Greenspring Village had more things happening than the other place. Also, I felt like the people who were living there seemed to be more independent. They had younger, more varied age groups. We met my mom's friend, and then she took us on a tour, and we had lunch with her. The food was excellent. My mom's friend's apartment was good-sized. Her kitchen was larger than the kitchen my mom has in her townhouse. It was nice. I liked that a lot.

Everything looked impressive when first visiting to look at the facility for our parents. However there have been a number of disappointing issues since we moved them in last year. First, we specifically chose an apartment with a dining room that offered wait service since they both use walkers. When we put down a large deposit, we were assured that staff would wait on tables for dinner in the dining room. Immediately after they moved in we were told that the dining room no longer offered wait service but was a buffet. Well that is not practical when they are pushing a walker. Administrative communication has been extremely poor in many cases with emails and phone calls unreturned. The care at medical center in Garden Ridge was often disappointing as well. Both my Mom and Dad had been there. Some of the CNA's were good but just as many were rude and neglectful. Same with nursing staff. My mom was there after a hospital visit and receiving an IV that had to be run once a day. On more than one occasion, a nurse came and ran it and then later another nurse came to run it unaware that it had been done. Fortunately my Mom is very clear and alert, but patients with any level of dementia would be in trouble. And a very loud alarm goes off when the IV is completed. One day she was left with the alarm blaring for 20 minutes while waiting for a nurse to return and shut it off. The medicine she was receiving caused severe laxative effect. We asked both the Dr & nurses repeatedly for 2 weeks to please give her something. They said they would but never did until finally a different Dr visted & gave her immodium. On multiple occasions she was told a Doctor would come see her & they never showed up. Mom was sent to the ER one day due to a blood result reading that we later found out had been taken 10 days previously. She was gone for 7 hours, poked & prodded, but mostly left waiting & waiting before being sent back to rehab. The blood results showed no problem whatsover. It was very exhausting for a 92 year old and completely unnecessary. Also on more than one occasion both late at night and early in the morning she was awakened by very loud yelling right outside her room - apparently the staff were fighting with one another and security had to be called. Totally unprofessional! Not the level of care you want for your loved one.

Mom has been at Greenspring for rehab. It’s a very good community. What I like about this facility is that it is very clean with very supportive people. The nurses were good at what they do, and they were attentive as well. Their food is also good. In their cafeteria, you get to sit with whoever you want to sit rather than being assigned. Mom seemed to have a lot of enjoyment being there.

We visited Greenspring. I liked its location. It was near the things we wanted to go to. We saw the dining room, but we didn't visit any apartments. It was huge, which was one thing that I didn't like about it.

Mom is in Greenspring and the facility is updated and clean. She's receiving very good care. She's having physical and occupational therapy. They all have private rooms and the food is very good.
