"Our friend lives in Chesapeake Bay, and we like it. We wouldn't want the room they live in, but we want a bigger room. The price is way less than the other place. Chesapeake Bay is immaculate. Their dining area is excellent. We didn't eat there, but we went through it all. The staff took us around. We rode on little golf carts to see other areas because one of them had a home that is single-story with a garage built in, like a home. My friend participates in water aerobics. They have workout rooms too. They take you to restaurants and they take you shopping if you want."

"I toured Everywhere Is Home Residential Assisted Living. I was kind of skeptical about it because when I drove up, it was just like a regular house. When I entered it, it was very clean. The man who assisted me was the one who owns and runs the place. He has a few nurses who work there, and they are only supposed to have about 7 residents at a time. It can hold up to 8, but he just prefers to leave it at 7, and he puts two people in one bedroom. The place was nice and didn't seem to be that big. It's just a normal home with a kitchen and a bathroom that they remodel so they could put an actual wheelchair in them to bathe the residents. You have privacy when the door is closed, but the bathroom itself is all open. The owner was a very helpful person and really wanted to work with me, but it was out-of-pocket pay and more than I could afford. The people who were there were more like towards the end of life, to me. It's like hospice care, in a way. That's the kind of image I had about this facility. It was a nice place for somebody who needs that type of care. The physical appearance of the facility was just okay. It had beds, a TV, a dining table, and a little living room."

"The Tradition is a beautiful setting for our Mother and she has come to feel that it is her new home. She has stabilized during her two and a half years on the Memory Care Unit and my family is grateful for that. She has received good medical support during a few challenging times. The Directors of Nursing Shay and Stephanie have been responsive to both my family and my mother during this time that she has been in Memory Care. I truly know that they genuinely work diligently every day to provide for the residents at Tradition and I can speak on behalf of my own mother and say that that has made difference for the better for her during this time in her life. Shay also referred us to an excellent private care practitioner in Houston which has also been helpful beyond words which led to our mothers successful recovery. The nursing directors have been clear about what our mother has needed and were correct. They knew the limitations of what can be provided , they both told us their assessment for her care needs , made recommendations for a sitter and our family responded. Our mom benefitted. Food is very good. Environment is clean and attractive. Staff are professional and kind. My only recommendation for the Tradition administration If feasible would be to hire more caregivers. A sitter is an additional charge. A sitter also keeps mom safe due to her advancing memory loss. More staff would help out on this matter. Overall, I give the staff and facility high marks. "The Village of Southampton was stunning. The views there are tremendous. You can see the whole city and can see downtown. The location is in the Rice Village at Rice University. There's a whole bunch of shops there. As long as we're able bodied, we can walk a mile or two. There's a lot of places that are within walking distance. That's the strong point of that one. The views are awesome. It's like 18 stories (or something like that), and all the apartments are just gorgeous. We've been there twice. They have exercise rooms, a swimming pool, and a lounge on the top floor. You could buy alcohol, snack foods, sandwiches, and stuff. The view is like drop dead gorgeous. There's an outside balcony that goes halfway around the building. It's stunning. The food was excellent. This is the best place in town."

"Cypress Gardens Apartments is a very good community. It seems like they have apartments, but not in the price point we're looking for. The room was very clean. They also have an elevator. Everything looked clean and very well taken care of. The staff members were very open, sympathetic, and very kind. They have a pool that is working, and then they have a common area where people can come in just to meet others. They also have a common place with computers where they can come and check anything if they need to."

