My mother-in-law started out in the assisted living side of Garden View Assisted Living - Baton Rouge, and now she's in the memory care. They have a very positive attitude. If anything happens to her or if they have any kind of concerns regarding her medication, they always call right away. If we need any kind of help or information from the doctor, they just seem to be Johnny-on-the-spot with it. The staff members are just very caring. They don't treat them like residents, they treat them like friends. The price is good, too. Everything always seems to be clean and wiped down. There's no smell or anything like that. It's also a new building, so there's plenty of room in the dining area. Everybody can eat at once. They have an activity every day, whether it's bingo, bowling, volleyball, or just storytelling or singing.

I toured Garden View Assisted Living Baton Rouge. The rooms are just average-sized rooms, but they're well-appointed. The hallways and the main facility areas are very spacious and very comfortable. They do their dining a little differently. Their memory care unit is divided into two sections and each section has its cooks, kitchen staff, and well-care staff as well in their dining area, so the memory care patients aren't all crowded together. There is a small group. There's no odor and everything's clean. It's got a lot of room and it feels warm in there. I love the design of the hallways. It's very unique.

Garden View Assisted Living Baton Rouge was very nice. The extra services were just more expensive. We would have been paying more and had to do more legwork. We would still have to go to the grocery store for Momma all the time, like we're doing now. It's kind of more just an assisted living place, really. They did have memory care, but it's real small, and they didn't have any openings. They seemed to be always filled up. The minus of the place was they just didn't offer as much as the others, like incontinence supplies and things like that. You have to provide that kind of stuff, which is kind of odd. Whereas the other places have a program for it. We visited the memory care unit, and it was very nice. The inside was very nice and smelled well. It's a very put together place. It would have been our second choice for sure if we would have had to put Mom in a place, and the other one wasn't available. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and they definitely seemed to have more staff. They just don't offer the care that I'm looking for that the other place offers. They could have an incontinence program for the memory care because one of the main issues for people with dementia and Alzheimer's is the incontinence that they have.

I did a tour of Garden View Assisted Living - Baton Rouge. I liked everything about it. It was good, but my mom just liked the other one better. The staff members were very understanding and informative. They were excellent. It was just well-maintained with lots of amenities. They have an exercise room and a salon. They had a nice courtyard and outdoor area, all that stuff. It's close to our family, and close to the hospital.

My mom was a resident of Garden View Assisted Living - Baton Rouge. What I liked best was when we first moved in; everything seemed to work well. Then they changed upper management, and it just went downhill. They made a lot of promises, but did not deliver very much. The food got to where it was inedible for her, which is why we left. I give them a three. It was like on the weekends you might go in over there and have an issue, and the cook was in charge; there were several reasons. Right now, there's nothing they could do personally. I was very unhappy with the place. When we first moved in, the management they did a good job. When they left, the replacements just didn't. This is my first experience with a facility. I know that when we moved her into another place, I was much happier. The food there wasn't good. She did enjoy the bingo. I guess the activities were better or more enjoyable for her. It was nice. It's a fairly new facility, and it was OK. I didn't have a problem with that. I don't think they had a gym. They did have a courtyard. They had a large meeting room where they would have people coming in, stuff like that. I don't have anything to compare it to, but where we went after was more expensive. I don't know if the care was better because it was more expensive. One of the main differences is that other than the cooks, the people that serve the meals were also the resident aides. At lunch time you had a hard time getting somebody when you push your buttons because they were busy in the kitchen. They had a nurse 8 to 5; but to be honest with you, I'm not really sure what her credentials were.

I visited Garden View Assisted Living - Baton Rouge for my mom. It was very nice, but it was more pricey than the other two I also visited. From what I saw, I have no complaints, it is just more pricey than what I can afford. The one-bedroom was very roomy. They give you a microwave and a full-size refrigerator; it was very nice. They also have a big walk-in closet. It was very roomy. The people I met were very nice. They had an exercise room, arts and crafts, and a TV room where they can watch movies. The place was very well maintained, very clean, and very updated.

We went to Garden View Assisted Living for lunch and did a quick tour. Some of the residents were in wheelchairs and some were using walkers. The cost is prohibitive for somebody living on Social Security and SSI. The rooms were clean, roomy, and nice. They had a special activity this week and invited us over. They have entertainment for the residents and a bus for transportation to shopping and to medical facilities. The staff we met was friendly and helpful. The lunch we had was OK. The facilities seemed nice, reasonably new and clean.
