Home to more than 33,000 seniors and some of the best biking trails in the nation, Madison is a fantastic place for active seniors with a strong cultural interest to retire. The state capital is home to the University of Wisconsin, which offers both the Badger State’s best hospital system and the Wisconsin Badgers college varsity teams, several of which offer discounted tickets for seniors. Metro Transit offers bus service around the city, and seniors pay half-price for a ride. Many engaging events and activities are available at the Madison Senior Center, and the city offers numerous free cultural opportunities, including the Chazen Museum of Art, the Wisconsin Veterans Museum and the walking trails of the University of Wisconsin’s Arboretum.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
