"StoryPoint Troy was really nice. They had lots of amenities. They have a coffee klatsch, a pool room, an art room, and a really nice dining area for both breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They offer one meal a day as part of the package. They also have 24/7 contact in case you need help. The apartment that we looked at was a one bedroom, and it was pretty small, but nicely appointed the way they had it set up. The lady that toured me around was really nice and knowledgeable. She knew her stuff and gave us a lot of material to read, and pictures to look at and things like that. The only thing I had against the place was the price. It was way too expensive."

"I am on the waiting list at Brookdale Troy. What I like about the place is that they have a lot of mental activities. They start in the morning. and they go all out through after supper. The staff was very good. I saw their rooms, and it was just like a typical unit. "

"My tour at Landings of Sidney was great. Jenny did a really good job. She showed us around. We went into the office and discussed some questions. My father-in-law said that if he goes anywhere, he wants to go to this one. It was clean, and everybody was nice. He did walk down the hallway cause he knew a couple of people, and that's helpful that he already knows them. As far as the food goes, he gets three meals a day. They have a menu, and they have a chef. They have transportation if he needs it. All he has to do is go in and sit down and get his meal. They do his laundry, clean his apartment, and do just everything. All he has to do is just go in and enjoy himself. They have a game night where they play cards. If we want to come over and cook outside with him, we could do that too. They have a grill outside."

"Rooms are very nice. Bright and cheery with big windows. Bathroom is spacious enough to move around with a walker or wheelchair but not too big. Soooo many activities to choose from that stimulate the brain and body, from chair yoga, and drumming to music and animal therapy. We ate with Mom a few times and the meals and selections are wonderful. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We are at peace with this decision."

"Brookdale Centennial Park was a beautiful facility. The staff appeared to love each other like family, along with the residents. The facility was clean, and the rooms were extremely nice. The dining area was open, airy, and had plenty of room. The residents appeared to be enjoying themselves."

"Rooms are cleaned regularly, and needed maintenance is done timely. The staff is super friendly, always asking if there is anything else we need. The food is outstanding, and available almost any time of the day. There seems to be some sort of activity that Mom looks forward to, nearly every day. She is more outgoing and active at Danbury, than she ever was at home, and still maintains a vibrant social life outside of the residence. It’s been a big win for our family."

"Great place and glad my parents live there. What makes it great is the staff. For example, when my mom had to go to the nursing home for some rehab, the staff their treated her like a family member. The spent time with her, worked with her and she is now back in her cottage doing fine. Now that she is fine again, she is able to participate in a lot of the activities they have there, both staff and her neighbors help her anytime she needs it."

"I liked the size of Trustwell Living at Oakley Place. It was smaller and all on one level, so it presented a home-like atmosphere. Everybody was very nice and their programs were good. The staff who gave me the tour was not just professional, but she was very kind and very helpful in answering questions. We enjoyed her. We toured the rooms very nicely and thoroughly. We saw the eating areas and different rooms, and everything was very nice and clean. But the bedrooms were older and smaller."

"We toured Trustwell Living at Urbana Place. The ladies were very nice. They absolutely made my father feel more comfortable because he was not feeling comfortable. He will move there for respite. The lady who is in charge was extremely helpful. It is more of a home atmosphere with apartments. So, you have your privacy having an apartment instead of just having a room where somebody can walk in at any time. If my father leaves and feels uncomfortable about leaving his door unlocked, he can lock it. I was also amazed at how big the closets were, and the bathrooms were really, really large, too. It has a chair lift, which he uses to sleep, and so that will be just like home. He was very tickled to know that there's a microwave and a little refrigerator, and he can have his snacks and things there like he does at home. They told him to bring whatever he wanted that would make him feel more comfortable and make it more like home. They were just wonderful. Right now, they don't have a normal cook, so the staff is cooking. They're really putting forth a lot of effort into serving good meals that have flavor, and they said their residents are very happy with that. I was impressed with the people, probably more so than the facility. I think that the people make the facility a comfortable and happy place to live. They're very helpful, caring, and friendly. I thought the facility looked clean, but a little worn. The lounge was very inviting with the fireplace. They have a nice little summer room in the back where you could go. The lady had brought her own plates from home that had birds on them, and somebody else who lives in the community brought a clock that chirps, and I thought that was really cool."

