"It’s a pleasure to give the highest possible recommendation to Danbury Senior Living in Wooster, Ohio. My mother, who is 97, has been a resident there for a year, and the living environment, excellent care, and general sense of being a home-like environment, have more than exceeded our expectations.
To begin with, upon entering Danbury’s beautiful building, people are greeted with bright, sunny, well-furnished community rooms and corridors. The community rooms where residents dine, sit together in living rooms, or enjoy special events in The Bistro, are designed to created a real sense of community. The corridors are spacious and welcoming, and they’re comfortable spots where patients and families can stop to chat and visit, much the way they would when they see friends in a neighborhood.
There are a variety of apartments, so that residents can choose the space and the number of rooms they need in order to be at home. My mother lives in a lovely studio, with an L-shaped entryway and kitchenette, and a living area that accommodates a dining room table, desk, sofa and chairs, as well as twin bed and dresser.
Most beautiful is the wide window in her apartment, positioned so my mother can enjoy the seasonal changes of the abutting gardens, and the bird life flitting among the tree and shrubs.
However, it’s not just the beauty and comfort of the spaces that makes Danbury special. It’s the compassionate and excellent care my mother receives from all the staff. The staff members make a point of reaching out to each and every resident, learning about their needs, their lives in general, and finding ways to help them feel at home. For example, when I’m visiting my mother there have been staff members who tell me they enjoy when Mom talks about her childhood home and stories she cherishes. Mom feels “seen” and valued by such aides and nurses. Mom is treated expertly, with respect, and warmth.
Recently we planned a birthday open house for my mother at Danbury’s Bistro. The aides and social coordinators set up the room with festive table cloths and paper goods, as well as a variety of ice creams. After I brought in the cake I was free to mingle with Mom’s friends, and to help Mom simply enjoy the celebration.
Many visitors commented on how welcoming the place seemed.
Often when I call to speak with my mother, the aides tell me she’s at exercise class, or game time, or just walking to the atrium to view the birds. My mother enjoys the activities and the people. She loves to tell me about a new friend she visits daily when she’s walking, so that they can share poems they recall.
Even during difficult moments — medical events or other periods of need — the staff is outstanding. They communicate regularly, and they’re excellent at managing difficulties in a consultative manner with me and with Mom’s doctors.
In short, I know that residents who live at Danbury, and their families who need to trust their care to Danbury, experience a beautiful, comfortable, and caring home during a period which would otherwise be challenging.
I’m grateful for Danbury Senior Living, and I offer my strongest recommendation."
