. That's our first choice. Our experience was great and very thorough. We were impressed with the level of care. The premises were gorgeous. We didn't try the food there, but there was a nice assortment of people. They had a lot of activities. They were interested in reaching out to the people staying there and getting them involved in socialization and different activities. They were cheerful, upbeat, and nice. We loved the rooms. At the time, there was an opening that we would have taken that had a private bedroom in assisted living and then a living room and a kitchen area. The bathroom was big and clean. The view was medium, not as good as my mother-in-law's who's in the country, but it was good. They weren't pushy, but they were very helpful."

"Aynsley Place was a good place. There was an exercise room, but I didn’t see a swimming pool. The staff was very friendly and very caring with their residents. There was a lot of interaction, and each staff member knew every resident's name, which I thought was very nice."

"Windsor Place of Wilmington is a clean and friendly place. My aunt's room is ideal for her because it's spacious. The food is good, and the dining room is very appealing and done very nicely. She can get her hair and nails done once a week. They have a gym, daily activities, and a bus for field trips. The staff has been very good."

"I was very pleased with the staff, their attention to my mother, and the fact that the facility was bright and clean. I would recommend Oceanview to anyone who asked me about assisted living. "

"My mom just moves in Ernest P. Barka Assisted Living Facility. It is super clean and not overly large. Also, it is part of a nursing home complex, and my mom is hospice eligible so at this point, if she needs to have more specialized nursing care, her address won't change. She can just seamlessly move into the nursing area and then come back to her assisted living apartment as she is able. I like that we don't have to transfer her. The rooms are very attractive, very updated, pleasant, bright with lots of windows, sunny, warm and not depressing at all. It is really quite lovely. The staff is really understanding and patient because my dad -- who is also involved in the process -- is an elderly man, and he tries their patience a couple of times, but they are always very understanding and accommodating. Also, there are a lot of things to learn about insurance benefits like when and what benefits kick in, and they are really patient in providing us the knowledge that we need to make an educated decision. There are activities, and my mom loves bingo. They do a small set up of bowling. They have people come in and play music on a beautiful piano, and she really enjoys that. Everything is going very well. They have been very accommodating in moving her in, getting televisions and a telephone hooked-up, and they just bend over backwards to make it as stress free as possible. "

"This intimate community is privately run and very very attractive. Relatively new, it was built just ten years ago as an addition to Colonial Poplin, one of the most highly rated nursing homes. For someone who has a retiring nature or is just a bit social, and cares deeply about the graciousness of her/his environment, this is worth checking out. For the caregiver, the smaller scale make it much more manageable than a larger place. And the staff are fabulous. Not only are they caring, they know their stuff and keep a sharp eye out for their residents' well-being. They know their residents as individuals. They speak relatively little baby-talk to residents, a prevalent demeaning habit in some larger homes. Oh, and the two brothers who own it are very gracious too, and they go out of their way to ensure that the food is nicely done. My mom lived at Poplin Way and then Colonial Poplin for four years between 2002 and 2006. That was a while ago, but it' s still run by the two brothers. Their continued presence makes me thinks that Poplin still keeps to high standards. The only downside, the reason for four stars rather than five, is that the laundry regularly lost items (as is true at most homes), the person handling the accounts was not cut out for the job (they Must have someone else by now), and the doctor was a severe challenge (and has since moved on). "Fox Den is wonderful. My mother loves it there. She gives us pictures and feedback monthly. They have activities that she's involved in. She loves that every day there's something new going on. She's very, very pleased and we're very pleased. The facilities are exceptional. "

"My mother became a resident at Langdon Place six years ago, after needing to be on oxygen full time after a bout with pneumonia, She was able to have a single room with a large window over looking the parking lot where relatives arrive to visit. She enjoys this aspect of her room, as well as the private bathroom within it. The style of the whole building is very upscale, with a formal dining room, where once a week cocktail parties are held, as well as celebrations once a month for the residents born within it. There's a den/library that offers large screen viewing of movies, and a recently updated pool and whirlpool in. a southern exposure large area with sliding glass doors to let in the fresh air as the weather permits. Holidays are celebrated with special events and treats from the kitchen- with family members welcome to attend. An activities director plans outings to local places of interest, as well in 'in house' activities. On to the health overseeing that she has benefited from: without sharing private details of my mother's various conditions through out the past years, I can truly exclaim with great gusto, "God Bless the 2nd floor nurses!". I am sure her life has been saved more than once by the skilled care she has received. There have been lung issues, caught before getting more serious requiring hospitalization. There have been skin issues that are chronic, and somewhat the result of choices my mother continues to make. Still the tending to them with twice a day treatments is carried through with patience and diligence. I am in and out several times a week, and seen the kindness and genuine affection shown to my mother. She is still ambulatory with a walker to both carry a traveling oxygen canister, and offer balance support, when she chooses to leave her room. Housekeeping staff are in the details needed to keep her feeling well cared for, whether a full replacement canister is needed, or she's requesting her bed to be turned down. Langdon Place also offers room service dining for residents no longer interested in joining the dining room group. Time is marching on, as it inevitably does, and despite my mother's choice of less participation in group activities she is very comfortable and continually tended to through out her day., During my last stop in she was exclaiming about the banana cream pie, dessert that had arrived in her room on that evening's dinner tray! "

"My father-in-law used to live in Cornerstone at Hampton. We spent a lot of time there, before COVID hit in particular, and we were very favorably impressed with them. The people were lovely, the facility was very nice, and the food was good. They really took good care of him and he was quite happy there. You could tell that they were genuinely attached to him and that they formed a connection with him. COVID was not all that great, but it felt as though he was in a place where the people cared about him. They were well-resourced and we were pleased by the whole experience. He had a studio apartment that was very nicely appointed with a nice bathroom and a small kitchenette. He also decorated it with his belongings. It's a two-story facility and they have a memory care unit as well. It's not an enormous place, so the personalized care was quite good. They knew everybody and the staff made an effort to connect with the residents. They had a lot of offerings, like movie nights a couple of times a week, a cocktail lounge, happy hour, people that come in from outside to give lectures, and every month they had a different theme/country/location that people engaged in. They had a nice public space behind the building that had a fence so people could not wander off, which was nice. So, they were terrific. They were really nice people, really caring, and proactive."
