The Best Nursing Home Communities in Miami County, OH

"Piqua Manor is a rehab place. It is for people who had surgery and are being sent away from the hospital but are not ready to be home yet. They also have one hall for people who have long term issues. My brother was there when he had a stroke; that's why we chose it. The staff is extremely friendly. They are very concerned about all their patients. My dad is really happy there. They let him use a walker, and they exercise him. They encourage him to come out and eat his meals in the dining area. They take care to make sure he isn't eating things that are going to upset him because he has a delicate stomach. They have a very nice dining area, and they have good food. They let him bring his trombone, and he plays sometimes for the other residents. He is 96, so he is really quite old. The security is good, and they have a bracelet that they put on their ankles so they can't get out the door in the hallway, and the front door is locked most of the time. "

"this place is like a second home to my grandma. the staff is amazing. its has a very home like atmosphere. they are working to make many improvements. they always notify me of any changes. you can tell the staff care about the residents. "

"Vandalia Park nursing home has a decent but not extravagant outside appearance. The lobby is the first thing you notice when you walk in. The lobby has been updated and gives the appearance of a nice facility. My review for Vandalia Park is not good at all. I would not send anyone I remotely cared about to this place. Their cleanliness skills are hugely lacking. Housekeeping is not available at night, so if something happens or patients need something, there is a high risk they have run out. They also offer rehab, so there are individuals of all ages not just the ederly. There was stealing and theft occuring to the older residents. Some of the night aides would sleep and not check on their patients till the morning before the day shift came in. Overall, it's a horrible place lacking cleanliness, lack of supplies for patients, and criminal activity. I would advise anyone to check around and so their homework before considering placing a relative in a place like Vandalia Park. "

"Having a loved one at this facility I see the care and dedication of the staff. They go above and beyond to provide care and get to know the person. It's a beautiful facility with large one person suites. My loved one has a really nice view of the countryside, we watch deer going across the field."

"My husband moved into the Cypress Pointe Health Campus, and it's been good. He's only been there a week or two, but I'm pleased with it. His room is for one person in the room. It's a very comfortable room with a nice bath. I have seen a few activities when I'm there. My daughters and I have been very pleased with what we've seen so far."

"I was at the Laurels of Huber Heights for 2 weeks rehab after a stay in the hospital for a serious allergic reaction to a medicine. The staffers keep the place very clean. The Laurels smells well-cleaned, and I can testify they mopped and disinfected my bathroom and room daily. The dietary staff served good meals and were cheerful and prompt. They are not stingy with snacks for the residents. The nurses are excellent. They checked on my condition multiple times a day and cleaned out my wounds daily. They also saw thru the less than accurate notes of some of the hospital staffers, and adjusted my treatments accordingly so I would get proper treatment. The doctor there did likewise. The rehab therapists verified I could do physical tasks like cooking and housework, and ensured I lifted weights and walked and climbed stairs to get my strength back. They are cheerful go-getters. The admin people were good at making sure I got to medical appointments away from the facility. They also worked with my insurance people to ensure my treatment and coverage. And their placement agent had the integrity to visit me in the hospital at first to turn down my application for rehab. But when she saw the hospital staffers misrepresented my condition and attitude, she told my wfe and I that she would recommend The Laurels accept me as a rehab patient. I was allowed visitors, which they encouraged, and they also got me a stand so I could work with my laptop and get my taxes and paperwork chores done. They provided me with clean clothes and towels, and ensured I could shower safely. And the staffers respected my privacy. Everyone tried to help me.. And everyone tried to help the long-term care patients also! I would recommend The Laurels of Huber Heights without reservation. In fact, I have been doing so ever since I got out."

"It seemed nice enough. It seemed like it would work well for my father. It seemed like it would be a good facility for him. It's close by, so we would be able to check on him frequently without any problems. He knows the area because he's from New Carlisle originally. We were fairly impressed. It was clean and the facility seemed like it offered everything that you would need. The people there were friendly and helpful, which is important. The residents seemed happy. What we didn't like was the temperature was very, very chilly and he's elderly, so cold is a big issue. We weren't comfortable with that because the temperature was something he would not be able to tolerate. The staff said that it was colder than it usually was normally, and she said it's typically not that bad. Other than that, everybody seemed to be caring. The dining room was large and nice. It is a combination of assisted living and long-term care. I didn't look at the long-term care side of it, but they offer that and also rehabilitation. The staff during the tour was very helpful and answered all our questions succinctly. They're renovating, so they're adding to it."

"As far as I could see, the facilty was a friendly, clean, and safe environment for the seniors. My experience was a pleasant, and I can also say the same for our family friend. she seemed very happy, and comfortable. The staff accommodated me right when I walked in the door. the customer service was excellent. The nurses were very professional, and were right there when our friend needed them. In order to get help from the nurses, she could use her call light, and a nurse would be right there at her beck and call. I especially love the activities the facility provided. Our friend would play bingo, watch movies, and eat very well. The food is tastey, it wasn't your typical nursing home food. Sometime the facility was get food catered from well known resturants. The clean up crew does a really good job with keeping our friend's room clean, and changing her linens regularly. I really don't have any complaints so far. I would recommend this facility to anyone. After hearing all the horror stories from other people, about the other nursing home facilities, I was pleased with this facility. "

"I feel that most of the items in this particular facility are outdated. There is such a 70's feel to the place that you almost feel you have stepped back in time. The staff seems like they are spread too thin, and they are far too young. I often worry if residents are treated with the respect their age has earned them. The cleaning staff seems much friendlier and interactive than the nursing staff. "

"The Nursing Staff and Aides are great! Always feel very welcome when I enter the building to visit my family member. Very peaceful environment to be in. We love to.enjoy activities when we are there....whether it doing crafts or puzzles together. "

"I live in Mercy Siena Gardens in independent senior living. I'm having a good experience, and I like my apartment. We have carry-in dinners, play games, and have a bus that takes us to the grocery store. They have exercise classes, but I don't do them. We have our own nurse, chapel, and exercise room. "

"I was a resident there following a total knee replacement for physical therapy. I can't say enough good things about the physical therapy department!! Especially Emma!! She pushed me to my limits every day but she helped me achieve my goals so I could go home. My only complaint about this facility is the FOOD!!! It wasn't the Cook's fault. They did the best they could with what they had. But irregardless of that I will be returning when I get my other knee done. Loved the staff. They went above and beyond for me. Would definitely recommend if you're needing an awesome physical therapy rehab. I had a large private room. "
