I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother-in-law stayed at Aston Gardens at Pelican Marsh. It is a clean facility. My mother-in-law was safe. But she was left in her own clothes, soiled for days or weeks. The director talked very poorly about my mother-in-law and said things about her that were not true. She did not receive the proper care that we felt she needed. They did not engage them in some activities. We toured different facilities, and saw what was available and how a well-run memory care facility was compared to what she was receiving. That was when we realized that she was not receiving that level of care. They have one room to go eat. There was one incident where I saw two ladies getting aggressive with one another. Nobody was there to monitor and break up the disagreement or whatever was happening. There was nobody supervising the floor. My mother-in-law had mashed potatoes all over her shirt, and they were dried. They had been there for a while. Nobody tried to change her. Nobody recognized it. If we needed something, we had to go find them. They just made sure that they were fed and safe, and that was it. They need more staff who care about their patients. They need more activities. They just need to be kind. They either need to increase their wages to attract people who are more skilled or provide more training, because the level of care is subpar.

We chose Aston Gardens at Pelican Marsh because they had many things we wanted, it was in a good location, and it had a low entry fee of only $4,000. It was very clean and very nice. We've eaten dinner there several times and they have a social hour. The staff was helpful and friendly.

We signed a contract for Aston Gardens at Pelican Marsh. It's something we can afford, and we liked what we saw. There's a library, a theater, a swimming pool, and an exercise room. The bills are included in your rent. The person that we have the most contact with is Darlene, and she answered all our questions. We met the director of the whole facility, and he was very kind and helpful in answering our questions. We met the chef that is the head of the restaurant and the preparation of the meals, and we met the exercise woman who gives advice and helps in the exercise room as to what is most beneficial. They're undergoing some renovations.

I've visited Aston Gardens at Pelican Marsh and it was pretty good. It's a broad facility and it's like an apartment complex, it's not just one monolithic structure. The tour was excellent, the staff was friendly, and the person I dealt with was very good. It was nice, though the actual room floor plan wasn't as nice as the other place I saw. This one is my second choice. They had excellent transportation for their residents, like for doctors' appointments. The facilities were better than the other place. They had a couple of dining areas and the workout facility was nice. One thing I was looking for was the exercise programs they provide. The only thing I didn't like was if I am in independent living and I needed assistance, I'd have to relocate to the facility that provided that, which is the next building over. It's going to be on an adjacent campus.

In early 2022 we left a deposit of $1000 to insure we would be notified of a vacancy for our desired accomodations. We have subsequently asked for a return of this deposit and have been given excuses for several months and now our calls are not being returned.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother is in Aston Gardens at Pelican Marsh. They've pretty much overpromised and underdelivered. I think that they just got inundated with a huge amount of seniors and they weren't prepared for it. I think that it was not necessarily all their fault, given the situation with COVID and a lot of people changing jobs and changing careers and not being able to hire the proper staff. One of the things that bothered my mom is that they only provide transportation to the "popular church of choice," which ends up not being my mom's choice. She sold her car when she moved there. We didn't think that she would need to have a car anymore because transportation was being provided to her when she only needed to go to church and go to the grocery store. The whole church thing has been a huge disappointment to her. The other thing is they used to allow residents to keep their bicycles or adult three-wheeled bikes in the front of the apartment buildings. The actual residents who live there decided that they didn't want the bikes in front of the apartments anymore. They only found two spots within the community to stick them in like a carport, which made it pretty inconvenient for those who didn't live across the street or across the way from that particular carport in that building and would have to walk quite a ways to go get their bike. If somebody is in their mid-eighties, that's a huge issue. They were supposed to have a variety of things on their menu, and they don't have that. My mom has not seen a rotation in the menu yet, but I also know that they're short-staffed due to the pandemic and people moving into other careers and whatnot. They are struggling and they could have a nice place there, but they don't have the help. They're not staffed properly to do so. They're working on it, which is what I'm told, but when you're 80-something years old, you don't want to hear, "Oh, yeah, we're working on it. We're doing the best that we can." She lives in a one-bedroom, one-bath, so it makes more sense to have a Jack and Jill kind of bathroom so that the person can access the bathroom from the bedroom versus having to go out into the living room to be able to enter the bathroom. They have a great social activities calendar, a hair salon right there on the premises, and the clubhouse is great. The residents are all very nice and friendly. It's more of a management issue. They need to just be more honest with the residents about their shortcomings, rather than saying, "Oh, yeah, we're working on it, this is a great place to live in," like really building that sales hype because as a family, that's what sold us. Then after getting involved, it just became kind of a disappointment. Once you move your 85-year-old mother in there, it makes it difficult to end up uprooting her again and moving her someplace else.

We chose Aston Gardens at Pelican Marsh. It was very welcoming and Julie who handled the sales was delightful. The rooms were lovely. They provide two meals a day, breakfast and lunch or breakfast and dinner. They have a library, a card room, a theater, a barbershop, a beauty shop, and a gym. They have every kind of amenity that you could ask for including a chipping green. It's perfectly located for us. It was central to everything that we do. Overall, we were very pleased with the rates and everything. They offered just absolutely everything that a person could ask for. You have housekeeping and transport service. They even actually change your sheets on your bed and wash and fold your sheets. It's perfect for us as independent livers because we don't need assistance right now, but they also can move you from independent to assisted.

