I have moved into Ida Culver House Broadview. One of the reasons I chose them is that it was closest to my daughter and her family. It has the apartment configuration that was most pleasing to me, even though it's a small one. It has an aerial view because it's on the fourth floor and a partial view of the Olympic mountains. It's one of the larger ones, its eight acres and in a more residential area. They have a swimming pool, and the food is excellent. Ida Culver was a teacher, and so it has several teachers, and I was a retired teacher also. The apartment is unusual there. There are only six of these floor plans. It faces north and has an aerial view of the trees, and the living room also has a big picture window and then a side window that faces the water and the Olympic mountains. In the bedroom, you have a big picture window there, side by side the window that faces east; you can see when the sun comes up one of the Cascade Mountains along with trees. It has a front French door that opens onto a small patio and the patio faces north to the area view and west to the mountain, Puget Sound view. It has a bathroom with a window that faces the north area, and it has a complete small kitchen. The bedroom has a full mirrored closet, and the entrance has a closet, then there's a closet for the washer and dryer. Theres an up and down washer and dryer. The apartment is 541 ft².

My wife and I have been living in another South Sound retirement community for nine years. I'm seeking memory care in Seattle for my 80 year -old sibling. We have been very pleased working with Ida Culver Broadview and the staff there. This organization is superior organizationally, in facilities quality, employee knowledge and skill, as well as candidness and transparency in communicating information needed by prospective residents and family. Many other senior care organizations are still TRYING to develop the solid organizational footing and service culture that Ida Culver already has and provides.

My parents moved to ICB from the Midwest 7 years ago to be closer to family. As hard as it was to leave their former home, ICB soon became their home in every sense. They went to fabulous lectures, music performances, social gatherings, field trips, etc. and incorporated themselves into the warm and welcoming community. A little less than 2 years ago, we moved my mom to The Terrace, which is the memory care part of the building. It was a challenging transition for the whole family, but we got support and were shown such kindness from the IC staff. The Terrace staff are some of the loveliest, kindest, and most compassionate people. They have laughed with us, advised us, and genuinely cried with us when we experienced losses this year. They held my mom’s hand and gently encouraged her when she needed it. All the while, my dad has found strength from his IC community. The staff and many of the residents are right there when times get tough and also when one just wants to hear a good joke. The facility is great! Lovely library, activity spaces, gym, pool, etc. In summary, I would highly recommend taking a look at ICB. It has been, and continues to be a godsend for our family.

My mother moved into the Terrace about six weeks ago, after having a couple of falls and a hospital/rehab stay when living on her own. Her room looks out onto some lovely trees, and is quite pleasant. The staff have been amazing -- very warm and caring. My mom seems to be much less lonely than she was living in the other part of the ICHB campus, which I think is largely due to her more frequent interactions with the staff, and she's already made a friend or two. I am not sure to what degree she participates in the community activities, as she is still just getting settled in, but almost every time I drop by there's something going on in the central living area. I know she's enjoyed the periodic outings, and hoping she'll be able to take advantage of the other activities as she starts to feel more at home. I feel this was a very good move for her, given the decline in her memory and cognition. It has also made my life easier, knowing she's in good hands and having the extra assistance in managing her healthcare needs.

My mother is 95 and had been living independently. For a few years, she and I had been discussing her next step as her needs and desires changed. When she told me on Mother's Day that she was ready to look at places, Ida Culver House Broadview was the top destination on our list. The buildings, grounds and views are absolutely beautiful. The property is very well maintained and the care is evident. The staff is amazing - warm, friendly, caring, and truly focused on finding a good fit for everyone! They took time to answer all the questions we had during our initial tour and were quick to respond to follow-up emails and our request to have a second tour to increase Mom's comfort level with a big move. The staff has been extremely kind in introducing Mom to other residents and making her feel valued and included. The nurses have gone above and beyond in ensuring Mom understands what is available and has the care she needs and wants. The bottom line is the staff truly cares about the residents and their families and treat them with respect, dignity and friendship. The meals are fantastic with varied menus daily and their two dining rooms allow the residents to enjoy the incredible views of the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound so that every meal is more than just a meal. They are social events and a chance to meet and engage with other residents. They have so many activities for the residents and families to enjoy. One of our favorites was the art gala featuring works by several different residents. Participation in the activities is encouraged and, at the same time, privacy is truly respected. Mom is absolutely loving living at Ida Culver House Broadview! I have not seen her so thoroughly happy in years!

From the moment I visited Ida Culver, Broadview I could see myself living there. I was initially attracted by the property — 8 acres, beautiful gardens, lots of open air spaces. Every apartment has its own private outdoor space, a patio or lanai. Many public areas, such as the dining room have views of the mountains and the sound. Once I moved into Ida Culver Broadview, my expectations have been exceeded. The physical amenities, such as a saltwater pool, a lovely library, gym, game room, etc. offer space to meet the needs of diverse residents. Special programs, (lectures, musical performances, theater, outings/trips) are offered regularly with professional presenters. There are regular exercise classes in person, or on the in-house television channel which has programs throughout the day and evening. The staff sets the tone of friendliness, caring and welcome, and I feel that among the residents as well. You can be as social or as private as you wish. The apartments have variety of layouts and are totally self-contained for a residents’ needs including personal laundry. Friends have commented on the high quality of the facilities in the apartment, and in the public areas. The food, variety and quality, is excellent. The staff is attentive to individual needs, and your requests are responded to promptly. I am amazed how quickly Ida Culver Broadview has felt like home!

After being on a waiting list for another retirement community and realizing that as we got closer to the time when we were ready 'to make the big move' we were not feeling as excited as we should be about our choice, we decided to reconsider where we wanted to spend our final years. We revisited a place or two we had toured earlier and then visited Ida Culver House Broadview. It immediately felt like home. It is a physically beautiful place with good amenities that is full of life. We were made welcome by other residents and staff and witnessed an abundance of activities instead of the silent halls and quiet residents we had seen in other facilities. We were able to rent a comfortable apartment with housekeeping, maintenance, chef quality meals, and wellness assistance at a competitive price. More than that we found a lively community of interesting and interested new friends who enjoy an astounding array of activities supporting physical, intellectual, and pleasure interests. Everything from Shakespeare to Current Events, water exercise to Trivia nights, Community Sings to Jazz to Folk to Classical to Opera performances in house and available as field trips. We couldn't be happier with our choice and are glad that we followed our urge to check out one more place before making our finale important decision.
