"My word for Atria Darien is "options". They provide a myriad of options to their residents which is a huge plus. They treat us all as individuals and truly listen to what we are interested in and need (in terms of activities, menu items, etc). They make it work and are always open and responsive to new ideas. "I was sincerely welcomed for a tour of the brand new facility. Very knowledgable representatives. I'm proactive in planning for the future (75 years old) and I'm not ready yet for a senior center (too little private space, fixed meal plan),.. I'm dealing with the 12 stairs at home. I am very interested in Maplewood, but not yet."

"I toured Gladhaven Club. They gave me a nice tour. They provide three meals a day. The dining room and serving facilities looked to be perfectly fine. The housekeeping and the age of the facility were fine, too. I appreciate the opportunity to talk with the owner and operator of the facility. However, the sleeping space that I would be assigned to, because that was the only room available, was just too small for someone who is an independent individual such as myself. It's not a one-bedroom apartment, not even a studio. It's less than a studio size. I was taken to the dining room where they were beginning to serve some lunch, and I saw the outside of the facility, too. It's an old house from early the 1900s. It's sort of an antique."

"The staff in Meadowview assisted facility are very friendly. My mother is very happy to be fortunate to have people to talk to, especially when she get's lonely. Most of the family visit her on the weekends. This facility are there for her every day of the week which is great because everyone in the family are always busy with work. My mother is 88 years old and isn't stable enough to walk by herself. Her legs are very fragile. My mother has fell down several times when she was living by herself in her home. Living in this assisted facility has helped her over the past 2 years. My family agrees that this facility has given my mother the best assistance. I am content. I hope my mother lives many more years and I know this facility will help her accomplish it. "

"The person I visited at The Knolls really likes the place. It has a very big Olympic-sized swimming pool, and she is a swimmer, so she really loves that. She can drive her car and everything, so she is kind of on her own, and she likes that of course. She has a two-bedroom that has a really nice kitchen, and she can cook her own food if she wants. She has a washer and dryer in the bathroom, and there's one room that is set up like an office with a desk, and she can use that. I saw the dining room, but no one was eating in it. I didn't meet any staff, but my friend showed us the place herself. The facility is not brand new, but it's not really old either, so it's nice."

"Spring Meadows by Monarch was very clean and very nice. The people were very friendly, helpful, and gave a lot of information. They had a lot of cool things that they were doing with the residents. They had nice grounds that they could walk around, a courtyard, some gardens that they could work in, a gym, and trips to the market."

"New Nautilus Hotel was beautiful. The person that brought us around was very lovely. The studio she showed us was beautiful. We found that the price and for what it's worth is excellent. They seemed to have some activities but they didn't have the activities that my mother was interested in. They didn't have those activities already organized. We had salad and tuna fish. They offered soup but we didn't have it. They gave us pudding and coffee or tea, whatever you wanted. The food was very good. They had a library and a movie theater. We only really dealt with two people. Holly was very nice. She was very accommodating, and answered all our questions and the woman at the front desk seemed nice, but we didn't deal with anybody else. Dining was set up like a cafeteria. They give you a $700 stipend every month, and then you just purchase what you want. The soup and dessert are included, but for everything else, you purchase it like as if it's a regular menu."

"Fairlawn Adult Home was not to be rejected judging on the outside, but when we went it, we were disappointed in the general appearance. It was not what we had hoped for. We arrived at about lunchtime and found that the lunch area was brimming with folk, so its capacity seemed to be not quite what you would expect. I wouldn't want to have to have my meals in a place like that day after day. The ambiance not as good as I hoped. In general, we found it unacceptable for our purposes. The staff members who gave us the tour were very nice people, and we felt welcomed and were not treated as if we were an infringement on anything. We were invited to look at everything. I didn't see any discontent, but the rooms were not ideal for the people who were occupying them. All the rooms were shared and occupied by at least two people, and I was hoping to have a private space."

"This is an immaculate home. The rooms are well designed and maintained. I met the home manager and chef. They were extremely friendly and was able to answer all questions asked. I love the semi private suite since it has an seating area and a dedicated full bathroom. There is also a 24/7 chef who makes meals based on each resident's needs. While we are not ready to move my mom for another 6 months, I will definitely take her to this home at that time. I hope they have availability then. I would recommend this home to anyone looking for a clean, well kept, friendly home for their family member"

"My mom is at Gurwin Jewish - Fay J. Lindner Residences. She's getting decent care. I felt that the place looked a little tired. The management's style is maybe a little weak, but nothing to the detriment of the residents that are there. The facility is nice and kept clean. They serve three meals a day, and there are two seatings for each, which I feel is a little clunky for the people who have to go early in the morning. The first seating is a little tough, and the residents have to get used to that."

"Brandywine Senior Living is a very large facility. It is located in an area right off of the Long Island Express way so it is easy to get to. The rooms are very contemporary looking and very spacious. It looked like they had a lot of services available for the residents like transportation if they have doctor's appointments. The staff were very informative and able to explain the different situations and services that they provided. They also send me a monthly calendar with their activities. "

"I like Fairfield At St James. It's pleasant and welcoming. It's not a new community although there are some new buildings. There's something nice about the way it's laid out, and the clubhouse is very nice. They also have an indoor pool, an outdoor pool, a library and things like that. I like the basic feel of it. Basically they don't have a meal a day or amenities, and there are no services provided. It's just independent living. They showed me the apartment during our tour."
