"A company here in Portsmouth is taking care of my husband. It's called the Extended Family. They have women come out to help me during the day. It seems to be working out fine so far. It was recommended to me by a nursing emergency care place when my husband got out of the hospital. They have caretakers that come part of the day, the whole day, and every day in the week. They have several choices of caregivers. I signed up with them to take care of my husband. So far, it has been good. We had a little bump here and there, but it's turning out OK. They provide physical therapy, occupational therapy, and day-to-day maintenance. He is in a hospital bed in the living room and they're making sure he is clean and taken care of. They do just about everything. It helps me because then I can get out shopping and I can do the things I need to do. They started out all day and all night, but I think we're going to lower down to part of the day and maybe not even at night anymore. It depends on the care he needs, and as he gets better, they adjust to my schedule and what he needs. They're very caring and very conscientious. They keep a log of everything they've done. They're working out fine. I appreciate their help. They're very congenial. They care about me, too. They help me out so I can get out and go to the store. They do housekeeping if I want them to. They offer to do dishes and vacuum also. It's pretty good all the way around. The scheduling is done every week. They send me a schedule of who is going to be here and what time. I would recommend them."

"My mom, who needs 24/7 care, had been in the hospital for some time. When we brought her home, we hired a service provider that we were unhappy with. We had a family member who came and stayed with Mom for an extended period of time, so were able to use my sibling full time versus the other provider. But when my sibling needed to get back to her own life, we started looking around for a new provider. Steve and Help In Home was barely new to the area and had just started his business after having gone through similar situations with his own parents. We had gotten his name from a retirement community where my mother lived. We contacted him as well as other in-home care providers, but we were really impressed with Steve and his personal touch. "We were able to hook up with Cornerstone VNA to get a day person that could come and help with my parent's breakfast and lunch. They help in getting my parents up, making coffee, and giving them breakfast and lunch. My mother has dementia, so they're able to play a puzzle or do something. They watch a show with my mom so my dad can rest. My dad is 92, and my mother is 90, so they really need quiet most of the day, and we're able to get that with Cornerstone. They are providing some paid people that we're paying per hour, and it's working out well. The girl we have coming is very bubbly and very giving. She said she thinks that this is her calling to help older people. She wasn't able to come Wednesdays and Fridays, but Cornerstone has been really good about changing the schedule around, and now, we're going to have her from Monday through Friday. We also have Easterseals, and they're providing a girl that helps with housekeeping. So now, we're pretty much covered through the day. That's what we were looking for without having to take the step of going into the nursing home. We're very pleased."
