The food is absolutely delicious. The best food I've ever had at a community and I've been to a lot of communities. The staff is so warm and caring and it seems like they truly care about their residents.

I was not impressed with Heatherwood Retirement Community. The overall vibe was that it was for old people. The staff during the tour was late. I think he's overextended because he has two properties to take care of. The receptionist was very nice. The units were so unimpressive. They were small. The people I was with were also unimpressed. The building was small, but it was clean and the setting was very pretty. The grounds were not bad. It was in a wooded area.

My father lived at Heatherwood for 15 months, arriving just prior to the Covid shutdowns. The activities schedule was full of interesting and exciting offerings, the exercise machines were soon to be available in a dedicated room...so much to do for social and physical engagement. Understandably, Heatherwood locked down tight once Covid hit and policies were established to keep residents safe. I have nothing but good things to say about Heatherwood. The apartments are very clean and roomy with plenty of storage, and contain a full kitchen. Every staff member I engaged with was helpful and courteous... not insignificant given the times we were in. There has been a recent changeover in Executive Director, and both individuals were attentive to my family's concerns and questions, and engaged with residents. Dad's medical appointments and needs were well coordinated by the staff there. Extra therapies (speech) were suggested and tips for the family were given. I can't thank everyone individually who cared for my Dad, but my sisters and I all felt that he was well cared for at Heatherwood. He moved recently to be near family, but I would not hesitate to recommend Heatherwood as a facility for a loved one.

Heatherwood was extremely helpful in expediting an apartment for my dad to move into after his recovery in rehab was sooner than expected. His apartment is the one bedroom and is perfect for his needs. The staff had to be very patient with him as he was very confused by the move and new environment. There are a lot of entertaining offers of music and cocktails and lectures as well as classes in crafts and painting and flower arranging. As his daughter, I was very happy with his introductory care and the kindness that was shown to him and still experiences.

Heatherwood Retirement Community wanted my mother to move into their Aarondale facility where they said they had a higher ratio of people on Mom's care level. They had more people that could help her, but she was so mad at having to move that she didn't want to consider their other facility. They have large rooms and full kitchens. They're undergoing renovations, and they already finished the first floor. They have two more floors to do. They didn't have enough staff members, but the staff-to-patient ratio was much better than others. Some of the staff members were excellent. They have a laundry facility that you can use. They did mom's laundry twice a week as most places will only do it once a week. However, family members can do it whenever they want to. When they're done renovating, it will be really pretty everywhere. The chef was a jewel, so nice, and so good. The head of the medical was competent, but her personality did not shine through. She's not a smiley person.

My mom has been living at Heatherwood Retirement Community for a month, and so far we're very pleased with everything. The people and the facility are great. It's a super convenient location for us which is the key thing. Her apartment was remodeled right before my mom moved in and it has a full kitchen. They have outings, Bingo, movies, and physical stuff. They have a little church service they do on the weekends. The food is not gourmet, but it's pretty good. The staff is really nice, friendly, and seemed to be doing their job really well. They're also engaged with the residents. The facilities are on the old side, but they're being renovated. It's very good value.

I didn't like Heatherwood Retirement Community at all. There was nothing going on there. It was exactly like a nursing home, not like an assisted living facility. The people were sitting in wheelchairs in the lobby and not talking to each other. Nothing ws going on, and the food choices were few and far between. The employees in an assisted living facility must be advised that they should be happy and smiling and engaging people when they walk in. As I walked in, one of the employees was walking out. I said, "Hello," and she said nothing to me. She had a sour look on her face and I thought to myself, "That's not the place I want my mom to be."

Excellent and compassionate care during rehab after my mothers back surgery. All questions were answered promptly and accurately, nursing staff responded promptly when called and the physical therapy department is awesome. As a health care provider I highly recommend Burke Health and Rehab Center,

My mother has been here for almost 5 years. When you first walk in you are greeted by the very warm and friendly reception staff. Marcia, Janet and Rita know everyone's names and have so much patience with everyone. Debbie and the rest of the entertainment staff have lots of activities and parties with favors for every holiday and special occasion. The staff in the dining room especially Lindsay are wonderful with the residents. My mother has worked with the on site physical therapist Kevin and occupational therapist Roberta who do great work. It's a great benefit to have them in house. We really like all of the activities in the different rooms. We've had family dinners in the small dining room and my mothers 90th birthday party in the lounge. The lounge is also a great place for watching sports. There also a bistro where poker and bridge are played and you can get a glass of wine or a snack. Roger runs the bistro where coffee is always available. The bistro opens to an outdoor patio where they have barbecues. There are movies and weekly music entertainment in the family room. There's also a movie theater and activities room upstairs. Off of the entrance there's a library with a fireplace. It's a nice semi private area to read a book. When of the best things about Heatherwood is all the different rooms and activities that take place in them. I've toured some places that only have one large open room for activities and they seem more institutional. Heatherwood's living room with the fireplace, the bistro with its European decor, the club like decor of the lounge and the cozy library make it very homey yet elegant.

I had the pleasure of visiting a friend who resides at Heatherwood Retirement Community. This community is very impressive, clean and welcoming. From the moment I walked in, I was warmly greeted by the receptionist as well as other staff. My friend who has been living there for a few months has been extremely pleased and happy with all of the wonderful amenities, particularly the food which is 5 star quality. She said that had she know retirement living would be so great, she would have moved in sooner. I certainly know where I will go when it's time for me to retire!

