My tour of South Oaks ALF was informative. It's a home with bedrooms that was transformed into a facility. It's just a basic accommodation with enough room for a twin bed and a dresser. They had a small dining area and a small patio outside.

I had the occasion to assist with placing a client in this facility when she was no longer able to live alone safely. I had never heard of this facility or visited it. It is in a residential neighborhood and a home that has been converted into an assisted living facility. I met the owner who welcomed me and introduced me to her "beauties". The home is smaller and caters to a group of senior ladies. They go on weekly trips to the beauty parlor, they have been to theme parks and the local beaches. The ladies I met seemed very happy to be there. It has a very homey and familial atmosphere. Because it is a smaller facility, the residents get more direct care from staff. I had the opportunity to speak with residents who had been there for a longer period of time. They raved how much it felt like a family to them and they would never want to go anyplace else.

I visited this facility a few times because my mother's friend was staying there. The staff was great with the patients and were always there if anyone needed them. They planned activities for the residents and had a lot of programs for them to keep them occupied. They had plenty of snacks and prepared meals fresh daily and made sure that every resident was catered to as needed.

I graduated in Miramar a few years ago. And then my stepmother could no longer care for herself. I live in Miramar and it's a good thing South Oaks is just down the block from where I live, not too far from North Perry airport. This way, I can easily visit my stepmother when ever I want. Me and my stepmother are close, and often visit South Oaks daily. The place is very nice, it almost feels like home. South Oaks assist with bathing, dressing, laundry, meals, and transportation. The thing I like most about this place is that they allow residents to have a roommate, if only I too were a senior, I'd take advantage of that. They have 24 hour emergency care also, so I don't have to worry about her not being monitored. I recommend South Oaks if you live in Miramar, FL. Come check these guys out.
