Nursing Home Communities in Fairborn, OH

"I feel that most of the items in this particular facility are outdated. There is such a 70's feel to the place that you almost feel you have stepped back in time. The staff seems like they are spread too thin, and they are far too young. I often worry if residents are treated with the respect their age has earned them. The cleaning staff seems much friendlier and interactive than the nursing staff. "

"It seemed nice enough. It seemed like it would work well for my father. It seemed like it would be a good facility for him. It's close by, so we would be able to check on him frequently without any problems. He knows the area because he's from New Carlisle originally. We were fairly impressed. It was clean and the facility seemed like it offered everything that you would need. The people there were friendly and helpful, which is important. The residents seemed happy. What we didn't like was the temperature was very, very chilly and he's elderly, so cold is a big issue. We weren't comfortable with that because the temperature was something he would not be able to tolerate. The staff said that it was colder than it usually was normally, and she said it's typically not that bad. Other than that, everybody seemed to be caring. The dining room was large and nice. It is a combination of assisted living and long-term care. I didn't look at the long-term care side of it, but they offer that and also rehabilitation. The staff during the tour was very helpful and answered all our questions succinctly. They're renovating, so they're adding to it."

"My mom is at a skilled nursing center right now at The Laurels. She went there after she got out of the hospital, she had to have a hospital stay, because she had an unexpected like medical emergency. So then she went there after. Overall, it's good so far. They seemed to be helpful when I call them and ask about her. I haven't been able to go in there personally because they don't allow any visitors. There was one other person in the room with her, so she has like a roommate, that was like a room with a window, and a TV. They do rehab, so they have a gym for rehab. The location is good because it's close to where she used to live. It's not far from hospitals. It started with her Medicare, and now they're trying to switch her over to Medicaid, because her Medicare will not pay for that, and I don't have the money to pay for it. I think because of the area it is in, it works well for me, because I live close to it, and it's close to the hospital. The caretaker seemed good. The only drawback I think I have is like, there are times when I will call my mom's room phone, and not be able to get an answer, but they tell me sometimes she's sleeping, sometimes she's doing rehab, or out doing various things."

"Being a previous resident of Greenewood Manor, ( I was in the facility for 2 months in 2013) I found my care to be beyond my expectations. The nurses, caregivers, Drs. and staff all treated me with respect, and were very helpful. My P.T. 's were there through thick and thin... never letting me "weasel my way out" of my much needed therapy. Then when my spirits were down, the beautician would give me a haircut for a change of my outlook!! The residents were so kind to me. Everyone became, what I felt, like a friend ! The facility was clean and fresh. Now that I'm back at home, and my health has greatly improved. It's been a long time coming, but I want to tell them all Thank-You from the bottom of my heart. I know I am not the only one you have saved!!! "

"Her stay went really well at Greene Oaks. They were nice and they really took good care of her. She said she they feed her well. She had no complaints. I called to check on her and she was fine while we were gone. Everything was fine and she did well up there. "

"Southbrook Healthcare Center is great. They have some little beds for some cats outside that are always by the windows for the residents to see. They are very friendly from the time you walk in the door. The care they provide is very personable. They treat you like family and they're very knowledgeable in what they do. I had requested to get some lidocaine patches for my uncle and they got that done right away. I see him doing a lot of stuff also, like singing and playing games. They have a big day room where there are puzzles and all kinds of stuff."

"A few years ago I was with my grandmother as my family and I sought to move her into an assisted living facility. During our search for the perfect home for her, we toured nearby Springfield Masonic Community and the assisted living residences. We were welcomed by many staff members and residents into the community and were given a thorough and detailed tour of the facility and amenities. My grandmother eventually chose to make a move down South, however, the impression that this facility left on myself and on my family was great. Should my grandmother have chosen Springfield Masonic Community, she would have had a private room with access to many social gathering areas. Lounges and separate kitchenette areas were available for use, and a large picnic pavilion was available for get-togethers and relaxing with the family. Ramps and elevators made access to dining areas, the gift shop, library, chapel, post office, and offices easy to get to and maneuver around to. Finally, an underground walkway provided access to other campus buildings during inclement weather. Although my grandmother is happy living near her sister in another community, we almost wish she would move back to Springfield not only to be near to us but also to enjoy the many amenities and activities offered by Springfield Masonic Community. "

"My mom is now at Widows Home of Dayton. We toured it, and they had a nice rehab center. They have an activity room. Of course, she can't do any of that right now. She's in stage four liver cancer. She's only been up two different times in six weeks, but they did try to get her up. She is not doing very good, but they have taken wonderful care of her. They take wonderful care of my mother. There's somebody with my mom from like 8:30 in the morning until 8:30 at night. We take turns. Everyone that is taking care of her has done a wonderful job. They are so sweet to her. Food is OK. They have activities there, but she's not able to participate. They have a gym for therapy, and they have an activity room. They even have a cafeteria for people who want to go there and get a meal while they're visiting. I've been really pleased with it and it's very clean."

"My friend was at Village at the Greene just this year. She had hip surgery, so she was in rehab. The facility was very nicely decorated, well laid out, and easily accessible. The upkeep was great too. The staff was very good, very concerned, and very helpful. They had lots of activities and places where people could have private conversations. They even had a little dining room in each wing. If you were able to, you could go out and eat there. They prepared the food in that general area too."

"Vandalia Park nursing home has a decent but not extravagant outside appearance. The lobby is the first thing you notice when you walk in. The lobby has been updated and gives the appearance of a nice facility. My review for Vandalia Park is not good at all. I would not send anyone I remotely cared about to this place. Their cleanliness skills are hugely lacking. Housekeeping is not available at night, so if something happens or patients need something, there is a high risk they have run out. They also offer rehab, so there are individuals of all ages not just the ederly. There was stealing and theft occuring to the older residents. Some of the night aides would sleep and not check on their patients till the morning before the day shift came in. Overall, it's a horrible place lacking cleanliness, lack of supplies for patients, and criminal activity. I would advise anyone to check around and so their homework before considering placing a relative in a place like Vandalia Park. "

"The Sanctuary at Wilmington Place was very clean. They had two levels of service; one is assisted living, and one is more or less a rehab center. If you were in the assisted section or the independent part, the rooms were small. They were apartment-like with a small kitchenette and a dinette. Again, it was very clean, and they did a have meal service, which is good. The caregivers seemed really helpful and willing to go above and beyond to take care of the patients. "

"My brother was a resident just recently for a few years. I believe he received nothing but the best of care possible. The staff who cared for him, seemed to have nothing but good things to say about him. It also meant alot to our family that one of the staff was with him when he took his last breath, when we were not able to."

"My Mom was there and did not get good medical care. her meds were not given correctly. Mom had a problem and did not see house doctor. After two day I took my Mom to emergency room and she was there 4 days. I told MediGold my mother WAS not going back to that place. Did not trust them! Name now Arbors of Springfield.
