I am/was a resident of this facility

I'm a resident of StoryPoint Kalamazoo. It's a very friendly place. It has a very good variety of opportunities to participate in all kinds of things. I'm happy to be here. You don't meet anyone in the halls who doesn't speak to you. This is whether they live here, or whether they're working here, or if they're visiting here. Everyone is friendly and I am inclined to participate in things, so I am kept busy as much as I want to be. I have three rooms, a bedroom, a living, dining area, and a kitchen. It's complete with all the appliances and things that I need and enough storage, a bathroom with bathtub which I use. It was furnished by me. It has adequate room if I want to have two or three people for dinner. They have several different floor plans, a more compact, one-bedroom, two-bedrooms and I think there's even at least one three-bedroom here. There's an adequate choice if you want lots more space. If you'd rather be able to keep everything tidy in a smaller space, that's good, too. I have friends who have every one of the different kinds. I am on a plan that has one meal a day and I can choose between lunch or dinner. Other than that, I do my own. My day consists of first exercise in the morning. We have both strength and then balance. That's allotted an hour in the morning. There are lots of various kinds of things you can go to from a writing class to a card making class. I play volleyball a couple times a week and I help arrange flowers. We have fresh flowers on all the dining room tables that we put out and then I water those twice a week. We have a very nice library with lots of large print books and I also volunteer there to return books to the shelf and check them in. There are music programs at least once or twice a week, and those can be in the evening or even morning or afternoon, according to when groups are available. We have Lunch and Learn once a month that invites somebody in to speak to us and tell us about things that are available in the community or places in the community that would like us to help them with donations or that kind of thing. We get a robocall every morning that tells us what's happening and whether if something has been canceled or changed because of circumstances. There is an assisted living and an enhanced living area also available here besides independent. We have a piano bar once a month, a travelogue once a month, and discussion groups two or three a week. The staff is very friendly, very cooperative, willing to answer questions, and very available. it's very attractive. Right now, we're in the process of building, so there's a lot of mud and things, but that's all part of the process.

Provider Response

I am/was a resident of this facility

We are current residents of StoryPoint Kalamazoo. The food, activities, and facility are very good. We have been very pleased ever since we moved in. It represents a great place to live out your senior life. My apartment is a little over 1700 square feet. We have all the space that we really need. It's like a three-bedroom. We have endless activities. We go on trips, and we go on lunch and supper outings. We have a music review tonight of the spring music activities. We bring in artists from the university. We had the Kalamazoo Orchestra. Right now, my wife is practicing handbells for a handbell concert that is being held next week. We have a full woodshop, a stained-glass studio, and pottery. They have transportation to all the different things. The grounds are being redone. Inside, the facilities are being repainted and has new carpeting in and new furniture. It's like brand new. The food is very good. One nice thing we have here that most communities don't have is underground parking. It's incredible.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I am a current resident of StoryPoint Kalamazoo. I love the activities and you have a big choice of activities, music, cards, bingo, the gym, and card making. I love what they have to offer. I was in the assisted care, and they brought me up to independent. I have my own room. I can take care of myself, give myself showers now, and I love it. We just had a tornado and we were without electricity for three days. We have a button to push to let them know we're OK and that was not available. They had no hot water, no hot coffee, no nothing, but we did have food. We had sandwiches and fruits and chips. They should have had something catered in, like a cup of coffee at least. That's the only complaint I have. Up until now, everything has been perfect. I believe it was mismanaged for three days. None of the important staff was here. I have no intentions of leaving. I love it here. I love the people. This is family. I love the workers here. I just feel management should have been here at that time, but I understand it was weekend and they get off. They have a cleaning lady that comes every two weeks. Sometimes she does a very good job, and other times I think she's rushed and she doesn't do as good. My apartment is nice. Everything is nice. If I need something done, I ask and it's done. I had a little problem with my window and they had to replace it and they did that and had it all painted and cleaned.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I'm in StoryPoint Kalamazoo. I have never met anyone in this facility that has been not upbeat. They're all very willing to open up to your friendship. Everyone that I have met have been very congenial and that's the help and the people that are living here. The apartment that I have is overlooking a little courtyard. It's absolutely gorgeous. It's just like the rest of the facility. When you drive in to this facility, first you see their landmark which is a big brick piece that is surrounded by flowers then you go down the driveway and there's a pond with ducks and geese that are so beautiful. When you reach the facility, it has an overhang and you can park your car there. There has been no one at the desk or anywhere else in this whole facility that haven't been very congenial. They have so many activities going on. It's listed on a sheet that anyone is available to consider going to and they have been very organized in this facility. They have mass on Sundays, they have rosaries, and they have things for the church facilities. Everything has been absolutely perfect for me. The staff has been absolutely anything that I ever want because all I have to do is go say something and that if it's possible, they'll correct it. If I need help to make my bed, I just call and they come in and make my bed. If I needed help to dress, they're right here to help me with my shower or my dressing. I have nothing but respect to give to anyone in this building. Even the beautician is very congenial. It's just very pleasant to be here. The meals are really good and substantial. The desserts and everything are wonderful and the choices have been superb. There isn't a complaint in the world as far as I'm concerned. They give you a balanced diet. This summer, they've got a shuffleboard out here that people can utilize, and you can walk around in the garden. There are little seats that you can sit and enjoy the sunset or the sunrise. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't comfortable. They are just as reasonable as they could possibly be because they offer so many things for people to participate to make them happy. They give you a menu sheet and an entertainment sheet monthly. They're on top of things. I've even got a little unit that I could push a button and someone would be here at my request within an hour. They would be here no matter what. I'm just amazed at how wonderful it is being here. They got a bus, and they'll take you to anything that's available.