Assisted Living at Aston Gardens has turned into a nightmare. Things were going downhill, and then all the managers left in Sept/Oct 2021. The director or AL, the Director of Nursing and Wellness, the Memory Care director, the Activities Director. Then almost all of the care givers. Some were not great to begin with but some were. There is a new director now but there is virtually no staff. They constantly have caregivers from temp agencies who don’t know what they’re doing and do not know the residents. And not enough help. Mom is often left languishing in the morning with no one to help her get dressed and to breakfast. It has been a constant battle. They won’t pay what they need to for full time help. We hate to have to move mom who has Alzheimer’s because of this. We have had multiple conversations with upper management to no avail. I am stressed out everyday trying to get mom the basic care we signed up for. It’s a nightmare.

We toured the assisted living and independent living of Aston Gardens at Pelican Marsh. It was pretty. It looked very well-tended. The people looked very well-tended. One of the things I liked was, if you need a ride to another part of the campus, someone in a golf cart comes and picks you up and takes you there. It was very pretty, it was bright, and it was spotless. It didn't look like an old people's home. The staff who toured me was very knowledgeable and very nice. The whole place was lovely. It was very homey. They do housekeeping.

I chose Aston Gardens at Pelican Marsh. I thought they had a very caring and compassionate staff. They had everything that I was looking for including the location and the price point. Their room sizes were good. They had tons of activities. It's an older facility, and they're working on renovations right now. They need some updating. I had to get home, but they gave me dinner to try; it was excellent.

I like Aston Gardens at Pelican Marsh. I thought it was very good. The rooms were bigger than any others that I saw. I didn't care for the meal plan too much. The staff was very nice. I looked at their menu; it had a variety to it, and it looked like it was quality food. They had full amenities. They had everything. It was a very comprehensive location. They had continental breakfast and either lunch or dinner. They only had one meal a day. It was a good experience.

I was very attracted to Aston Gardens at Pelican Marsh. There were two things that kept me from saying, "This is the place" though. One of them was the room. They have one-bedrooms, studios, and two-bedrooms. The two-bedroom was nice, but I thought the one-bedroom was horrible looking. It's really boxy, dark, and small. The studio was better; I liked that better. The fact that they have had the same staff there for a long time, the very low turnover, was an exciting thought to me. The only other thing that I was a little bit less happy about was this building that we walked into. It looked very nice and attractive, but it's not attached to the residences. It's like a clubhouse for I don't know who, and I thought it was really like the most attractive part of the place. I think the place had a lot of possibilities but it seemed like the big, beautiful building was not accessible to the residents. I think the independent people get access to the nice place, but the assisted living people do not, and that's weird. There were a lot of people walking around, and they had their masks on. I met residents and they were up and were interacting, so I thought that's a nice thing. The lady who helped was really nice, she was terrific. I really liked her.

My mom is moving into Aston Gardens at Pelican Marsh. It is close to where she lives; my brothers and sisters are still here in Naples so it is a lot closer, and that was a big thing. They have room service, linen service, and concierge service. She got a bedroom with a den and another half bath and that was another big plus. We just happened to catch a special they were having, which is over $1000 less a month. The visit was limited with the virus, but the lady actually brought food over here while they were talking, and the food was good. We met two people and they were very nice. They just remodeled everything, it's all brand new.

We found Aston Gardens At Pelican Marsh for our loved one. It's been great, everyone's been very helpful and friendly with helping my dad get acclimated, and everyone's been great. Everyone's been very helpful with everybody and they're very friendly. No matter the position of the staff member, they'll go out of their way to help the residents and the families. I tasted the food and it's good. In fact, the chef sat down with my dad to see what his food preferences are, and so they've been helpful in that way as well. The dining area is under construction right now. They recently re-opened the pool, so they have water aerobics, they have a little putting green, they have bingo, painting, and exercises.

The rooms at Aston Gardens at Pelican Marsh were nice and large, and they have good views. The grounds are just okay, they're not great. The only problem is that everything is separated like the memory care, assisted living and independent living are all separated. In order to get dinner or lunch or whatever, you have to call a trolley, and the trolley would come and pick you up or drop you off. And when you have to leave the dining room or any of the activities, or anything that takes place in the main building, you would have to take the trolley back and that's a big detriment. The main building is where all the activities and the dining room is.

Turnover of management is a big issue together with a lower sense of professionalism. Seem to elevate telephone operators to management positions within short period and little to no education behind them. I say there are better facilities in the area that should be looked at for the money !!!!!!! Last year during hurricane season the residents were without electric for 4 days !!!!!!

