Assisted Living Communities in Xenia, OH

"We visited the assisted living facility of Fairmont of Washington Township, and it's really beautiful. It was just a little out of our price range. The lady who runs it was wonderful. She just had a really great personality and was very kind to my parents. My parents, my mom especially, loved her. She's very helpful, and she still calls every now and then. We were able to sample the food, and it was very good. It was nice that they had options on their menu. The facility was very clean and very nice."

"I toured The Carlyle House Assisted Living Community. It's a small independently owned facility, and it was recommended by our attorney for assisted living and memory care. There wasn't any availability there. I did look at their assisted living apartments, very nice, with a very small kitchen, and food area, but it was all very nice. I did go over and look at the memory care area. It's a small facility. The person who assisted me was friendly and had lots of information."

"10 Wilmington Place was huge. It would initially be difficult to find your way around, but I know they would provide directions and maps. It was a beautiful facility and everything looked in order. We even had lunch and I was interested in trying the food because you hear of so many of the institutional type places where the food is awful, but the food tasted as if it could have come from any restaurant. The floor plans were workable. The staff was very professional, very friendly, and knowledgeable. I saw one deluxe studio and a one-bedroom place, but the studio I saw was one of a kind in the whole complex and it had a lot of extra storage, which would have been nice. The storage in a regular studio is tiny and half of my furniture would have to be storage pieces to accommodate. It seemed like they had a good activities program and lots of amenities, transportation, and home health. Other services like that are available at an extra charge, of course. They had adequate laundry facilities, a free library, and a beauty salon."

"We toured Brookdale Oakwood. It was clean, had a nice smell, and was very well-organized. The patient or the client seemed satisfied and happy. We toured the whole site, so I got a very good perspective of what living there would be like. So, that would be a nice place for my friend. The person who gave the tour was very friendly and informative. They gave me some samples of their menus. They include three meals a day, laundry, and activity. They went through a list of things that were included, as well as showing me the things that were a la carte."

"I liked The Wellington at Dayton. They were nice, but they wouldn't do the home dialysis for my mom. I saw a room. They have a refrigerator and microwave. The staff was good. The dining area is restaurant type."

"We went to Stoney Ridge Senior Living. It's very nice. We liked it very much. We were there around lunchtime. So there were a lot of residents out and eating together and interacting, which we liked. The staff seemed to be friendly. They gave us a lot of good information because we were new at this. So, we don't necessarily know the good information to even ask. And so they provided a lot of information. They gave us a great packet to look over. It was very attractive and open feeling, so it felt more like a hotel than a community. The rooms were very nice. There were several options as far as whether you just wanted a studio or a bedroom separate from a living room or a bedroom and then the bath. They seemed to have a lot of people that they kept the whole time. They don't have to like, once they pass assisted living, they don't have to go somewhere else for more nursing care. They seemed to have quite a few activities going on for the residents. They had all that on calendars and menus and the whole thing. They invited us so we could make that decision and we think that maybe we'll take my dad over to see the place at lunchtime. On Fridays, they have music at lunchtime. I like that even outside the doors they had "Home of" and the person's name. So, they just seemed like they were trying to make it a personal touch, a choice to be there. The facility was very clean. We saw people cleaning while we were there, and it was just very open and very inviting."

"I only toured Danbury Huber Heights. The staff was great. They were incredibly kind. The building itself was immaculate. It's very clean. I don't feel like there were things out of place or anything of that nature. It was overall one of the best facilities that I've toured. We came in and right in the front is a lobby. It has a fireplace TV. I thought that was really nice. There were about five residents that were ladies sitting out there and talking. They had a patio, which I absolutely loved, that mom could go out and sit on. They have wi-fi. My mom does have a Kindle, so that was something we were looking at to make sure that she had access here. I love the scenery and the area that it's at. There is construction going on across the way, but it's beautiful all around and very neat, tidy, and tucked away. It's not on a busy road or anything like that, so we really liked that as well. The staff answered all the silly questions that I had. Amy did a phenomenal job of taking time out of her day just to kind of reassure us that this would be a great fit for my mom. Her and Jamie both really went the extra mile just to reassure me over and over that this was the right move for us. Everyone was extremely kind. Even the staff that wasn't on tour, just the staff we interacted with along the way, was incredibly kind."

"We went to Springfield Assisted Living and I love the screened-in porch. The staff who toured us was very nice. I have friends that live there. They said they had activities. They had a microwave and a larger fridge. Each apartment had its own screened-in porch."

"My parents have moved into Northwood Assisted Living. The area is nice where they're at. They have a pond outside their place and it has ducks and stuff, so they're enjoying that. The apartment that they live in is nice and roomy. They have activities, and they have a place where they can walk outside and it's pretty. Dad plays the guitar, so all the residents can hear that. I know the staff is very nice to them, although sometimes they get treated as children, and I don't like that. I wish that the staff would realize that this is their home now. They knock and they come in, in their apartments and I just don't like that because that's their home. I want them to be treated with respect. The dining area looks nice, and the people there are nice. They get three meals a day and there's coffee all the time. I always think it's too expensive. There's therapy there."

"Grace Brethren Village was a pretty good place and very homey. They had plenty of nursing aides and RNs, and plenty of things to do on your own or with your family. The staff was nice and very knowledgeable. The facility was OK. I saw people wandering around doing things."

"Optimized Senior Living Lebanon had availability, and I went in there, took a look at a room, and walked around the kitchen, and they had a little community center there. It was alright. They had a nurse practitioner on call 24/7, a few nurses on staff, and nurses' aides. It seemed pretty nice, but it was kind of expensive. They gave me a booklet. It gave me all the information and it is very helpful and very thorough. What I saw was a one-bedroom apartment. Mom had everything she needed to live in that apartment. They had a 24/7 kitchen that she could go in, get something, and make something. They had a little rec place where they played games, watched TV, or played piano. The two things I didn't like were the $3500 nonrefundable deposit, but they say that that's used for when a person leaves, they have to paint and repair patches and anything on the wall. Plus the $7500 they require you for a couple of months' rent upfront. They had everything. It's just expensive. They didn't have actual doctors. They had a nurse practitioner 24/7 on call. There were some things that I liked a lot and there were some other things I didn't like as much. They come in once a month and do your hair and massage and stuff like that. Everything was well taken care of."

"Inn At Renaissance Village was very good. I had a very difficult time deciding between this one and another facility because they were comparable. They basically had the same kind of focus, and so it was really difficult to decide between the two. The staff was helpful. They were very nice. I didn't have any problem with them. "

"Otterbein Lebanon SeniorLife Community is excellent. We went to various places. We saw standalone places, we saw places that were kind of like apartment situations, and we saw the activity centers and that sort of thing. The staff who gave the tour was excellent. They have about everything you need to have from houses and two-bedrooms all the way to nursing home setting. I saw one of the restaurants, a game room, the area where they play outside, and their little lake or pool or whatever. They're very nice. The food was excellent. I had lunch there."

"Aaron's Garden Senior Living & Memory Care was beautiful. It was great. There was nothing wrong with the community, but we wanted a single apartment for my father. We did not want a bedroom where he would walk out into the hallway. It was a beautiful setup. He loved it as far as if he was at that point to go there at a different time, yes, but not at this stage in his life. The people during the tour were very pleasant. It's very clean. The common areas were very pleasant."