Huge thank you to StoryPoint - Kalamazoo. Since my mom moved in, in October 2023, we have seen that not all heroes wear capes. My mom was welcomed, with open arms, when she moved in. And she has been “home” ever since. When she fell and broke her hip, in early 2024, the StoryPoint folks were amazing and patiently and compassionately helped us navigate the situation. We were able to arrange for additional services and the transition home was seamless. The community is beautiful and the staff outstanding. We are so thankful to have found such an amazing community for my mom. She is happy and we are able to relax knowing that she is safe and cared for.

Provider Response

Hi Mindy, We’re thrilled to hear that your experience with our team has been so positive and that your mom's transition home was seamless. Our dedicated team works hard to ensure the best experience for our residents and their families. We hope your mom is doing well. We truly appreciate you!

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Storypoint of Kalamazoo has given my father an extraordinary living experience! From the first initial tour and highly detailed informative session, both he and I felt they were the perfect place for him to enjoy life. The apartments are spacious and immaculate, accompanied by plenty of windows for sunshine and coziness for Michigan winters! The food is highly recommended as I have dined with him several times. Waldorf salad, shrimp, and a pig roast on location?! I commend the entire kitchen/waitstaff as they put the resident’s needs priority. Whether it be dietary, mobility, seating preference, is met with kindness and accommodation. My father is enthralled with the social activities offered and I have found it trying to get him away for a daughter date night outside of Storypoint! Amidst the on-site daily activities, there have been bus outings arranged to numerous places. The director and event’s planner are all ears to the resident’s feedback and requests. Storypoint makes it feel like home to all. Both residents and their families. I am so grateful for them to ensuring the well being and safety of my father!

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother has been a resident at Story Point/Bronson Place since 2007. She was very very active when she first arrived and continues being active to this day. Her needs have of coursed changed over the years, but Story Point has been able to accommodate with activities that meet these changes. The staff is outstanding and when she has needed personal care, Story Point could accommodate her needs with paid private duty services. My mother has always had a very special relationship with the front desk staff, the maintenance staff, the kitchen personnel, activities personnel, the housekeeping staff and administration. The Director of Story Point and staff care about the individual residents, making sure the residents feel heard and supported. As my sister and I have watched our mother age, we both feel that Mom has always been living in the best “home” for her, Story Point/Bronson Place. We also appreciate all the support we have received as our mother’s family over the years from management and the staff. Additionally, we are seeing many impressive physical changes of the facility, inside and outside happening over the past months

Provider Response

Everything so far that we have experienced with Story Point has been wonderful. When we needed help with my mom’s dog, staff helped. Now we are having more issues and everyone has been great. Giving wonderful experienced advice and just giving us time to figure things out. Our mother had met some great people that she now calls them friends. The facility sits on a great piece of property and is very inviting. I would totally recommend this Senior place of it fits for yourself or your parents.

Provider Response

Hi Tammy, Thank you for your review! Home truly isn’t complete without our beloved pets. We’re so glad to hear that your mom is enjoying everything at our community!

My 99 year old mother has lived at StoryPoint for 16 years in her own apartment. After a pelvis break and rehab, she was able to return to her apartment because she was able to get assistance on a schedule that worked for her. Everyone is so accommodating, friendly, and eager to help. This help extends from the director who makes time to hear you, to the wonderful people at the front desk, to maintenance and cleaning services, and the staff in the dining room. My sister and I feel my mother is safe, which gives us peace of mind!

Provider Response

Hi Judith, We’re wishing your mom a speedy recovery! It’s wonderful to hear that she has been with us for so long and that our dedicated team has been able to accommodate her needs. We’re glad to know we’re meeting your expectations! Thank you for your kind review.

