The Woodlake

I toured The Woodlake's memory care. It had a lot of opportunities to it, being a one-bedroom or a private room. It was good. The staff was knowledgeable. It was clean. It was desirable to be in a one-bedroom with really nice scenery.

I went to see The Woodlake. It's a really nice place here in Sacramento. It's new, it's an assisted living facility, and it was excellent. It was beautiful and I loved it, including the tour and everything about it. I would love to have my mom in a place like that. They have a full-time chef who prepares all the meals. The studio apartment that they showed me would have been perfect for my mom. It was nice and had a huge walk-in bathroom with a shower where she could wheel her wheelchair in. It was, hands down, a five-star place. The staff members were excellent. They are very accommodating, and they took the time to do the tour. Everybody was really nice.

We went to The Woodlake. The place was clean, welcoming, bright and cheerful, and everything. The manager took the time to explain the process to us and the different resources and different things that we should be looking for. And even though he said he would love to help us, he told us to maybe consider something closer to our home.

The Woodlake is an excellent facility. If I was picking on the building itself I might have chosen this over the other one, because it's practically brand new and everything is really nice. However, we also have some concerns about the place. Income was definitely a big factor in choosing, and at the Woodlake we would only be able to afford the studio. They had several different studios, but they were smaller than the other place. The deal breaker was they had no protected outdoor space. It was open to the neighborhood. The neighborhood was one that was liked, light industrial with a lot of medical facilities, and we saw homeless people walking around just right on the sidewalk immediately outside the building. If the resident wanted to be outside, somebody could have just knocked them down and stolen a wallet. I only interacted with one staff member. We actually liked her very, very much.

The Woodlake is a great place. The residents are very nice and the staff is amazing. My mom's room is just perfect for her. They help her keep it clean. The dining area is very good. They have an accomplished chef and they're cooking her meals every day. She's very happy with the food. They have cooking classes, sewing classes, and an exercise room. They have grounds where she can walk, a movie theater, they always have happy hour and a bunch of activities for her. The outdoor spaces are very nice. It's not very big, but it's perfect for her to go out and walk around and hang out outside. They take great care of her. So, they do a great job.
