Independent Living Communities in Kalamazoo, MI

"There are several different buildings at Friendship Village including a nursing home, assisted living building and a dementia assisted living building. What I toured was the regular assisted living building, which I was extremely impressed with. This facility is extremely beautiful and home-like. Residents have private rooms that they can decorate how they wish. Additionally, there are computers, a library, several dining areas that the residents can socialize at. Also there are several activities that are conducted throughout the day the residents can choose to participate in or not. Activities include discussions on major issues, crafting, group outings, and exercise programs. Unlike other nursing homes, there is not a strict schedule that the resident is forced to follow. They can choose what they wish to do and choose when they want to do it. Staff is on call 24/7 in order to assist with ADLs (dressing, eating, toileting etc.) The staff seemed to be very friendly and willing to do whatever it takes to ensure the resident is safe, comfortable and happy. "

"StoryPoint Kalamazoo was topnotch. It was a beautiful facility. We saw a lot of the staff and I was impressed when we walked in the front door. The receptionist that we met right inside the front door had her nameplate there, and she had a job title that said "The Chaos Coordinator," which cracked me up and made me laugh. She's in charge of keeping everything under control. The facility was very nice. The rooms that we toured were very well laid out, and they were in the process of remodeling. So we saw one in a state of disrepair, and then one that was all finished. They had a really nice dining room, too. They have a fitness room with a full time fitness person on staff. The menu looked good."

"My in-laws live at Story Point at my recommendation. As a pastor, I get to several facilities in our community and have found that Story Point is among the best, especially for independent living. The grounds are beautiful, and the interior is quite "swank" in that it is clean, bright, uncluttered, stylish, and seems a bit like a luxury hotel. The staff are friendly, the residents affable, the activities meaningful and enjoyable, and the food is rather good too. "

"My friend moved to Centre Meadows which is a 55 and older apartment complex. I like the location the best. The least would be the lack of staff communication. They offer food drop-off five days a week, Monday through Friday. They do cookouts and they have luncheons (it's mostly female there and he's male). They also have a movie theater, hair salon, a game room that has a pool table, and a fitness room. So, it's an excellent value for the money."

"I toured Blueberry Hill Assisted Living Lawton. I like that it was clean. The people were very friendly. The rooms were of a good size. They're not tiny, but they're not enormous either. All the meals are provided. The person during the tour was very informative, answered any questions that we had, and generally showed us around the facility. So she did a great job. The people stay in a room. They have activities that you can go on and they have meals that are prepared. The residents don't ever cook. They have three meals a day and a snack in the evening."

"We did a tour of Heritage Community of Kalamazoo. I liked that the staff was readily available to explain how a continuum of care investment was a good fit for our family. They have a lot of dining options and socially active living for independent living to support long-term care, and for healthier living for as long as possible. I have tried the food and it's very delicious. The place is immaculate."