The gentleman who took me on the tour of Aston Gardens at Pelican Marsh was very nice. It's an older facility, but it's quite well thought of. However, when you're living in Florida, there's high humidity. Their living spaces were nice, but not as nice as some of the others. I noticed that when you enter the building, it smelled musty. I think part of it is the fact that the doors open and close and it is hard to air-condition the hallways. Going into an apartment, you don't smell it, but it is unpleasant when you walk into the building. It smelled old and musty. Part of the building did not have the smell, but the other part did. They assured me that there's no mold, mildew, or anything like that. I think it's maybe because of the older equipment there.

Aston Gardens was a beautiful place, but my mom feels that it might cost them too much money. The community was excellent and offered assisted living, memory care, and individually owned and rentable condos. We went to a brunch there and spoke with the residents. They liked it very much. The people who facilitated the brunch were very nice.

Aston Gardens at Pelican Marsh was campus-style and very nice. They were very helpful. They had a bus that brought people to Wal-Mart or doctors' appointments. I excluded it because the size of the place was too big. They do crafts. They had dinner and offered a second meal. The hallways in the common areas leading to the facility seemed older than the unit themselves.

Aston Gardens at Pelican Marsh is a very good place. The room is great. Mom has been there for a couple of months, and she is happy. The place is not too large, so there's more individualized attention. They have tea parties, Hawaiian themed parties, church services, bingo, and trips. They have a putting green and a pool.

We are new residents (4 weeks tomorrow) and our initial impression was not positive. On our first day in the apartment we found 4 problems which should have been found on a careful "walkthrough" by staff. It has taken almost 4 weeks to correct them. We have received no verbal introduction to the community . We were handed a manual to read.. The reception we have received from other residents has been great. The food is much better than we would have expected. At this point, despite the initial negative experiences, we are happy to be in Aston Gardens at Pelican Marsh.

They are big on promises and very small on follow through. You may well be lied to. The food is just horrid. Often just can not stomach it. Complaining just gets you labeled a "troublemaker". Covered parking exists but it is so filthy and bug infested that it is disgusting just to get to your car - and it costs extra for filthy covered parking. We have lived here for about two years and we are looking for other quarters. Move here and you will be sorry. Strongly suggest you look elsewhere!

My parents stayed at Aston Gardens before. The place was huge and fabulous, and the rooms were gorgeous. I only moved my mom because they didn't have memory care available at the time. She was there for two and a half years. They were independent, and then they were assisted. My dad passed away, and I wanted a smaller apartment because they had a huge 2-bedroom apartment. I moved mom to a studio. However, she had wandered out of the building, and they locked it down. The reason she wandered out at 1:30 in the morning was that she was trying to find her independent living apartment. They said I needed to get her a night sitter. So, I moved her. The set up was beautiful, but I wish their memory care was larger. I just wish the activities director would come and get the people for activities because people forget. They gave them a calendar, but a lot of people forget to go to the activities, and the activities were great there. They had music every week, and they had a guy that would come in and do music. They also had bingo, puzzles, and crafts. The staff there was fabulous. They were top-notch. The chef came over from the Ritz Carlton, and they had lobster every Saturday night. It was not inexpensive, but it was well worth it. It was a great place, and I would highly recommend it, but they had a huge waiting list. It was one of a few places I saw for the decent price that had a two-bedroom apartment with a great room and assisted living. You just do not find that. That was amazing, and it was lovely.

We went to Aston Gardens. It’s massive, and it seems that there are 2 buildings, one for the assisted living and then a separate unit for memory care and in the middle is the entertainment part -- the lobby -- where they would gather for activities like happy hour and all those things. The main lobby was quite impressive, but the room areas weren’t so impressive. The door of the room locks you in the bathroom. It had very narrow hallways -- almost like a dorm or a nursing home. They didn’t serve us food, but they had little packets of cookies to give us. The person introducing was very capable and gave us a lot of information. The staff who gave us the tour was very gracious. It was active, and they have things that I -- as a community person -- could attend: lectures and things that I never knew or heard about. I had a sense of a very well balanced presentation of activities.

I have a friend who lives at Aston Gardens at Pelican Marsh. She has been there for six years and she is very, very happy. I have visited there several times and spoken to Peggy. I am very impressed with everything that I have seen there. They have been very cooperative and she keeps in touch with me as far as when she thinks I will be able to get in there. I looked in a couple of the rooms where they had the art room and I noticed there was a puzzle in one of the rooms that people were working on, but nobody was in the room at that time. I was impressed with the library. At the assisted living area, I know that nobody could get out without somebody observing them. As far as the independent living area, there was certainly no drive through there. You come in and there is a gate. During the day the gate is open so you can come in, but I'm unsure about in the evening.

Overall very pleasant, good amenities, including shuttle services and walking paths. Staff evinced a notable security and safety interest in well-being of residents, even exceedingly difficult ones. Food seemed bland cafeteria level but with fancy and interesting sounding names. I think this was deliberate tuning/marketing to simultaneously engage and comfort the residents, rather at the expense of visitors such as myself. Plant physical maintenance/repair seemed good, although not as adept as I might have expected from construction workers elsewhere. Appearance maintenance and gardening was excellent as seemed housekeeping and sanitation. Medical care and supervision in the higher care area also was excellent, despite EXTREME provocation. Management's interest in the facility and its overall upkeep was very good in my estimate.
