"The Parkway was nice and clean. The people were very friendly, helpful, and nice. I was only there for 15 to 20 minutes. The dining area looked very clean, nice, and well kept. "

"My sister is here. So far, we're impressed with it. It's new, it's very clean, there are quite a few amenities there, and it's in a good location for her because a lot of the things she needs are just right in that area. It's located in a central location, and the staff seems to be very accommodating. She's only been there for about a month. We're pretty satisfied with it right now. The staff seem to be very friendly and accommodating. She's talked with the dietary department and maintenance. When she has questions about things she can do in the facility, she goes to the front window and talks to the staff there. So, they've been very helpful with her, very supportive. My sister seems to like the food very well. The room is a lot safer than where she'd live. It's set up according to ADA standards, so that makes it feel a lot better. It's smaller, but she has everything in there, the kitchen is just really nice, and it's a full kitchen. She has a washer and dryer in the unit, and that is very nice too. They have bingo, chair aerobics, walking clubs, and they have Bible class. Just the other day when I was there, they were taking a group of them out to the zoo, so they have outings that they can go to. When the staff leaves, they lock the doors. So you have to call up and get permission from whoever's living there to let you in, or I have a key fob so I can come in, but I like the fact that it's safe for the residents there."

"We’ve only been at Armour Oaks Senior Living for a few weeks, but it seems to be what we are looking for. It’s very large; the building is three stories and the population seems to be rather elderly. It’s a very calm, peaceful place, and the staff is excellent. We have a one-bedroom that's larger than most of them and comes complete with kitchen, washer, and dryer. There’s a good-sized dining room and living room, a small bedroom, average-sized bathroom, and sun porch, which is an extension of the main room. The food has been very good. It’s in a fairly central location with a lot of shopping around. "

"I looked at Westbrook Care Center. They were extremely nice there. They couldn't accept her because my mom needs more than assisted living. The staff is extremely friendly. It would be a good place for someone that needs assisted living. It's very clean, and it's small. The rooms are small. They showed me one of the rooms. I went in and there wasn't much to tour because it's small. They just have one main front area with the dining and then the rooms. They're a family place like the husband and wife have owned it for like 27 years, and they're family-oriented. I would recommend it for someone that just needs assisted living. I believe they were eating when we toured it and my mother-in-law said by what she saw what they were eating, they looked decent, and it looked good. The dining area was pretty plain. It's not anything fancy, but it's not anything bad. It's not over-the-top but I don't have any complaints about it by looking at it. Everything seemed like it was in good shape. The tour was just a dining room and one room. The staff was friendly and family-oriented. It's not brand new but it's decent."

"We have moved into Liberty at Shoal Creek. It's 55 plus. We chose it because it's handy for our kids and grandkids. It has a washer and dryer in the room. It has an indoor pool and hot tub. We have two bedrooms and two baths. The staff during the tour was very good and very knowledgeable. This model unit was available, so we took it. I have a full kitchen. We have to do our own meals. The dining area is big and it's on the third floor and that's the floor we're on. At 9:00 in the morning, on the first floor, they have coffee, and right now, it's mostly men, but the women are invited sometimes. They can go any time, but mostly it's men. It's a big place, and everybody seems to like it."

"The person at Primrose was nice and showed us the place. My wife really enjoyed it. They will take you any place you want to go in Kansas City, which she really liked. The rooms were all wonderful and really nice. The residents looked happy, and the staff was friendly. "

"I have just signed my papers with Englewood Vista Apartments. I like the location. It is near a little shopping center. They have a courtesy bus service that will take you to different places like Price Chopper and Walmart two or three times a week, to your appointments and different things. Any other place, you give them notice, so that you have transportation to that. Their units are small apartments. But it's all the room I need to clean up all the time. They have a community area where they have a little craft thing going on, and there are a lot of activities they do. And it seems like everybody I've met is so nice and friendly, so I like it. I'm just really impressed with it."