Heatherwood provides an amazing level of care in a beautiful facility. My sister has lived there for the past year after relocating from another state due to failing health. Although her health issues are significant, she's bright and alert and extremely social. The Heatherwood community is a Godsend for her! I don't think she's had this good a quality of life for quite a few years. I also am able to have peace of mind knowing that she is well monitored and in a positive, caring environment.

We are very happy with Heatherwood Retirement. My father has a very nice one-bedroom apartment there and he has three meals. There’s lot of activities, and the place is very clean. The staff is very cordial, nice, and respectful. My dad isn’t 100% happy because he has to leave his house. Overall, of the few places that we looked at, we liked this one best. It’s nice there and so far, we have been very happy.

The one that I have had the most experience with is Burke Nursing Home (Burke Healthcare Center). I was there five months and liked it. It’s not fancy, but as far as the staff was concerned, the nurses and the aides and all, they were very good to me. It looked like a nursing home and was not somewhere I wanted to live forever. My care was very good, though. The staff was very good. They had activities in the dining area and game night. We did not go out on excursions or anytihng, but they treated you well and if you have someone who would escort you, you could always bring them to walk you. The grounds were pretty. The rooms were shared rooms. My first time there, I had a great roommate. I did not find their rooms unreasonable. For what I needed, Burke Healthcare Center was good.

My mother lives in Heatherwood. She’s been at Heatherwood for one year. The facility is a very nice facility. She has her own apartment. They have studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedrooms apartments. We got her a one-bedroom. My brother and I checked out several places before we chose Heatherwood. Heatherwood was the nicest one we could find in that price range. The other thing that was attractive about Heatherwood is the location; it’s halfway between where I live and my brother lives. They have 24-hour nursing care, nurses on-site, and they have nurse's aides who check on her at least every two hours. They make sure she gets all her meals and activities. They have several things going on every day. Because she has the assisted-living package, she gets three meals a day. If you don’t have assisted living and you’re just paying basic, you get one meal a day.

Heatherwood is a rental independent/assisted living facility. Rent includes 1 meal daily, weekly housekeeping, monthly wellness checks, numerous activities, 24 hour daily nursing staff in house in case of emergency and emergency call lights. There is PT and OT on site (added charge of course), and a podiatrist visits (I think monthly) and a wonderful physician has a small office on site and visits once or twice weekly. Assisted living services are also available as needed at 4 levels of care and price. The facility is very nice with a lovely lobby area, 2 sitting areas with fireplaces right off the lobby, a beautiful dining area, a private dining room that can be reserved, a large family room with a grand piano, a club lounge and also a bistro, a library, a theater room, a chapel, various activity areas, laundry facilities (no charge) on each floor, sitting areas on each floor, a large patio and other outdoor sitting areas, a nurses station and a PT room. The staff is for the most part kind and helpful, and the administration is responsive to concerns. The food is good. My mom has been happy at Heatherwood for over 4 years. The resident population skews towards the older, more infirm elderly. Small pets are allowed as long as the resident can take care of the pet.

When my friend's mom was still alive, she was at Burke Health and Rehab. It was pretty OK -- the main problem I had was with the personnel from West Africa. They speak their own languages and it makes you feel like they are talking about you. Most of them were not friendly, but I know they were competent workers. It was their language that bothered me a lot. Their rooms were like hospital rooms. With their activities, they liked to have musical groups come in. They had dogs visiting and I am sure there are a couple of other things, but I just can't recall right now.

I looked at 6 places, and Heatherwood just seems to fit my dad. The staff is fine. They are nice and good. The room is about average. It is more the atmosphere that sold the place to me. I like that it is warm. They offer activities like movies, games, poker, talks, church -- pretty much what the others are offering.

I like the location and the amenities that Heatherwood Retirement offers. It has been very good for my mom. The staffing level is appropriate and I think they're very caring people. I have always found them to be very helpful. The facility is kept very clean. They beautifully decorated the facility during Christmas and Thanksgiving, and they had a lovely Christmas party for the residents and their families. They even have Santa Claus for the grandchildren with presents. I have found them to be willing to go the extra mile. My mother's room has a full bath, a kitchen, and large enough for a loveseat and tables, chest for her clothes, and closets to keep her wheelchair and her coats. Someone would come in to clean her room thoroughly once a week. The food for the most part is good. They have a little bistro area, library, a large outside patio area, sunroom with wicker furniture, and a large meeting room where there's a large screen TV for special presentations. They also have some folks who would come to help them with arts and crafts. They also have a residents' group that help to address any problems that they might have with management.

Heatherwood Retirement Community in Burke, Virginia is a wonderful, inviting community! Residents get to live in apartments with the added benefit of caregivers that are on site twenty-four hours a day. This is a wonderful environment for elderly people who still want to be independent but may need more care in their old age. The apartments have a lot of space and are easily accessable for those who may need help with mobility due to needing a walker or wheelchair. The community has a gym, a chapel, and many other recreational features for residents and their guests to enjoy! They have parking for those who drive, as well as transportation for those who don't. They even have an on-site pharmacy! Each apartment has it's own bathroom and kitchenette, as well as emergency call services so that residents can get in touch with a nurse when needed. The staff are very friendly and helpful! Room service is offered as well. It is a warm and loving environment and many of the apartments have a pretty view! I would feel very confident that my grandmother would be taken care of at Heatherwood!

This facility is well built and well maintained, and decorated like a comfortable but upscale home. The staff is friendly and respectful, very familiar with all the residents. The head nurse knew my grandmother used to be a nurse, and addressed her as an esteemed peer. The staff kept a close eye on her and her eating habits, and were instrumental in identifying when her dementia worsened.
