"I toured Everywhere Is Home Residential Assisted Living. I was kind of skeptical about it because when I drove up, it was just like a regular house. When I entered it, it was very clean. The man who assisted me was the one who owns and runs the place. He has a few nurses who work there, and they are only supposed to have about 7 residents at a time. It can hold up to 8, but he just prefers to leave it at 7, and he puts two people in one bedroom. The place was nice and didn't seem to be that big. It's just a normal home with a kitchen and a bathroom that they remodel so they could put an actual wheelchair in them to bathe the residents. You have privacy when the door is closed, but the bathroom itself is all open. The owner was a very helpful person and really wanted to work with me, but it was out-of-pocket pay and more than I could afford. The people who were there were more like towards the end of life, to me. It's like hospice care, in a way. That's the kind of image I had about this facility. It was a nice place for somebody who needs that type of care. The physical appearance of the facility was just okay. It had beds, a TV, a dining table, and a little living room."

"Cypress Gardens Apartments is too expensive. What they showed me was a two-bedroom available. They have a long list for one-bedrooms. The staff put me on the list, but for me to actually go there and live, I have to fill out an application, and I have to put down a deposit, but they are the ones who determine how much deposit I need to put down. Then she took me around to the area where they have a coffee pot and a microwave available. It's basically a social gathering area for meetings. The master bedroom has a handicapped spot in it where they have rails alongside the toilet and a shower. It looked very nice. The rooms are in very good condition. The kitchen area has a sink, a stove, a refrigerator, and a microwave. They have a room for a washer and dryer that I would have to supply, along with all the other furniture for the apartment. They have a swimming pool available when the weather is good. They have a gazebo next to the swimming pool. There's also a path that goes to a park where you can have parties. The only way you can access it is to actually be a resident. They are very secure as far as the facility is concerned. They have a guarded gate in the front and then one that exits the property. You have to know the code to get in. When you go out, it automatically opens the gate that swings out one way. It doesn't allow other people to get in. They have two sides to the gate. The one on the right is the one that actually opens. The one on the left is stationary. They didn't offer to have a meal, that's something I have to provide for myself."

"I visited The Village of Southampton about six weeks ago. I liked the fact that they had three levels of care, independent living, assisted living, and memory care. It's all in one building. It's a high-rise building. They had activities for the people who live there. Everything was provided. They give you a list of activities for the whole month. Everything looked perfect. Everything was perfect. I saw an apartment, the dining room, the different rooms where they have activities, and I saw the vehicle that carries the people wherever they want to go. I talked to a couple of the residents, and they seem to be happy there. The staff who showed me around was very professional. I didn't try the food and seeing the menus, it looked very good. And they will take care of special diets."

"This memory care facility has the most important thing you should be looking for. Caring caregivers, Resident directors and executive and assistant directors. The medic team the caregiver director are all OUTSTANDING. After over a year I can say they care. They are constantly trained and what we all want for our parents or loved ones is being well cared for. Everything else you can visually see which is great. But the care, you have to know. 5 stars. They are also so receptive to any comments and will do everything in their power to make it better or change "

"Enclave at Lake Pointe was very, very clean. The staff was very caring and tried to see what my needs were first, before showing me the unit. Since I'm handicapped and I have a power wheelchair, they would give me a downstairs apartment. It's three floors and they have elevators. The hallways were roomy. The apartments were not close to each other. They have an exercise room, and a little sitting room where you can sit down and have lunch with other residents. I really liked the environment when I walked in. It's a fairly new place. They haven't been open that long so it's pretty much first come, first serve right now. The apartment had granite counters and stainless steel appliances. I'm getting a two-bedroom, two full bath with a patio, a living room, dining room, and a kitchen with islands in it. I could move around the kitchen because it's big enough for me. The staff was just perfect. As soon as I got out of the vehicle to go in, they greeted me at the door. The manager took us around and she was so caring. The patios were nice sized. The parking was great. They have a lot of handicapped parking. They do a lot of stuff with the residents, too."

"Mom, a native Houstonian, has lived comfortably at The Villages at Tanglewood for a year now. The casual and friendly atmosphere matches how she lived in her prior home of 20 years making the transition to independent living easier. The staff are accommodating and kind. She is still mentally and physically active and what the Villages at Tanglewood do not provide, the YMCA across the street does. When my husband and I visit from Austin, we actually stay on site in one of the apartments reserved for family guests. The food is so good, we happily eat in the restaurant where the wait staff are attentive and friendly. This is a safe and happy place for Mom."