"It’s been 6 weeks since my mother-in-law moved into Springfield. She thinks the food is very good. They do a couple entrees per meal, but if you don’t like the entrees, you can actually order off the menu. It is less expensive, but I still think the service, and everything is good for what you are paying. The food is more like a home cooked thing from what I have seen. They put the residents together and do something like a chat, and then the residents can make suggestions of what they would prefer to have. This is an ongoing kind of thing, so they do listen to residents about what they want to eat. When we moved in, they completely went through an update -- cleaned the carpets and then repainted everything -- so everything was nice and freshly done. They got a calendar, and that tells them what is offered each day in terms of activities. They might have their fingernails done, card games, or movie nights, and then they actually take them on day trips and things. The outside grounds needs to be raked up and cleaned up and put plants because the first impression is the look of it. They are doing some remodeling also on the inside, so I think they are in transition. But their outside ground is something they can probably take care of immediately. "

"I chose Northwood Assisted Living for my mother because of the room, it was clean, and the staff was very friendly. She's only been in there a few weeks, and we're still getting to know all the staff and everything. I'm looking for honesty with these people; I need to be told the truth. In some of the places I went to, they were just like car salesmen. But the people at Northwood seem genuine. My mom seems to like the food just fine. They have a big hall to eat dinner. I have seen a computer room. There are grocery stores nearby, Kroger's right down the road, and some restaurants like McDonald's, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell."

"Brookdale Oakwood is a very upscale community, but it’s not a good fit for my parents. They were working class all their lives and would be uncomfortable in the social environment there. I think the lady was very nice and did a nice job of taking us on a tour. We had a good lunch there. The dining area was very nice. They can take trips out if they want to, and there are groups that do crafts or cooking together. They were high-priced as far as the facilities and what’s available. They could use more parking there since they have limited parking. They don’t have a lot of residents, but families come to visit. "

"A family member that I was caring for lived at Garbry Ridge Assisted Living the past year until his passing. The staff as a whole is excellent. They went above and beyond in all aspects and made my Uncle's last year a very pleasant one! The accomodations are nice and very clean. The food is good and very appealingly served. I highly recommend this facility for a loved one! "

"Caldwell House was a really great place. The staff seemed really friendly and helpful. They called, and they checked up. Even after hours, they called and wanted to see what would be the best for my mom. They did a really good job. That’s probably where she would have gone had she stayed. Their programs seemed really nice, and they catered to their residents. It seemed like a really nice place. "

"The staff in Dorothy Love Retirement Community is fabulous. The whole place is fabulous. I was impressed with the facility itself, how everything is new and up-to-date. The area that my mother-in-law is in is kept off from every place else. She's with about 16 other residents and they're able to come and go in that one small area as much as they want. She actually loves it there. "

"It seemed nice enough. It seemed like it would work well for my father. It seemed like it would be a good facility for him. It's close by, so we would be able to check on him frequently without any problems. He knows the area because he's from New Carlisle originally. We were fairly impressed. It was clean and the facility seemed like it offered everything that you would need. The people there were friendly and helpful, which is important. The residents seemed happy. What we didn't like was the temperature was very, very chilly and he's elderly, so cold is a big issue. We weren't comfortable with that because the temperature was something he would not be able to tolerate. The staff said that it was colder than it usually was normally, and she said it's typically not that bad. Other than that, everybody seemed to be caring. The dining room was large and nice. It is a combination of assisted living and long-term care. I didn't look at the long-term care side of it, but they offer that and also rehabilitation. The staff during the tour was very helpful and answered all our questions succinctly. They're renovating, so they're adding to it."
