"My friend moved into Harmony at Spring Hill. It's very pretty and clean. The staff that I've dealt with have been very attentive and helpful. There seems to be a lot of activities, like bingo and movies, typically twice a day. They have a little theater room and they pop popcorn and the residents request the movies. They take them out, like yesterday she got to go to WalMart. They take them to WalMart once a month and to the grocery store once a week. She has a studio room. It's small, but a little more than I thought it would be. It's pretty spacious. So far, she says the food has been good. The best part about this place is that she gets to bring her dog."

"We toured The Fairfax, and my aunt used to live there. We saw the rooms and the units and everything. We walked around there, and we ate there. So, it meets all of our criteria except for the cost. The staff all appeared to be busy and helpful, like you would expect. We had a good tour. They have different types of displays there. They had a display for when they would do a buffet, like in the hallway, where you could nibble on. So, they had good food that looked good. The location was good. The one my aunt had was a two-bedroom with a part in the middle and then a bedroom on either side. They always take care of their rooms whenever we've been in them."

"I visited Sunrise at Silas Burke House. They offer assisted living too, but I didn't see that area, just the memory care. It was a gorgeous facility. They have an outdoor area for the people there, and the memory care is beautiful. It had beautiful furniture. It's a good size. That was the one that I was considering for my friend. The staff was very nice. It was immaculate, new, and very clean. I was very impressed. The hard thing about that one is I was dealing with one lady over the phone, and then I went to see that facility on a day she wasn't working, and then another person took me, but they were both very nice to me, answered my questions and all. The lady I talked to on the phone was very personable and caring."

"This is the best place I visited and today confirmed what I suspected would be good for my husband. Not only Brittany, Raphael and Mellissa are the best but also all of the others. "Moving into Oaks of Wellington went smoothly. The building's entrances have security set up on the doors, and they think of everything ahead of time. They've been on this location now for 15 years or maybe longer. The community is immaculately kept. Along the long hallway, each apartment has a space where they can display things to give them their own identity. The people who lives there went out of their way to say hello In the hallway, they all say, "Hello! How are you?" I like that very much. It's difficult to live in this kind of place because people don't make eye contact, but not in this community. The apartment itself is well cared for, clean and immaculate. I'm enjoying it. I have a two-bedroom twp-bath with a balcony and washer and dryer in the space. You feel self-sufficient and have your independence, so I'm very happy. I have a good feeling about it, and people who live here for a while go out of their way to tell me how much they enjoy it. I've already been welcomed each day of the week, there's a group of women to meet and chat with. It's a nice way to meet people and I can ask questions about the apartment complex and things like that. When I made the rental agreement, they provided me with quite a bit of information, and there are guidelines on what to do and not to do in the apartments. The rules are very fair, don't impose on your liberty, and respectful of the other residents. The staff you meet in the hallways are very outgoing and friendly. The staff in the office are very open and prompt in answering your questions. I had a problem with the heating and it was gone within a day of me letting them know about it. I feel like I've joined a sorority, there are quite a few women here and there are lots of opportunity to build friendships. It's a very good feeling. There are no meals provided because it's independent living. But they had cookies and what have you, available each day. The layout is good, and getting through the door and up the elevator when you have a disability was very convenient. This afternoon they had a pizza get together and a get-together at least once a week that encourages everyone to come out and attend. There's a hundred residents living here, so many people don't come out. They had church services in the morning and evening on Sundays, an indoor swimming pool, and a fitness room that's well equipped. Once a month we make payments, and I found this community more economical than others. I also found out when signing the contract, they had a discount for Verizon services."

"Commonwealth Senior Living at Manassas cares about the people. I saw several staff and the way that they were handling and talking with people, they seemed very hands-on. They said hi to me and they were very friendly. The rooms are beautiful and very clean. They have a wonderful garden that has a fence around it so they can go out in the garden, and there's a place to walk around, but they're secure. There's no way they could get away from someone that's not watching and go somewhere. It's right off a busy road, but it's in a semi-quiet area. There are stores and all the kinds of things on the other side and back off a few blocks from where they're at. It's very well placed. There's no smell of what nursing homes used to be like. It's very clean and it smells good. It looks well-kept."

"My dad will move in. The staff seemed very warm and welcoming. It was clean and nice. It seemed that everyone was engaged. It felt more like home. They made me feel very at ease and very welcomed. It was just very comforting. They were very pleasant. The place is very neat. They have activities at the memory care unit. They have an activities person, too. They have a courtyard. They have the things that I was interested in."

"I toured the assisted living of Spring Hills Mount Vernon. It was set up differently. They had the chef come out and talk to me. The chef had food and fed me, and it was good. The exercise people were there too with all kinds of things going on. They showed me what was happening there. I think they had beauty and a barbershop, too. It was just expensive. The person who gave the tour was very nice. My family was with me and they said it looked really nice. It was more updated and bigger than the other ones we've seen. I felt good about that place. I went to apply and get my funds and stuff going but I didn't have enough money because they kicked up the price. The pricing wasn't good. If these places would come down a little, they'd be more affordable for a lot more people. "

"I toured Arden Courts of Annandale. They were very thorough. They were ready for me and greeted me well. They explained everything. It's not a fancy place, but it was very clean."

"We were able to tour Braddock Glen's assisted living. They have a good amount of residents living there. It's not huge, and it's very clean. It has a lot of sitting areas for activities, too. They even offer Chinese food, which is a big plus to Asians. I was there after lunch, so I was not able to see their food, but I saw the menu posted. The staff is also very friendly and professional."

"My uncle moved to Sunrise at Mount Vernon. We chose it for him because it was very inviting when I walked in, the nurse and staff all treated the residents with respect, and the food was good. I got a nice and warm feeling when I went in. My uncle's room is small. It's like a dorm-type, but he has everything in there that he can do, like having a nice-sized bathroom. The only thing that he doesn't care for too much is the shower being low. It's on the floor, and the water comes out. He's very conscientious about that and saying, "Oh, I don't like to take a shower because the water is coming out on the floor.", but I know that the lip is small because they want to use it for wheelchair accessibility. The facility is very clean. They invited us to a nice program for the 4th of July, and the whole family was able to come. It was really nice."