"I took three tours here. Overall, I was very impressed with the fact that it is kind of small and intimate. You get more of a feeling of a family or a home. It's not big. I got to meet most of the staff that would be caring for my client, and I was very impressed with them. They were all very friendly. There are very few residents there right now, and they seem to interact with them on a one-on-one basis. The rooms are not that large, but they're very nice. The bathrooms are very well equipped with very large showers, which makes it easier to assist somebody with their bathing. They have a wonderful common area living room-type setting, and then a dining room where there's a full-sized refrigerator and snacks for the residents at all times. The first time I went there, a couple of the residents were finishing their lunch meals, but I was told that the caregivers eat their meals with the residents, so it's more like a sit-down family-type meal setting, and I was very impressed with that. If they needed physical therapy, they have that available, too. They have a salon and a gym area that the residents can use. They have several large common areas. There's a balcony area where you can sit outside. It's a relatively new place, so everything is nice, fresh, and new. All the staff were available to answer questions that I had."

"We toured The Buckingham, and it was very nice. It was the second that we would have chosen, if we hadn't gone with the other community. It was just very professional. The guy that gave us the tour gave us the answer to all of the questions. We visited with some people very briefly that were there, and they were all positive. It just looked like it would be a nice place to live. It was clean and big. They had a swimming pool and trails. The apartments were very nice. They had one on the bottom floor, which was attractive to us because we had a pet. We thought about it, but we decided that we could go with an upper floor. The meal plan and everything that they had was good. The only reason we went with another facility is that they were going to bankruptcy. We just felt like that was a negative that kept us from going to them. They got a lot of nice features and several different living areas. We were able to see three different apartments."

"My mom has been at The Abbey at Westminster Plaza for a number of years. It's a very nice facility in terms of its appointments, but whoever designed it had no concept of older people and the needs that they would have. The layout is very poor and the use of space is horrible. They have a very large bathroom but stupidly laid out because you have to crawl over the bathtub to get into the shower. The cabinets are all open with no doors. They have a kitchen area for a house, and it's got a huge island in it. It's a 1,000 square foot apartment but as far as usable space, it's wasted for the most part. The cabinets in the kitchen are way too tall for old people to reach without getting on something so it's just a waste of space. It's a very nice facility, much more like a Las Vegas upscale hotel than it is a facility for older people. They have two elevator stations in the building which were not conveniently located and the hallways were miles long. You look at them and they're maybe like 200 yards long. The staff is nice and seem to be attentive. They have a chef and he tries, but the quality of food is diminished since my mom has been there. They have lots of activities, and my mom does yoga. They have crafts classes, movies, and outings. The activities going on are wide and varied."

"My sister is here. The staff is great. My sister is in a one-bedroom apartment with a kitchen where she can do any kind of cooking she wants. They provide meals but only during the week for breakfast and lunch. She enjoys cooking, so that is good for her. If she wants to bring up leftovers and not cook, she is able to do that. They provide transportation to wherever she needs to go. It is independent living. I am very pleased. "

"I visited to look at their independent living community, and it is nice. The staff members are also very nice. They took me on the tour, and it seems like they love what they do. They have several things that they do to try and keep their people very active. They play cards, they have Bingo, and they take them out to events. They have just different kinds of events all the time, like movie nights, and things like that."

"Baybrook Park Retirement Center is a beautiful complex. For an adult, it's fine, but for family it's not. I certainly wouldn't move in with my children there. It's a little older, but it's beautiful. The staff members who assisted me were lovely people. The dining area and the game rooms were nice. They have just about what anybody wants to do, from exercise to playing cards."

"I have moved into Connally at Clear Creek 55+ Apartments. It's very nice. The upkeep is good. The apartment is very good. I like it a lot. The staff is very friendly, helpful, courteous, and considerate. If you have any concerns, they are good at answering your concerns. Very, very good customer service. I've just been here for two weeks. So, I just went to St. Patrick's potluck. They do yoga and do embroidery. They do an array of different activities. They play games, and they have Bible study on Wednesday nights. Those are some of the things that I've been informed about so far. It's supposed to get better from what I understand, too, because they are in the process of bringing on a new activities director."
