Home to approximately 108,000 seniors in 2015, Baltimore’s senior population is expected to increase by more than 10% by 2030. To cater to this growing demographic, Baltimore provides a number of senior-focused resources. Available community-based support programs include the Family Caregiver Support Program, the Home Delivered Meals service and the Senior Assisted Living Group Home subsidy program. The city also sponsors transportation programs for seniors, such as TaxiCard and MTA’s Senior Reduced Fare Program. For seniors who want to transition to a residential environment, Baltimore is home to dozens of assisted living facilities, which are licensed by the Maryland Department of Health to provide a specific level of care.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