"My parents will be moving to The Village of River Oaks. I once was invited to a barbecue there, so I went. The people there and the director, Laura, she was very nice and offered to show me if I wanted to see the apartment. I said I just want to meet the residents, and so she took me around and introduced me to more than a dozen people who were just so nice. The residents there, the staff, everybody was just really nice people. It had a good home feeling to it. It wasn't super duper fancy or crazy, but it was really nice and kept up clean. All the residents were clean, they were all well taken care of, so it's more the feel of it that I really liked. My dad was not in the best of health and I explained that to the directing nurse, and I asked whether they can go in as independent or assisted. She asked me to write up some information about his medications and prognosis, and they accepted him and his mom. I don't know how long they're going to be independent, but that's a good place to start. They have the option to make their own meals or go to the dining room that serves three meals a day. We stayed for lunch and it was so good. They also have a full kitchen, a full refrigerator, and everything in their own apartment. Every Friday night they have happy hour down in the main guestroom or ballroom or living room, and so they get together and they have drinks, and they have a band or something every Friday. Once a month, they do a big event out on the patio, which is really nice. It just brings everybody together; that was the barbecue thing that I went to. They also have daily exercise classes every day, a pool, and they have an activities room. The facility is eight stories, it's very nice. The monthly fee is a bit high compared to some of the other places we looked at. The company is currently painting their apartment and they'll be moving in."

"My uncle enjoyed The Village of Tanglewood, but it was a little farther away from family and friends than he cared for. As far as the facility and the people, it was great. They've got great staff. They were very patient with him because he doesn't walk fast. They took the time to speak to him and not to us because this is his decision, not ours. He didn't want anything too big, so we looked at one of the standard one-bedrooms. He liked the fact that they had a place where he could kind of prepare food for himself, but still have the opportunity to be able to go to the dining room. We didn't necessarily want him to have a stove anyway. It was clean. It didn't smell like you were at a place where seniors would be, so to speak."

"It was located in the part of the town where it's easy to get to. I liked that their staff was welcoming and thorough. I loved just the bright and modern look of it, lots of open air, green spaces, and places to gather. But they didn't have the bars down the hall and the building was 8 stories high. I met some of the residents there and they were friendly. They had good activities going."

"We went to The Tradition - Woodway this morning. It was very clean. The staff was very friendly, and seemed to know quite a bit about it. They have a swimming pool, a hair salon, a man's Cave with billiards, a golf simulator, a library, a workout room, and a craft room. We stopped at one of the informal snack areas. We saw the dining room. There was no food preparation going on at the time. It looked like a restaurant. The Tradition seems kind of sterile."

"The Buckingham was very nice. It was located in a nice area, but it was out of our league. You have to buy-in, which was non-refundable, plus the monthly fee. The place looked elegant and fancy. They seemed to have all the things that will make their residents happy. They had activities, a library, and shuttles to the medical center. They had areas for independent living, assisted living, and areas as you grow older like a health center. They had valet services, nice furniture, and uniformed and nicely-dressed staff. They have two or three restaurants and cafeterias."

"The Enclave at Lake Pointe was a very, very nice complex. It's new so there are all the modern facilities and amenities that you want. However, for me, it was too small for the furniture that I have. It was clean. Their mailroom was enclosed, which was nice. I was impressed with their pool and that they had a recreation area in the lobby that you could reserve for parties."

"We liked The Abbey at Westminster Plaza because it was an independent living place, not a nursing home. The room that we saw was nice, spacious, and convenient. I liked that they had a gym and a pool. The dining room was a little dingy, but the exercise area was brand-new compared to the dining room, which seemed to be the oldest part of the building."

"It was fine. It was a good visit. We had a fine lunch with them, and the food was OK. It wasn’t anything to brag about, but it was good and well prepared. The dining room was one big room with the food around to each table. The living quarters have been redone, so they were very nice and well arranged. Mainly, I wanted to live downstairs, but they didn’t have anything open downstairs. The community was fine. I have known about it for quite a few years and know people there. It’s good. "

"Connally at Clear Creek 55+ Apartments is beautiful and very well built. I think it's only maybe seven years old. Everybody's nice. Maintenance is good. Management is good. I'm very happy that I'm taking care of myself as opposed to being someplace where they're doing everything for you. It's close to one of my kids, and I like that it's 55-plus. I have a two-bedroom, two-bath, nice kitchen, and nice living room and dining room. It's a nice size. The great room downstairs, where you have functions, has a beautifully set-up kitchen that, when you have a large group, you can do your cooking in there. I love it here. The residents do their own activities. They have set up their own exercise program, and they exercise one day, and then another day, they do chair yoga for seniors. We have a book club that has been formed by the community. It's independent living. You do what you want to do. You do your own cooking."
