Baton Rouge, Louisiana, sits on the bank of the mighty Mississippi River. Nearly 43,000 members of its population of 225,370 are age 60 or older, and the city offers plenty of interests to explore. BREC’s Adult Leisure Department has 18 centers with activities designed to help senior adults lead a healthy lifestyle, including crafts, quilting, painting and exercise classes. EBRCOA offers opportunities for seniors to socialize and enjoy the company of their fellow Baton Rouge residents in a number of Senior Centers while enjoying meals, classes, leisure activities and health screenings. Despite its frequent rain showers, Baton Rouge has 214 sunny days per year, mild winters and no snowfall, which is perfect for seniors who don’t like the cold weather.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
