Houston, Texas, offers its 210,000 senior citizens a diverse culture and an expanding international community. Retirees can enjoy the city’s impressive concentration of art and performance halls, boasting its own ballet, symphony and touring Broadway shows often in the area. The Houston Health Department offers seniors extensive resources, such as a nutrition program, benefits counseling and care coordination. Houston also supports aging well by hosting dozens of free art, exercise and social classes throughout the city. The U.S. News placed Houston in their top 30 best places to retire for the year 2019 because of its affordable housing and cheap attractions.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
