"My mother-in-law is at Bay Harbor Memory Care & Assisted Living. I know she gets good care there, but to me for being there, it could be a little bit cleaner. It's not a place where I would have my mother, but my mother-in-law is there. I'm not the one that put her there; my sister-in-law and husband did. It was one they could find at the time that would take her. My mother-in-law got one of the bigger rooms. It's not too bad. For her, it's okay. I have no idea if they have activities or not because all I see is the staff that's there. The dining area is not as nice. It's an older place, too. In terms of value for money, my mother-in-law pays more than my mother does, so I would say it's kind of overrated. To me, it's pretty high there."

"The Sylvan Crossings at Hunter Ridge assisted living facility in gorgeous Beaver Dam, Wisconsin was one of the places we saw while looking in the region for our uncle. The lovely exterior looked like other resorts in the area, with beautifully landscaped grounds and tree-lined walkways.The staff was kind and caring to all of the residents that we saw -- of varying capabilities. The communal rooms included a lovely library and the ability for seniors to participate in a number of stimulating activities. The exercise center includes daily yoga and aerobics classes. The equipment is available throughout the day and they receive assistance whenever necessary. The residents may also safely navigate the lovely grounds for exercise. The food we saw looked and smelled delicious. The menus all had healthy food options for all kinds of diets. Healthy snacks are offered all day and into the evening, as well as whenever residents request them. The dining room was quite nice, with plenty of space. The living spaces were generous, with plenty of space to house seniors' cherished possessions.The many planned activities feature everything from exercise classes to book readings and arts and crafts. The residents are taken to many interesting cultural events in the region. Weather permitting, they go on nature walks to enjoy all that Beaver Dam has to offer. It was clear that all of the residents' needs are met here. The decor of the entire facility was really fresh and bright. The staff was also exceptionally attentive -- and we could see how any senior would really enjoy living in this environment they consider their home. "

"I went here. They were not able to take my mom because she needed just a step up of level than what they could offer. They didn't have to be, but they went above and beyond to help me find a place for my mom. The staff was just amazing. They showed me the facility and then they showed me two rooms, one unfurnished and one furnished. It was very clean. If I could, I would've moved mom in there. The rooms were huge. The outdoor spaces were nice. They had a beauty salon, a movie room, arts and crafts room, and a socializing area. It was very nice."

"My father fits in very well at Prairie Gardens. He is in an apartment, and it's very nice and very clean. It's roomy enough. It has a kitchenette, a living area, and then a bedroom. The facility seems to be very clean, and I know the cleaning staff comes through a couple of times a day. The staff are all very good. I have been there while he is eating, and the dining room is very nice and very clean. The food has been very good. "

"My husband moved to Oak Park Place two months ago. He thinks it's wonderful there; he enjoys it and he thinks the food is good. He said the food is always too much. When I was there it was always nice, clean, and quiet. The only negative thing is it's very hard to park there when visiting someone. It's not as new, but he likes it very much and his room is exceptionally large. It has a walk-in closet, a living room, and a bedroom. "

"We went to look here, and it was beautiful inside. It was close to the capital drive, so I was concerned about the noise and stuff, but I didn't hear anything inside. They have different levels of care. Everything was so well done and pretty. It looks like a nice place to be. They have a washer and dryer. The staff who gave us a tour was very nice and showed us every option. The facility was super clean. The dining room was very nice."

"The exterior of the Hearthside assisted living facility resembled an English Tudor mansion. We decided to stop in while in the area looking at places for our uncle to live. The outdoor included a courtyard, gazebo and a lovely covered patio for enjoying the outside area. The open dining room featured a beautiful and warm fireplace - much like you would see in a cabin-like homestyle restaurant. It was a very nice touch and really made the space feel comfortable. The food smelled and looked really delicious and we could see that it as prepared in a healthful manner. The menus included a variety of healthy food options for all diets. Healthy snacks were offered often and whenever the seniors desire them. The furnishings and decor of the entire interior was really lovely with plenty of seating areas to enjoy throughout and lots of nice natural light and fresh air. There were spacious communal areas included rooms for crafts, reading, games, church services and more. We saw seniors comfortably socializing, playing games, watching TV and the event calendar featured many other stimulating activities to participate in. The private rooms featured plenty of space in nicely decorated surroundings. All had a great deal of natural light and fresh air with very comfortable furniture. Seniors can safely walk around the grounds for exercise, and use the exercise room. Exercise classes are offered regularly. The residents also go on many trips in the region and surrounding areas. They take advantage of all of the cultural offerings as well as eat at the many casual and fine dining establishments. The staff easily accommodates all levels of ambulation with kindness and caring. All of the residents looked like they enjoy their living environment very much "

