My parents lived at Villagio and they were very pleased. They enjoyed the food, the staff and the fellowship. Great place

I visited this facility

I like Villagio of Carrollton. I like the size, it's a small community that has availability right now. They understood what I'm telling them about our needs, and they were telling me that they have the resources to handle the needs of my father and the people there. I had a chance to visit with Jerry and I enjoyed talking with them. Its location is excellent; it's not very far from where I live, but also it was not off the beaten path. It was more in a residential area and not on a busy highway or intersection. It was in a quiet area. In terms of the amenities, the facility has upgraded a lot of things including new flooring. But it was an older facility.

I visited this facility

We didn't really care for the Villagio of Carrollton too much. It didn't seem as positive or uplifting. The residents there appeared to be in a little more advanced need of care across the board. It was older and it didn't seem as fresh as other places. The room was OK, it just wasn't as bright as the other places. The staff member was OK. She was nice. They have a nice seating area like a courtyard inside, but the people aren't allowed to leave per se. They have limited visiting hours, too. I got the impression that they aren't doing a whole lot yet because of the coronavirus. Some ladies were getting their fingernails painted while we were there. We met some of them and they seemed happy and content there. They had bible studies and a few other little things. It just didn't impress me as much. It just wasn't as cheerful.

Too Many Problems

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother suffered from cruelty and abuse during the nine months she lived at Villagio of Carrollton. Her room was infested with biting bugs and she was being eaten alive, but they insisted she was a "carrier" and somehow producing these bugs in her own skin. Ridiculous! When I refused a very poisonous skin treatment (which she did not need), they quarantined her in her bug-infested room for 5 days with NO treatment of any kind, not even anything to soothe her burning, itchy skin. They even took away the aloe vera gel I brought her, so she took cold soda cans from her mini-fridge to soothe her irritated skin. Outrageous! Dermatologist confirmed that bites were from bugs in her environment, but Villagio didn't have the ability to find them. They kept treating for bedbugs, even though doctor and exterminator confirmed there were no bedbugs. After two months of this, my poor mother being quarantined and labeled "contagious" (which doctor confirmed she was NOT), I removed her from the facility. The mental abuse from being isolated and told she was to blame for the bug bites was horrific. The Executive Director should be removed from her position. Her cruelty and uncaring attitude are reprehensible. The Head Nurse actually tried to convince me that steroid cream was like antibiotics and had to be used for a full cycle of a certain number of days, which is the opposite of true. She wanted to keep putting steroid cream on my mother's healthy skin for three more weeks. Crazy! When I reached out to the corporate office, Cappella Living Solutions, for help, their Regional Director of Operations proved himself to be just as obtuse as his staff, supporting their cruel and ridiculous antics. If you want a caring environment for your loved one where the leadership is smart enough to exterminate bugs and administer medication properly, DO NOT put anyone you know in Villagio of Carrollton or any Cappella Living Solutions property. I had to contact both Health and Human Services (HHS) and Adult Protective Services (APS) about the maltreatment and living conditions. So disappointing. Other than that, the workers themselves who cared for my sweet mother were very kind to her. Unfortunately, the diet is pure sugar and carbohydrates. My mother gained about a pound a week--25 pounds in six months--living at Villagio of Carrollton. Dessert after both lunch and dinner, sugary snacks in the morning and afternoon, and too many carbohydrates in general is not a good diet for anyone, much less a senior adult. This facility does not know how to provide a healthy environment for a senior. Period.

Provider Response

We are very sorry to read about your experience. What you are describing is in no way aligned with how we train our staff or how we value residents. Additionally, we work very hard to not only provide quality and healthy food options but to give residents multiple choices as well. We would love to speak with you and learn more about your experience. Please reach out to David E. Ewing, Regional Director of Operations Cappella Living Solutions

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother-in-law has found a place called Corinthians. I would recommend this place to anybody. We chose this one because it is very affordable and it is a very nice place. It is the kind of place she needed. She has her own apartment and she can have her dog there. Her suite is just a large room which is about 400 square feet. It has a bathroom, a closet, and a little kitchen area. She likes this facility. She meets a lot of people her age and everybody is really friendly there. The staff is very good. They even have a nurse on-site. Also if my mother-in-law needs to go to the doctor, they can take her there and that's not a problem. They have a lot of activities there. They have a big dining room where she gets three meals a day. I would give them a high rating because they have done everything that they said they would do.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My grandmother, who recently passed away at 99 yrs. old, lived the last year and a half of her life at Esperanza of Carrollton. It is a pricey facility, but I have nothing but glowing reviews. First, the facility was always clean and did not have the stench that many nursing homes and assisted care facilities have. Secondly, the staff was so attentive and caring toward my grandmother. We have lots of family in the area, so there was someone always there. I realize this probably helped in keeping the staff on their toes, but regardless, they were outstanding. My grandmother liked them and she was definitely coherent enough to tell us if she was not receiving quality care. Another aspect about this facility is the genuine care and concern they provided my grandmother in her last days. She actually received hospice care at the facility and passed away there. They genuinely loved my grandmother and that showed in the care they provided.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My experience was with Corinthians Assisted Living/Memory Care in Carrollton, TX. My grandmother was a resident here. The level of care that my grandmother received was very high. We never had any problems with the staff and the head nurse that we dealt with was professional and very helpful. We did find the facility expensive, compared to other facilities in the area, but the extra expense was worth it! The facility organized many events for residents and their families. The food was decent. Grandma started out with a roommate, but after a few (imagined) instances of stealing, she was moved to her own room. It was still a 2-person occupency so the rate did not change, but she had the room to herself. The room included a shared patio in a central courtyard, and allowed her to "visit" with neighbors while still being under supervision. All in all, this was an exceptional facility and exceeded all of my standards and requirements.