"I've looked at Heritage House. It's an old building. Maintenance could be better. It has a pervasive odor of cooking smells all throughout the building. The apartments are old and not terribly well-kept. I would say they were mediocre. There are not as many organized activities as we have here at this location, but they have some activities and they're on the bus route for the Independence. It stops regularly to pick up people. I didn't look into activities very thoroughly because once I saw the size of the apartments, I realized I wasn't going to be happy there. I would rate the staff a three because they didn't seem as friendly and open as I would have expected to what could have been a prospective tenant. It was more a case of "I've got other things to do, so let's get this over with so I can get back to my job." They have a very small tenant-run library. It wasn't well organized. They have a small community room. It just gives the impression of being dark and cramped. It's a big building, but they've minimized the square footage per tenant, so it just feels small."

"I found The Gardens at Northgate Village for myself. I have been here for two and a half weeks now. I have a one-bedroom. It has everything I need. I have a good-sized living room, a bar, and a kitchen. The kitchen is open to the living room. There are a lot of friendly people around here that I've already met. The laundry is not in the unit. In my case, it's across the hall, but there's no charge for anything. It has three washers and dryers, and I have no trouble with getting in there. The staff members are very friendly. They're here to serve all your needs. I'm quite pleased with the staff. They have a few activities. Just last night, they had a potluck dinner."

"Mount Washington was an old school turned into apartments. I was not able to see an apartment because they were full. They didn’t have a washer and dryer inside the units, so you have to go to the laundry room. It was nice but too closed in for me, and I wouldn't live there. They had a big auditorium with theater seats."

"Our tour of McCrite Plaza at Briarcliff was great. We spent quite a bit of time with their attendant; she was really helpful. She let us tour the entire facility. She showed us a couple of the different rooms that we are considering, and went over the pricing and everything with us. She was just really helpful the entire time. The facilities themselves were pretty much perfect for what my parents need. They had several activities that went on pretty much all day every day. They were great. The rooms themselves were pretty nice and spacious. My mom is wheelchair-bound for the most part, so one of the more important aspects was that she had enough room to maneuver her wheelchair around. The apartments seemed like they were pretty good quality, and they were exactly what we were looking for. They had more of an open concept compared to some of the other ones that we visited, which was an important aspect. We only spent a little bit of time in the cafeteria area, but based on the menu, it seemed pretty straightforward for independent living. They had any kind of a la carte menu and they had restaurant style menu. We didn't get to eat a meal there, but my mom went back at a later date and spent the whole day there. She got to tour a little more of the facility and they sat down for dinner or lunch. She told me that the food was pretty good. The staff all seemed really friendly. They all interacted with everybody in the hallways. The residents of the facility were always really happy to stop and talk to us and with the staff and everybody. It seems like a really friendly community. It seems like the staff have built those relationships that are really crucial."

"We like all the activities they have at The Fountains at Greenbriar. They were just upbeat. My parents have a one-bedroom apartment that has a full kitchen, bathroom, walk-in shower, living room and a patio outside. I know they go on a lot of trips, but my parents are older and have not cared about going into anything right now. My mom has talked about the trips they have taken every week. I know they have Bingo and other activities going on. They said the food has been good. "

"Glendale at the Mansion Apartments is a good place. I've been a little disappointed, but they had a change of hands as far as management goes so they're trying to clear up any problems that we had in the past. But as far as the apartments are, they're fine. We do all of our own in the apartments and they do the maintenance. Now that they've changed management, the staff is getting better. It was a little slow but I know they're working out and it's just getting better. The activities are organized usually by residents who have committees and they do have good things like Friday morning coffee, you know, things like that. They have different things and activities that have been helpful to get to know each other, and it's a very close community. They also have a pool, a library, and a community room where they have potlucks and other functions. They're even equipped with vending machines if somebody wants to get a snack or something. The activity is more motivated by the residents that helped do a lot of the things, everything from a movie night to whatever it may be. We have a potluck once a month, they usually furnish the meat and the residents bring the other dishes. So they usually have their hands on everything and coordinating things, but the residents do a lot of volunteer work to make things work. They're now renovating a lot. This place has been around for about 30 years now. When someone moves out, they redo the apartment as far as carpeting and paint. We have good parking, but we don't have garages. They have an exercise room where they can go or they have chair exercises for the seniors."
