Weatherization Assistance Program

This program is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and provides home energy efficiency services to low-income households. In order to qualify, income must not exceed 60% of the estimated state median income. Priority is given to seniors and individuals who are disabled and include those who receive Social Security income. Services include sidewall insulation, limited energy-related repairs, and more.

A new tax law states that all homeowners in the state of Massachusetts automatically receive $125,000 in protection against taxation if they haven’t already filed for homestead protection. Seniors who are age 62 and over are eligible for up to $1,000,000 in homestead protection and can have the homestead filed by a loved one on their behalf.

Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

LIHEAP is a federally funded program that assists low-income homeowners and renters with their winter heating bills. To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years old and meet household size and income limits. Once accepted, households can get a discount or monetary payment sent directly to the vendor that provides their electricity or gas, as well as assistance with their telephone bill.
