"My mother needed in home assistance and we chose Home Instead Senior Care Chelmsford, Ma. The staff in the Office (Donna and Claire were fantastic ( always available to help whenever I called with and issue or required a change). The home care personnel were the best. They not only took care of the things that my mother could no longer do - shopping, light cleaning, preparing meals - taking my mother to her doctor appointments, checking to make sure mom took her medicines; they also became good friends with my mother - talking to her, doing puzzles with her, watching television with her, taking care of mom's cat (which was not part of their job description). My mother looked forward to seeing them and was always little happier after they left. If you have family members that live in the Chelmsford area and they require in home services, I highly recommend you talk with someone at Home Instead Senior Care Chelmsford, Ma."

"My 97 year old aunt was still living by herself in her own home when she started to fall. My wife and i decided we would get her into the nursing home until we could retrofit our house to have her stay with us. She had very limited mobility and required a care giver to come in the morning and again in the late afternoon to get her in and out of the bathroom, bathed, dressed etc. The first agency we chose unfortunately did not work out too well and we had Gary come in and do a site visit and meet with my aunt. I only wish we had chosen them from the beginning. The difference was like night and day. Our biggest concern was reliability, with APAH we had access online to the care giver schedule, Belinda was always available if I had questions or concerns with the schedule. The caregivers were professional, kind , compassionate and very reliable. In particular Tina was fantastic but they were all excellent at their job. We discovered that though rewarding, taking in an elderly relative to care for is stressful and carries a ton of responsibility. Thank God for Gary and his team, they took so much of the stress away. Unfortunately, my aunt recently has moved into the nursing home due to health concerns. But she was very grateful for the care she received and was very fond of all the girls that she dealt with. I would not hesitate to recommend APAH Merrimack Valley if you need in home care providers."

"We have had Home Instead Senior Care in my in-law's home for over 4 months now and have been more that satisfied with their care. My husband and his brother flew in from out of state to evaluate mom and dad's needs to be able to safely stay in their own home. HISC was called in to work with my in-laws and family members to determine what types of care was needed and came up with an excellent plan of care. HISC has provided showering assistance, meal preparation, medication reminders, and rides to medical appointments. HISC has been wonderful to work with as needs and preferences have changed: they are accommodating to provide the best care suitable for my in-laws. Our entire family is confident that mom and dad can live safely in their own home for many more years to come with the care provided by HISC."

"I chose them after speaking to the owner. He called me back right away and we spoke on the phone. He was actually the only person that called me back after I had reached out to them. Their care we're phenomenal. They were amazing. The owner was very invested and helped me through the entire process that I was going through. I was getting an elderly woman out of a nursing home and putting her back into her home, which was the reason why I needed his service which was a 24 hour care service. He helped me through the entire thing when I didn’t know what I was doing. Their attention to detail in individual support was amazing. The caregivers that we had were amazing. There were several of them, because it was 24 hours so they took shifts. They were kind and compassionate and just amazing people; really kind, loving skilled, everything all combined. They were everything that you would want. It was 24-hour care so it was everything, bathing, toileting, dressing, companion, cooking, and cleaning. Our family friend was comfortable with the caregivers. She loved them and they had an excellent relationship. They had a passion for taking care of the elderly, which I think was something special. "

Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.

If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
