The Best Independent Living Communities in Platte County, MO

"At The Wellington Senior Living, the apartments were nice and roomy enough for me. I'm just looking at a one-bedroom. They had a washer and dryer, which I wanted, and I liked their eating arrangement. I looked at their menu, and I liked the idea of not everybody eating all at the same time. I liked the restaurant-type vibe. They had exercise, a pool, and a beauty salon. It's new. It was very clean and smelled very good. The people seemed friendly enough. I didn't see very many people because I went in the afternoon and they were probably napping. I didn't see the staff much at all, but the guy that showed us around was very knowledgeable and very professional. Everything seemed pretty much up-to-date."

"The visit at The Groves was OK. It was a little bit sad because the people there have bodies that may be giving way, but they still know a lot of stuff. The staff does a lot better than the one I used to work at. The workers there used to abuse the patients. They don't do that here at the Groves. They like to read and have games and stuff like that. They also like to talk. I didn't eat there because I don't live too far. The place is really clean, and it is pretty nice. "

"I was very impressed with that facility. I saw a lot of residents out and about, and even they voluntarily told me how much they liked it. I met some of the staff, some of the cooks, stuff like that, and it just seemed like a very, very nice facility. I think other people would be very, very happy with that if they took a look at it. The staff member, she just was very friendly, very welcoming, and very informative. They had a library. It was well lit, and it was very, very attractive. It felt homey."

"Armour Oaks Senior Living's studios are pretty much like a bedroom-sized studio with a bathroom. It seemed like it was a nice campus and everybody was nice, and I talked to some of the residents and everything. So we could be leaning towards that. The staff was all very nice, and it seems like they keep it pretty clean for as old as the building is. I think it's pretty cool that it's a historic building, and I like the way the campus is set up. The residents that I spoke to, seem to be pretty content. They were very accommodating and answered any questions. They even let me take pictures of the room to show my mom and everything, so I was pretty impressed with that. There are still some questions I thought of after the fact. I filled out everything that Armour Oaks needed to start the ball rolling. I think it's pretty centrally located. I was impressed with how they spoke to me, they didn't hesitate to answer my questions, and helped me understand everything. So far, so good, from what I could see. They showed me two different rooms that my mom could stay in."

"I would give Garden Villas of Lenexa a high rating. I was just impressed. It was probably the oldest facility we saw, but it was beautiful and very well maintained. They have a gorgeous carpet on the floor that is pink and has big flowers on it. The apartments looked to be well maintained. You could have laundry in your unit for $25 extra. They gave my mom cookies to bring home, and they were hot out of the oven. They were chocolate chip, pistachio, cranberry or something like that; they tasted amazing. They were the best bakery cookies you've ever seen. They were really good. We didn't eat other food there, but it sounded like their food was good. If their food was like those cookies, the food would be pretty amazing. We met a lady who has lived there for seven years, and she said that the place is fabulous and loves it. The guy who toured us around has worked there for almost 30 years, and that's pretty amazing as well. He said that it's a great place to work and that says a lot about a place. He said the maintenance guy had been there 28 years or something too. To me, that says a lot. They had a swimming pool and outdoor spaces. The amenities were maybe smaller than some of the other places, but the outside spaces and the place looked to be very well maintained. Everybody who worked there seemed happy and engaged in what they were doing. They greeted us and were just very nice."

"The Crestone Senior Living is a very nice facility. I toured their independent living side. It's brand-new, and the staff was extremely friendly. We also ate lunch, and the food was really good. It has a lot of activities, too. The apartments are nice, but a little bit on the small side for my parents. Other than that, I think most people would find it very nice."

