I visited this facility

We looked at Legacy Assisted Living. When you go there, you feel like you're home. People talked to us, and all I could see was smiles and laughter. A lot of happy people, and that includes the staff and the people who lived there. We saw the community center. They have one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom homes, and we saw all three of those. They were all recently emptied, and so they had not done the upgrades on them. The couple at the three-bedroom home had lived there from the time the unit was built, and so they showed it as is. Whoever would be moving in there gets to pick the new cabinets, the new appliances, the new flooring, and the colors of the walls. They get to pick all of the decor, and so they can't show it with the new decor because that's going to be chosen by the person who buys it.

I really liked Legacy Village in Xenia. It's a little expensive, but I liked it. The staff was very good. They explained everything really well and took us all over the place and let us see it. They knew what they were talking about, and answered all our questions. We looked at a 2-bedroom apartment in independent living. They were really nice. They were a lot smaller than what we're used to living in because we're in our own house right now, but we're eventually going to downsize to something like that.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My wife is in Legacy, and they're taking good care of her. She's got a nice private room, and they've got a nice social area. She's out there with other people, so she's not in her room by herself all the time. Most of the women are out there as well, and I like it. We've had my wife in a few other places short term, and the food at Legacy is not better than any other place I've been in. I eat dinner with my wife every night, and I told them, "I'm gonna be here every night, just put it on the bill," and they said OK. They keep her changed. I just got here and they took her back to her room and made sure she had on dry panties. They're taking real good care of her, and I'm very pleased. They treat me real nice as well. We're used to eating in very good restaurants though. The food here is not that good, but it's decent, it's not the same thing every night, it's got a nice variety, and I'm always satisfied with it. I get enough to eat, and so does she.

Legacy Assisted Living has the single cottages that I was looking for. I'm not interested with the apartment building type of thing. Marjorie took me on the tour and she was a wonderful person. She answered every question that I had and she tried to give me all the information that she thought would be of help to me to make a decision. I was very pleased and very satisfied with the tour. She showed me two units, both were single units, no up and down stairs or anything of that nature, and one had a single car garage, while the other one had a double car garage. They were very nice and very clean that I wouldn't mind living there at all. I have two dogs, and where I live now, it has a huge backyard that fits in, so my dogs have plenty of room to run around. Living in a senior community, that would kind of constrain my dogs somewhat. I asked Marjorie about putting a small backyard fence in the unit she showed me and she said, "That wouldn't be acceptable, but I could put up an electronic fence. That would probably work." Overall, I'm very pleased with it. The dining facility was placed in the assisted living area, not in the cottage area, so I wasn't able to see it. I only saw the community area where people play games or do their activities. The activities they have during the course of the month are posted on their bulletin board. Some people play checkers, dominoes, and some people just get friendly with each other. I think they also post the menus for the restaurant there. Legacy is not brand new. It's an older facility but it's alright. They renovated it and cleaned up, the whole nine yards, after a resident moves out, so I got no problems with its cleanliness.

I thought the staff and amenities offered great service to my grandfather. I was not impressed with some of the staff, they appeared grumpy and irritable which did not help my grandfathers spirits. They neglected him every so often and he complained openly about it. As he came away from the facility however he was becoming more mobile and he attributed that to the staff. This was confusing at first because he had always complained about them quite a bit. It was great though how he was able to live on his own after being in the assisted living for about two years. He often tells me how much he appreciated my visits to him there and how if he ever falls into that type of living situation again that he wants to go back to Legacy. I was thankful for their care for my grandfather and even though they sometimes had staff that weren't the kindest I know he was taken care of better than most assisted living homes would have. I will definitely recommend Legacy assisted living to many more people in the future. Many thanks to their staff and even owners who operate their establishment. I do have one parting statement and that is that over the next few years Legacy should look to hire more happy people. It sounds simple but happiness makes a big difference especially in the lives of those being cared for.
