October 7, 2024 I recently moved into Aljoya Thornton Place (on May 1 this year) and I feel like I could already write a book about all the wonderful people and awesome experiences I’ve had here. The staff is terrific and helpful for making people feel welcome and settled here. On the first day, I met most of the staff as they came by to say “hi” and when we parted, to a person, each one said “Welcome home!” That was very comforting after leaving my home of 30 years. They also help everyone get settled in to their apartments and they help us go on outiings—after we sign up for an outing, they call and remind us that we signed up. I appreciate that the residents here have made me feel included and helped me get to know other residents. Many residents have called me and we have made arrangements to go to meals together and go to events together. I can go down to dinner by myself and our dining room manager will find someone(s) for me to sit with so I can get to know more people. Or if I want to sit and read during a meal, he will find me a quiet table to do that. And we have the most beautiful patio with amazing flowers and plants that I have seen at any retirement community I’ve visited (and they are all beautiful). Also, the food is outstanding and the serving staff is awesome. We can eat in the dining room and also in our apartments depending on which works better for us on each given day. And there are 3 meals a day plus we have all kinds of special events that include food. Our Life Enrichment staff has so many activities we can participate in. There are lectures, music performances, theatrical plays, symphony performances, games (bridge, Scrabble, Rummikub, Canasta, Pinochle, etc.). There is also exercise (Enhanced fitness, yoga, healing harmony, water aerobics, brain games, qi gong) available for all levels on every day, except maybe Sunday. We are encouraged to participate and also to suggest things that we would like to see on the Life Enrichment calendar. Many of the activities are in-house and there are many that are off-site that we are provided transportation to and from. I really appreciate the emphasis and focus on ecologically friendly practices here at Aljoya. We have an active reduce/reuse/recycle program here in an ongoing attempt to completely eliminate trash. Water bottle use is encouraged and water is provided in large reusable containers to fill up. Our administrative staff bends over backwards to make things happen for us and their door(s) are always open if we have questions. The engineering staff makes sure everything is in working order and that we have all the inspections we need to keep Aljoya in excellent working order. I’ve lived by myself since my youngest daughter left home 15 years ago. It is wonderful to live in a caring community again. It definitely feels like family!

We chose Aljoya because the apartments are open and spacious with nice large windows. The hallways and common areas are well-appointed. The residents and staff are friendly and helpful. There's plenty of activities and interests to pursue and the food is great! We are very happy here and glad that we chose to spend our 'golden years' at Aljoya.

A couple who were our neighbor when we lived near Green Lake moved into Aljoya in early 2023. We visited them several months later after a tour of the facility. We were impressed by how clean and well managed the place is. When we were offered to move into a vacant unit in June 2024, we decided to move to Aljoya. The staff, from office managers to valet personnel, are very courteous and helpful. We have met many wonderful people during dinner time in the elegant dining room, or during leisure hours playing various card games and participating in other activities. The residents here are friendly and seem happy living here. We look forward to learning more about living in this community where residents can share life's experiences and care for each other.

Having previously visited Aljoya Thornton Place many times as a visitor to friends living there, I decided it was time to come for a tour as a potential resident. I found the residents I encountered to be warm, friendly, and obviously happy in their choice of residence. The apartments are varied and appealing. I signed on to the Waiting lLst and am very pleased that as a Waiting List member, I'm invited to participate in activities (as space is available), and to come for a meal in the dining room once a month. These offerings are a fantastic way for a potential resident to get to know the environment and meet residents. It is a way to "emotionally move in" before the physical move.

I wasn't thinking about a retirement community until I had a flood in my condominium and realized I didn't have the skills or energy to deal with it on my own. I have made many visits to Aljoya: the facility is beautiful, residents' apartments are lovely and diverse, and the food is excellent. I appreciate the transportation assistance available for doctors' appointments. The menu of exercise classes, lectures, and organized outings feels like a cruise ship! The staff has been cordial and kind - reassuring and non-pressured. They have shown me that I will be able to continue my remote self-employment while enjoying the utmost in security and support. My mother entered a retirement facility in her nineties. I felt she would have enjoyed it far more had she done this in her seventies or eighties when she would have been able to take full advantage of the community and its offerings. I look at Aljoya as an exciting next step in my life, rather than a "last resort."

Aljoya Thornton Place feels very modern and new. They have a beautiful swimming pool and a nice workout base that has a whole row of windows looking out. It was very inviting and light. I remember the rooms as being very nicely appointed as far as colors, and the kitchen and bathroom being very updated. It was very nice. I considered it strongly. The woman that did the tour was very warm and informative. Residents knew her really well. They had a lot of different programs. The facility itself might be very nice, but its location was just not ideal for me.