"I toured The Madison Senior Living. It's very close to where I live, only ten minutes south of here. With my medical conditions and doctor's appointments, I can stay in the same neighborhood because I do weekly blood work. I'm in the clinic every five weeks, but it's in an unknown area. The staff is excellent. I've been there twice for brunch, the food is great, and the living quarters are a brand-new facility. It's only been open for four years, but I've talked to lots of staff and members who have lived there short term and long term, and they all love it. They all don't have anything bad to say about it. They have an indoor heated pool that I can use because I have arthritis and can do exercises in the pool that help me. All around, it's just a good fit for me. I just like it. It's a very clean facility. I've toured 2 or 3 different types of apartments there, and they're all beautiful, and gorgeous. It's spotless and has a very welcoming atmosphere. All the tenants I talked to are very friendly and say, 'I hope you come and join us.' They have the same basic amenities as most of the other places. They have shuttles to take you to appointments; if you don't like it, they have all scheduled shopping trips. They have a library, a game room, and a TV room. There are all kinds of things and activities to do, but my energy level is pretty low most of the time."

"We thought The Parkway was very nice. It was clean and attractive, and the people were very friendly. We went into one apartment, and I really liked the size of the bathroom because you could get a wheelchair in there, turn it around easily, and then take it back out. It's very close to where we're living right now, so it would be easier for our daughter to visit and help us. Also, we're familiar with all of the surroundings and where we normally shop; it's all close, so we liked that. We had one meal there, and the food was very good. It looked like they had a lot of activities scheduled, but we didn't get involved with any. "

"I toured The Village at Olathe. The people who toured me around were very, very nice. I didn't particularly like the location, but it wasn't anything specific to where it was. I didn't like independent living, and the parking situation was not the best. The rooms were a little small, but they were nice. One thing that it did not have much of was closet space. The closet space was minimal. However, their dining area was nice and beautiful, and they have a nice library, a game room, an exercise room, and all that. That was all OK. It's just the location, and the parking situation wasn't good at all."

"We visited Primrose, and we loved everything. I liked the staff's friendliness. They were very nice. People came and started greeting my dad, talked to us, and showed us different places. I liked that they do background checks and drug screening on their staff. I liked the cleanliness of the place and the accommodation. The rooms had different sizes. They had brand new carpets and kitchen appliances. Everything had wide doors, which were really easy to access. The elevator was really clean. The only thing that they don't have was a 24/7 manager on-site. The food was very nice. They don't have a buffet type, which was OK because people sometimes might just put in their hands or fingers and not spoons. They had a restaurant style and had waiters serving the tables. Even though they had the menu for the day, the residents could still order what they wanted. They had deserts that were sugar-free, but I tried them and they were excellent. My dad was very happy with it and he liked it. The chef came out and talked to him, and when he asked for something different, the served it to him on the spot. He could eat whatever he wanted. They were still finishing some remodeling and adding more things, including an outpatient rehab center, and they could come and have some physical rehab there. They are not on their own there when they exercise or use the equipment, so they won't get hurt. They had a barbershop, and I really liked that. They added assisted living in the place. So, they could stay there if they needed to stay for assisted living. "

"I visited Connect55+ Kansas City and saw their independent living. I only got to see one room though, it was on the third floor, it had a nursing home smell, and I didn't like it. They do have a washer and dryer in each apartment. The person who showed me around was really nice. The landscaping on the outside was very nice too. It's a brick building and I was impressed with that. The day I went for a visit, I talked to one of the residents there, a lady, and she told me all about it. She said she's lived there for 5 or 6 years and she loved it. They don't have food except for Wednesday nights when they serve dinner with wine and beer."

"I have just signed my papers with Englewood Vista Apartments. I like the location. It is near a little shopping center. They have a courtesy bus service that will take you to different places like Price Chopper and Walmart two or three times a week, to your appointments and different things. Any other place, you give them notice, so that you have transportation to that. Their units are small apartments. But it's all the room I need to clean up all the time. They have a community area where they have a little craft thing going on, and there are a lot of activities they do. And it seems like everybody I've met is so nice and friendly, so I like it. I'm just really impressed with it."
