I toured Atria Lafayette Hill. The general feeling was friendly. They have good amenities. They have a full-service dining room, a bistro, a gym, a hair salon, and full-time physical therapy and occupational therapy. I ate at the bistro, and the food was very good.

Dad moved to Atria Lafayette Hill. He is there for memory care. We chose it for him because of the price range for the level of care he needs. He just moved in there, but from my visit, it's a newer building and it's a much larger space for Dad to move about. I saw the community TV room, the actual meals that they prepare, and the space that's available to the residents. The person who did the tour was very informative and assured me that Atria Lafayette Hill, if a place to select, would be a good direction to go. It looks fairly clean. The other staff was pretty much busy tending to residents and their responsibilities there. So, they seemed to be engaged with the activities that they were doing at the time that I made my walk-through. From the itinerary and schedule, it appears that there are plenty of activities that are available to the community to get involved. They have the best rate value for the level of care they are providing.

I'm in Atria Lafayette Hill at the moment and my wife is in the care program here. It's the most beautiful facility of all the ones we've looked at. A lot of the other ones were new, but this one is very, very noncommercial, very homey, and very, very comfortable. There's a new management staff here, which are very, very responsible and very caring. I don't think any place ever has enough staff. You'd like more people, but the people here are very, very caring. I'd certainly recommend that. So far, the experience is getting better and better once you learn how to live in assisted living. It's a new way of life and not everybody adjusts to it. There are several different apartment types. We have a two-bedroom with two baths two closets and a beautiful porch, overlooking a horse farm. It's a beautiful, uplifting apartment. Pretty much the activities that the residents want, they will get. We have afternoon and evening movies. If you missed the movie, you could see it the next day. I'm even teaching a sculpting class here. Whatever the residents want, they will get. We have a couple of residents who are master gardeners and they put in big above-ground gardens for them to work on. They're very, very responsive to the residents. It was not always the case a year ago, so it's improved tremendously with the new executive director.

It's a nice place and they take good care me. Of course we would all rather be home but if I cant be home this is great. I always find things to do, whether working on a puzzle in the art studio, visiting the bistro for a snack, I go to most programs. I get good sunlight in my apartment.

Life Guidance (Memory Care) is not a thriving environment for your loved one...high turnover of management and staff for a place that has been open a little over 2 years. Residents spend alot of time wandering or watching 12 hours of television...do your homework...

My friend has moved into Atria Lafayette Hill. I think it was great. It was more up-to-date than the other places we looked at. I thought this facility seemed cleaner and more up-to-date. The salespeople were all wonderful. They were extremely friendly. They followed through, set up appointments, and gave a wonderful tour when we were there. It was like they were a member of the family, that is how we felt. I was able to have a meal there, which was delightful. It was lunch, I'd go there for lunch every day. It was very nice. The food and service were nice. The waiters couldn't have been more eager to please. Where we had lunch that day was sort of a separate dining area. I guess it's for special occasions, like if you're going to have a birthday party there or something. It's a smaller addition next to the dining room, which looked fine. They do a lot of different things there, which make it look a little more used. They have entertainment and things like that. You can be up on a higher floor and look down and see things going on. They also have a bistro and a little coffee shop. I have eaten there. You can get anything from the dining room; they have special sandwiches or whatever up there, but you can order anything. He's using a washer and dryer that's on his floor. If he were not capable of doing it himself, there is a next level up where they come in, change your sheets, make your bed, and wash your stuff. The next level up would be helping him with his meds. On the level of care he has, for the first month, he could have somebody come in and make sure he was doing his meds correctly. As it turned out, it's what the salesman said, but not exactly what was the case, which was he would have then been in the next level of care. They don't come to you, you go to them. There's a place you go to get your meds. So, we discontinued that. He was unhappy because there was a med they hadn't gotten yet, and he was very much aware that he wasn't getting it. That got straightened out pretty quickly. Other than that, he's independent. So, that's not a service they do. It's either the next level or it's not. I have visited a couple of times, and they seem to keep track of them. I picked him up to take him with me once, and I just pulled up to the door. They made sure he was waiting. Everything I've seen, it's been great. The staff, they're wonderful. I had email correspondence with someone, and then I finally met her one day when I came in. When we first got to the room, she came into the room and she was very, very helpful. Everything I've seen is great. They've got a room where they've got a service for physical, occupational, and speech therapy, things like that. They have a nice library, it presents beautifully. They had lots of windows and lots of light; to me, that was a plus. The program of activities was great, but that's probably the same as the other places. There's a list every day of what's going on that day. They do a lot of movies; I'd move in just for the movies. They have entertainers who come. There's this activities director who is in charge of putting it all together, and it looked like it was great. My friend has a limited amount of money, so what we were looking at was limited. This place was much nicer than the limited places we were looking. He has dementia, and as he goes on, he's going to need higher levels of care and it's going to get more and more expensive. He's paying a few thousand dollars a month for a place to live, and a place to eat. There's a doctor who comes in once a week, and they can arrange for him to see other doctors. They have a service that will drive him places, he's no longer driving. It was more money than the other places we were looking, but not much more. They were all in the same ballpark. Others might have been a lot cheaper, but this place is a lot nicer. The food I had is wonderful. I've looked at the menus, and you can get anything. If you don't like what they're serving, you can order a cheeseburger, you can order anything, that's what I was told. The food was delicious, I would have loved to have had seconds. In his room, he has a walk-in closet and a regular closet, like a big coat closet. He also has a very nice little kitchen area, with a microwave, refrigerator, and a sink. He has a huge bathroom. He's got a really big room, and the room is sort of angled so that he can have a chair and a TV area, like a little sitting area, as well as a bedroom area. It's all one room, but it's bigger and it's shaped better to me. I knew what the finished room was going to look like. The dining room was on a different level. Where you enter, it's the second floor, because the front of is on a hill. When you enter, you don't have to walk up or down or anything. You just enter on a regular place, but the dining room is down one level, which you can look down at. It's big and open. You can look down, and you can walk out. There's a door and a patio and everything else from the dining room. We took a game of Scrabble outside, and we walked through the dining room, out the back door, and sat on the patio, which is lovely. It looks like a throne. If everything is crowded in the dining room, it doesn't congest anything else. The other hallways, the entrance, the library, whatever room they have, all are uncongested, and people are eating in this huge dining room.
