My mom and I settled on Del Mar Park more than 10 years ago (when it was Chancellor Place). Denise, the Administrator understood my mom right away and adjusted her level of care and delivered the day-to-day support that gave her the consistency, healthcare support and quality of life that earned my trust and gratitude. The nursing and support staff are exceptional in their commitment to the health and well-being of the residents. And my mom wasn't always the easiest personality to please.

We checked out Del Mar Park, and all 3 of us children were absolutely blown away by the attention of the three women who interviewed us. I first met with a lady by the name of Paula. When I called her because I wanted to check out the facility, she was the one who did the initial interview. They were still under COVID or quarantined restrictions. Pasadena was very strict in letting people in, so we met out on the patio. We wanted to see more of the area. Two weeks later we were the first ones able to actually go into the community areas, since the restrictions were somewhat lifted in Pasadena. The woman we met there was in charge of nursing, and then we met with Diane, who oversees the whole facility or the administrator. They were just outstanding as far as wanting to know mom. They all met with us. They wanted to meet her and really come to understand what her needs were. They wanted to know what we were looking for, and they were taking notes during the interview. We had no doubt in our mind that the care my mother would get in that facility would be outstanding. They helped us and worked with us financially for my mother's budget, and I would give them ten stars for that. The apartments were being remodeled, so I didn't get to see them in their final state. We saw the library and the dining area.

Del Mar Park was clean and nice. The residents were playing cards. The rooms were decorated nicely. They were spacious and clean. The staff was very nice. The dining area looked elegant. It wasn't just a dining room; it looked nice. I didn't speak to too many staff members, but the one I did was OK.

We found Del Mar Park for Mom and Dad. It's in a very prestigious area close to everything. The building is a little dated and holds around 50 to 55 residents. It's inexpensive compared to others, but they've had some issues and were reprimanded by the health department for scabies. They had basic activities, like bingo, chair yoga, and trips to the museum. I don't like the food, and my parents hate the food, so they have a refrigerator in their pantry; they only pick and choose that they like. They need to improve their menu and in hiring more staff because they're not able to do everything.

We went with Del Mar Park. What was important to us was that it is close to the family. It is nice and clean. The staff is very nice, but the turning point for that is the location. They have bingo and movie nights. They have several activities. They have a craft room there. Del Mar Park is nice and clean, and it is close by, so this is where we brought our aunt.

Del Mar Park is more of an assisted living place, so they don’t take care of people with Alzheimer’s or severe dementia. It just wasn’t the right place for my mom anymore. Nevertheless, my mom was there for about nine years, and the staff was very attentive. The rooms were all nice, all private rooms. My mom really enjoyed staying there. They had lots of activities, like field trips, crafts, and people coming in as entertainment. They had a pretty full calendar. The food was good, too.
