Nursing Home Communities in Fort Belvoir, VA

"My mother has been here for almost 5 years. When you first walk in you are greeted by the very warm and friendly reception staff. Marcia, Janet and Rita know everyone's names and have so much patience with everyone. Debbie and the rest of the entertainment staff have lots of activities and parties with favors for every holiday and special occasion. The staff in the dining room especially Lindsay are wonderful with the residents. My mother has worked with the on site physical therapist Kevin and occupational therapist Roberta who do great work. It's a great benefit to have them in house. We really like all of the activities in the different rooms. We've had family dinners in the small dining room and my mothers 90th birthday party in the lounge. The lounge is also a great place for watching sports. There also a bistro where poker and bridge are played and you can get a glass of wine or a snack. Roger runs the bistro where coffee is always available. The bistro opens to an outdoor patio where they have barbecues. There are movies and weekly music entertainment in the family room. There's also a movie theater and activities room upstairs. Off of the entrance there's a library with a fireplace. It's a nice semi private area to read a book. When of the best things about Heatherwood is all the different rooms and activities that take place in them. I've toured some places that only have one large open room for activities and they seem more institutional. Heatherwood's living room with the fireplace, the bistro with its European decor, the club like decor of the lounge and the cozy library make it very homey yet elegant."

"My brother is at Burke Health & Rehabilitation Center. The care seems good. They seemed to be attentive. The food is OK. The OT and PT are very good. They seem to be adequately staffed, which is something that's kind of unusual in the rehab facilities that we've been in in the past. I can generally find somebody and they come in pretty quickly. It seems to be older, but it's clean."

"My father is currently at Envoy of Woodbridge. The facility is outstanding, and the staff is fantastic. They treat me very nicely. Their dining area is outstanding. I haven’t tasted the food, but my father seemed OK with it, and to me it looked good. They do a variety of activities from what I could see. They have games, and the time I was there I saw that they have a TV for football. I would recommend this facility to anyone. "

"Somebody referred Manorcare to us. They gave me the address so I visited it. The facility was very good. The staff accommodated me right away. They're very good. I would recommend this place. "

"My Father is getting treated for a UTI and other issues after coming out of Fairfax hospital. The care here is good quality care, I love the activities director and the folks in the rehab center they are professional and truely care about my dad. My aunt has been in and out of Alexandria hospital and we are looking for a rehab facility for her as well. We are signing papers for Golden Living as well , now I have 2 family members that are going to have great care here. I agree with reviews stating some parts of the facility is outdated but the nurses and the staff care about my dad, they know him and his needs very well. I trust them. "

"I went to visit a friend in Goodwin House Alexandria. It was excellent and it's probably expensive. The room was fine, it was like it was luxurious, and it was very nice. It was excellent, it was very clean, beautifully maintained; it was a beautiful place. It was a huge complex, and I just got in and got out. I saw my friend in the nursing section, I walked through other parts of it, and it was beautiful."

"Our Mother was recently in Woodbine for rehab. We were very pleased with the facilities and staff during her two week stay. "

"Online research suggests most skilled nursing homes are given poor ratings by upset family members. Envoy has poor ratings too. However, after learning online what questions to ask while considing rehab, a tour and meeting the staff, we chose to go there. Our experience was good. My father came for rehab. physical therapy was great, food was decent but the nurses could have been nicer. "

"Goodwin House Bailey's Crossroads was definitely in a nice location as far as the availability of grocery stores and some stores and being able to walk around. Their facilities looked very well maintained. Everybody seemed to be very pleasant and enthusiastic. We saw a couple of the apartments, and they looked very good. They refurbish each apartment before you get it. So when you go in, you've got new carpeting and new appliances. Every 12 years, regardless of whether you're still in it, they redo it. The facilities looked good. The swimming pool was big. The food was good. We had lunch there. I wouldn't say it's a five-star restaurant, but it was adequate."

"I put my mom in a regular nursing home, Fort Washington Health & Rehabilitation Center. I chose them because it's convenient, and they have physical therapy, and she's in there for short- and long-term. The staff members are professional. They are sensitive to my needs and my mother's needs, and they're taking very good care of her. I have fed my mother, but I haven't eaten the food myself. The food looks good though. They have a calendar of activities, but my mother has not participated yet. They have bingo and arts and crafts. It seems they can get into the activity room. They have a number of things. They have trips that I found interesting. It's also near a shopping center. There's a hospital and there's a CVS pharmacy."

"My mother is in Carlin Springs Health & Rehabilitation in Arlington. The nursing staff is very attentive, and they've been very proactive about communication. I have very high marks for the staff. It's an older facility, but they got a lot of stuff that they've done to make it capable of being a memory care facility. It's a single room, single bed, and it's a good size for one person. They have an activities director who's actively trying to get my mother engaged in things all the time. I know they've been trying to get her involved in music, in going to church, and in other interactions with other patients. They gave me a list of all the things they are trying to get her into."

"This facility treated my great-grandfather with the upmost respect. The staff was very friendly and treated all of us like family. They even had a cat that would wonder the floor, or building I should say. It was just a stray cat and when asked about it they said that the residents really enjoyed it so they didn't want to put it out. "

"I have very high regard for The Virginian. My wife stayed in their skilled nursing facility for about 50 days. The service was good and the meals were terrific. They fed my wife along with the other residents of the skilled nursing facility the same menu as the residents who were fed on independent living and assisted living areas of the facility. The staff was outstanding. They published a calendar of activities and brought them to my wife's attention, but there was no interest. The pricing seemed to be not that bad compared to other senior facilities. I would rank them very highly on the cost side. Given the pricing information on what it would cost, it seemed competitively pretty good. A woman by the name of Lorna, who manages one of the wings of the skilled nursing facility, went out of her way on the day of my wife's discharge from the hospital. This lady kept her office open till about 7:15 in the evening to ensure that my wife could be fully checked in. But that was just one of many, many five-star things that the skilled nursing facility did for my wife while she was there."

"My brother stayed at the nursing center. As his POC I dealt with many of the employees there. I had one issue that required assistance from the staff to help me resolve and the Director of Social Services at Fairfax Nursing helped me to get it resolved and also to put my mind at ease. I think Dir of Social Services does an incredible job for Fairfax Nursing Center."