I toured StoryPoint Kalamazoo. I loved it. They showed me everything. I was able to talk to residents and families, so I got all points of view. The staff was wonderful, knowledgeable, and answered all our questions. They had an activity going on and I witnessed it. They have a lot of outdoor space. They had a lot of flowers planted by the residents and a little vegetable garden for the residents.

We went to look at StoryPoint Kalamazoo. My daughter and I went together, and we just had a very nice visit. I liked the apartments, the friendliness of the staff, the layout of the building, and all of the amenities they have. I just liked it all. I was looking for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment. We went into three different apartments, the game room, the auditorium, and several different places. They had a library, a dining room, and a craft room. The staff was very kind. He was very receptive to having us there. They were very helpful and friendly. They couldn't have been nicer. They were willing to be of assistance in any way they could. They come and do your housekeeping every other week. They wash your flat laundry every week.

Provider Response

Hi Pamela, We're thrilled to hear about your positive experience in our community! It's wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the apartments, team, and amenities. We appreciate your kind words and are glad that you felt welcomed and supported during your visit. Thank you for sharing your feedback!

StoryPoint Kalamazoo was topnotch. It was a beautiful facility. We saw a lot of the staff and I was impressed when we walked in the front door. The receptionist that we met right inside the front door had her nameplate there, and she had a job title that said "The Chaos Coordinator," which cracked me up and made me laugh. She's in charge of keeping everything under control. The facility was very nice. The rooms that we toured were very well laid out, and they were in the process of remodeling. So we saw one in a state of disrepair, and then one that was all finished. They had a really nice dining room, too. They have a fitness room with a full time fitness person on staff. The menu looked good.

Provider Response

Hi Terry, Thank you so much for your kind words about StoryPoint Kalamazoo! We are happy to hear that you had such a positive experience during your visit. We appreciate your feedback and are glad you enjoyed the community, team, and amenities we offer. We look forward to welcoming you back soon!

My mother has moved into StoryPoint Kalamazoo. We just liked how it looked. It was bright and open, and the apartment was really cute and felt like a good atmosphere for my mom. The move-in was a little bit rough. I had to ask several times to get certain things done. The staff is very friendly and very nice. They offer a lot of activities if people choose to join in. It's very clean. The value for the money is good.

Provider Response

Hi Linda, Thank you for sharing your feedback on your mother's experience at StoryPoint Kalamazoo. We're glad to hear that you appreciate the atmosphere, friendly team, cleanliness, and value for your money! We apologize for any roughness during the move-in process and are committed to providing a seamless experience as we have taken this feedback to the team. StoryPoint Kalamazoo was beautiful. The tour was fine. She did a great job walking us around. We got to meet a lot of the people that actually lived there, and the different rooms. It was very nice and very welcoming. The front desk people were excellent. They offered us coffee. We saw the different sizes of the rooms, the floors, the events area, and all kinds of things. The layout was very good. For someone that's just going on a tour, you could get lost very easily if you didn't have someone with you, but there were signs all over there on the wall telling you exactly which way to go and what to look for. She was a good guide. She showed us the cafe area and the full meal areas, and all kinds of areas. There were some amenities that they don't have, which we were looking for. There were a lot of residents out that time because they were having a book sale. They had their own library. We were there around lunchtime, and we met people at the small cafe. They were eating lunch and they had soup, a salad, and a main dish. It looked good and it smelled good, but they didn't invite us to eat there. They had a basement where you can park your car and that's where you also put your recyclables, and they do have garbage cans for all of that.

Provider Response

Hi Carol, Thank you for touring our community and taking the time to give us feedback. We are glad you enjoyed our team and loved the community overall. While our community offers a lot of amenities right now, we are always interested in learning what more we could provide. It was fabulous; the staff was helpful and friendly. The apartments were very nice. My parents liked the 2-bedroom, and it is nicely decorated with nice windows. It is a well-built facility, and they liked the indoor parking. They invited us to music night and cook out. When we toured there, it was summer, and it was beautiful. We did eat there a couple of times, and they have a chef that prepares the food. Beautiful facility.

I was able to visit here and it was great. If I had sent my husband there sooner, he would have had a nice place. The staff are very accommodating. The one room I visited was very small and dark -- it was in the middle of the building -- but I am sure they have cheerier rooms. They didn’t show me any activities, but they I know that they do have an activities director.

We chose here because it was close by where she lived before and so she was still familiar with the area. They have all kinds of things that are going on. They have exercise class daily. Everyday there's something different that they can do that they post. They have wine tasting parties. If you want to learn how to do a new craft, they have people that will teach you like crocheting or knitting. You can plant in the garden if you want to. I really appreciate the fact that the staff are very friendly to me. My mom has a two-bedroom apartment and a small kitchen that she can cook her own meal if she wants to. I have eaten there and I really like the food. They had a lot of different things that you can choose from the menu.