Aljoya Thornton Place was very nice and almost plush. The people were very friendly. I saw some of their apartments and living areas. In some places, when you start needing more assistance, they move you to a different place or to a different living facility, but here, they don't do that. You stay in the same apartment and assisted living comes to you. The staff is friendly and pleasant. They have a theater, hobby rooms, and a pool. I had a meal there, and the food was excellent. It was very good. The community was very nice and clean. They had paintings and sculpture.

Aljoya Thornton Place was a new building and well furnished. The amenities and organization were very nice. I saw the room, and we would have to furnish it. It was better than any other place we looked at.

We helped my parents move to this facility 5 years ago. So glad that we did! While is was difficult to leave the family home of over 50 years, the environment and the care at Aljoya made the last years of my parents lives MUCH more enjoyable. While being independent at entry, the assisted living options became very important as each parent was nearing the end of their lives. My mom passed away three years ago and dad just passed away. The staff was like family for both. The other residents became an important network of friends and community.

Aljoya has been a wonderfully warm and welcoming community for not only my mother, who suffers from dementia and even at the beginning of her residency could not remember people’s names and how to get from one place to another, but also for us, her family. As an only child I was concerned about my mother continuing to live by herself. I knew that, although I was with her frequently and doing things with her, I could not possibly give her the care and activities I knew she would need. Mom and I had visited other retirement communities and mom was very adamant that she did not like their environments or décor. For my own part, I wasn't very encouraged about either what we'd seen or by my mother's reaction. One day, after our weekly routine of shopping at Northgate, mom suggested we visit Aljoya. We made an appointment and the moment we walked in mom smiled, breathed in the aroma of the espresso in the Bistro and said “This is it!” She was of course very impressed by the elegance in the décor and the bright warm colors. (She often complained that most of the other facilities were depressing in colors etc.) What impressed me the most were the employees. To this day, 2 ½ years later, the employees are the most amazing group of people of all ages who always have a smile, who greet everyone by name and enthusiastically always try to do something to help residents and visiting family members. The Wellness center, headed by Annie R.N., who is our number one “Angel,” as my mother calls her, and all of her staff have become an extension of our family. They monitor mother daily and all of her vitals and are sure not only to watch over medical needs but also her psychological and emotional needs. It is clear that Eli and Rebecca and their amazing son, Jacob, have approached the creation of their facility as though they were creating a home for one of their own family members. They have not overlooked a single detail, from the outstanding staff that they hire and train to the smallest details of fresh flowers on the dining room tables to bowls of fresh fruit available to the residents as they wander throughout the complex. The Almos are an extremely caring family, who are concerned about their residents from the day they walk in to the days that follow as some residents become more frail or ill. They have been a huge and very responsive support system to my family. I truly do not know what I would do or where I would have been able to turn in these recent months as my mother has continued to decline. At Aljoya the Almos have created a positive caring community. From those who work there to the other residents who live there, Aljoya has provided a welcoming neighborhood that surrounds my mother with life, love and caring. In many respects, giving up living "on her own" in her later years has been a gain and a blessing, not an ever increasing struggle. It has in fact brought her new comforts, new security and a new environment of great beauty. Because of Aljoya, the staff and the Almos my mother will be able to live her last days in a warm and friendly atmosphere with exceptional nursing care and surrounded by her own personal possessions and family by her side. We can’t thank everyone enough for all that they do every day and what they have done these past 2 ½ years.

We did not select this facility, as we felt we just could not afford the high price. But! I totally recommend it. When we came in ... unannounced .. for a visit, we quickly realized it wasn't right for our mom. But the manager, I wish I could remember his name, could not have been more gracious and kind. He treated us to coffee and dessert in their dining room, which was lovely, and spent a good half hour with us, going over various options. He took the time to make up a list for us, ranging from hiring in home caregivers to finding a more affordable assisted living, age in place home. And he had NOTHING to gain from that, but the pleasure of helping another human being. I really, really wish I could remember his name. I was very impressed by his warmth and obvious caring for elderly people.

There are certain qualities i look for when visiting a assisted living facilities. professionalism, kindness, and great customer service. This facility have all 3. The facility is design similar to an hotel but each room is built more like an apartment. Each resident is offered three meals a day and the support if needed. A lot of the residents at this facility has a car and mostly run their own errands. The staff is dedicated into serving your friends and love ones when medical assistants is needed. When my friend and me was there visiting, we was pleased to see a staff that's so supportive.