"My mom is in The View at Johnson Creek. This is her second week now. What I like is certainly their bigger rooms. The facility itself seems nicer compared to other places. In terms of quality, it was certainly higher up there. Prices are somewhat competitive, too. The outdoor space is not as good as the majority of the other places. They are actually on top of a hill in a relatively new subdivision, so they don't have a lot of outdoor space. The staff all seem pleasant. I don't know what they're like when it's just her alone; but when I'm there, they all seem pleasant and helpful. My mom has complained about the food, but I haven't tried it. That has been her one complaint so far. The place is very clean and nice. They have activities. It was probably on par with other places I've looked at."

"My sister loves being in Sylvan Crossings at Jefferson. The staff there is super, and they have really nice staff. She also loves the meals and loves that they have game times. She's really happy there. They are very helpful, and anything she needs is right there. We are very pleased with the staff members. If you have any questions you can just call or stop by. They're really great. She's got a pretty good-sized room, she has her own bathroom, a big closet, and two windows in her room. It's really nice and clean, they cleaned everything, and got everything in the bathroom setup before she moved in. She gets three meals a day, snacks twice a day, and she wears a life alert so if she wants a cup of coffee later they bring it to her. Next weekend they have Elvis Presley impersonators coming there to entertain them. The living room has a piano for anyone there who plays. They have a dining room you can use if your family members want to come and have a birthday party for you, they have a little refrigerator in there, and a coffee machine. They have sitting areas out on the front porch, and umbrellas in the yard if they want to sit out there. They do their laundry every Friday, they pick it up from her room, wash and dry it, and bring it back."

"While in the area, we happened upon Twin Rivers Assisted Living. We had been visiting other facilities around the region to consider for our aunt. We were glad that we didn't need an appointment to take a tour. The staff was welcoming and the outside grounds were nicely kept, with plenty of seating areas. Residents were encouraged to walk around regularly as they desire and supervision is always available. The indoors had a nice library area and a large room for other activities, such as board games and other stimulating activities. The facility and staff are equipped to handle our aunt's early Alzheimer's "“ so that was a relief for us. She really enjoys going out "“ and the list of activities included everything from local shopping, beauty salon and entertainment trips "“ to special events held at their facility and others. We liked the exercise room where they had yoga mats and machines. They also have scheduled classes for those who are interested. We happened to be there when they were offering some really good snacks. Despite the fact that the snacks were made to be healthy, they all looked really tasty. The dining room was really lovely "“ as were all the adjacent communal areas. The lunch meal we saw, as well as the menus, looked really appetizing. This facility was really well appointed, designed and had kind and caring staff to assist the residents in having a vibrant life. "

"I went to look at Heritage Homes. The apartments were very nice. It just seemed to have everything that hopefully my mom would want. We only met the lady who toured us. She was very thorough and very accommodating. They have followed up with us to know if there was anything else that they could do. They do not serve food for independent living. They have a kitchen facility if you want to have a gathering or anything like that, but they do not serve meals. In the apartments themselves, they had a washer, dryer, stove, refrigerator, air conditioning, and walk-in bath. The only thing they didn't have was a dishwasher. They have a community room and little rooms here and there with little fireplaces where you can sit and gather. They had a workshop room where you could do crafts and things like that. They had an underground garage. Each room has its own furnace. They had a fitness room and a chapel."

"Highland House had units for low income people. This place had three different plans. They also offered transit, like bus service to the grocery stores and back. They also had a beautiful lounge right on the premises, and she likes it. It was also right across the street from the hospital. So everything you would be looking for is close and convenient. The staff was very informative and polite. What I really liked about the staff was that she talked to my mom and not to me. When I go looking with an elderly person to these places, they talk to me and ignore her, and she's the one who was going to live there. However, this lady, the first thing she asked my mom was, "What are you looking for?" It just started out really well, and the lady continued to talk to her. I liked that. I thought that was good. My mom was looking for an affordable two-bedroom unit so she could have some room. We saw some of the rooms, and when they had new tenants, they replaced the carpet. So, a new person has a new carpet. Then they paint it and it is very clean. The whole place was very clean and kept up. They have a community room, but they don't offer food service yet, and they said that might be something in the future. "
