"My mom is in The Medical Resort At Pearland. I can never get in contact with her and they never let them know that family called, I have to go up there. They had a bug problem a week ago, and they finally took care of that. I asked the nurses about the level of care she would start with and they'd meet the caseworker for her, but when I talked to the administrator she never got the message. I don't care for it at all, so I'm pretty sure she won't be there for long. The food is always cold, they had to always heat the residents' food because it came in cold. It's dry and it's disgusting, so I bring her food. I wouldn't bring my dog there, the place sucks overall. The nurses are rude. They sit there and let the phone ring all night long, they don't answer it. On the first night they transferred her, they were outside for 30 minutes, because the nurse decided she didn't want to open the door on her shift. The paramedic called me and told me they've been there for 30 minutes outside with my mom on a stretcher because they couldn't get in. The lady said she's coming but didn't come and didn't say when she's coming again so they had to call me. The physical facility is nice. It's just that the bugs, the staff, and the food, those things suck. My mom is doing therapy, but other than that, because of COVID, they're just staying in their rooms. It's horrible that her insurance is paying for a place that's not a good place at all."

"My sister chose Terra Bella Health and Wellness Suites for Mom because it's close to her. It's not a bad place, but it's not what I would have picked because it's too far. I want to get my mom close to where I am. I've gone there on good days and I've gone there on bad days. The room is enough for two people. She has a roommate. It has one bathroom, but they have their own closets, dresser, and stuff like that. There's a curtain between them for privacy. They have everything there. They have a beauty shop, dining, and a little church. Sometimes, it's not up-to-date as far as being clean like I want it to be. Other than that, it is a nice place. They have a place for recreation. They have walking trails."

"My mother has moved into Capstone Healthcare Estates on Orem. The staff is very supportive in guiding me through the process. They are very helpful. The facility is very nice. It is well-maintained and clean. She seems to like the food. I just had a few incidents with them as far as bathing and stuff, but she's been pretty much on schedule since then. They have various activities. They have bingo, social hours, and a women's group. For the holidays, they've brought in choirs to sing and musicians to play. There were just a couple of issues that had to be resolved, like it took them a long time to fix the TV."

"We have found a place for my mom, and it's called Magnolia Crossing and Rehabilitation Center. She seems to be settled in. She's been there for a couple of weeks now and seems to be happy. She has a roommate; she likes it. The food is pretty good. We're very pleased. It's close to our house, so we can get there easily. All of my children are close, too, so they like to go visit as well. There were two things that we saw happening when we went to visit Magnolia Crossing. One, there were many staff members available. It is a smaller facility, and instead of six wings, there are four, so they're able to be a little bit more present. The second is that they have showers in the bathroom. They don't have to go down to a group shower down the hall. We don't have any complaints at this point. The decor is appealing, and it's clean. It was Mother's 93rd birthday a couple of days after we moved her in, and the activity folks brought balloons to the room. They're cheerful and attentive. We have had an interaction with everyone so far. The food has been pretty good, according to Mother. Mother is getting some PT. We didn't realize she was able to get some, so we're pleased about that. She doesn't get engaged in bingo and things like that, but they do have activities going on. Regarding value for money, they have accepted her on her monetary ability, so that was a huge thing, too."

"Park Manor of South Belt was lovely. The people were just very nice. Everything was pleasant and the rooms were very clean. They had all kinds of activities for the residents, like exercise programs, games, and things like that. The place was also very well laid out. I have visited some people that I knew and who were there in the past, and they were very pleased with it."

"Unless this is the last place taking residents, please go somewhere else. Upon visiting everything was presented as nice and happy patients, etc. Upon being admitted, staff were too lazy, uncommitted or whatever you can think of to help the residents. There was plenty of staff sitting around doing nothing. My relative fell and needed stitches but they refused to seek medical assistance. It took them 13 hours to get around to cleaning the wound needing stitches, and 3 hours to get a glass of water for the patient. Keep looking! "

"My brotherhad a major stroke on the right side and is getting rehabilitation done every day at Courtyard Convalescent Center. When he first entered, he was frail. He’s gaining weight and seems to be happy there. The staff is friendly. They’re steady workers and on guard with the patients. The place is clean. When you walk in, you don’t smell urine. They serve three meals a day. They have an activity director. He has a wheelchair where he can go outside, and there’s a place where they can watch TV and communicate."

"I was a resident at FHCC for only 3 months before Hurricane Harvey forced my displacement to a Nursing facility some 50 miles away -- too bad and sad, because, that was the only reason which would make me leave my new home at Friendswood Health Care Center. My disability dates back to 1995 - 23 years - with tons of experience living in nursing homes/facilities. What I'm leading up to is that with my experience on the receiving end of life in such places, I give Friendswood Health Care Center a 5-star rating simply because they earned a full rating in all areas of caregiving. They have been closed while repairing & getting ready to reopen; I'm ready to return home."

"My father-in-law has been a resident of Harmony Care at Golfcrest. They were excellent. They took care of him every day. And anytime I had any concerns or I just called to check on him because he wasn't answering his cell phone, the nurses would let me know. We went every day to check on him, see if he needed anything, how he was doing, and make sure he was behaving well. Every time we went in there, the place was so pretty clean. We encouraged my father-in-law to go into the dining room to sit down and eat so he could talk to people. Well, he didn't want to go in there. Finally, I think just before he got out, he did go into the dining room and enjoyed it. They do a lot with the patients. And from what I've seen, they take care of them real good. I watched this facility. I'm nosey rosey, I try to find out what's going on because I want to make sure that he's at a safe place. They have good food, too. Everything was accessible even for the ones in wheelchairs. It was nice. I also smelled popcorn there. And they have vending machines. When we would go, I would get him his soda out of the vending machine, and ice for his soda. They did a lot of therapy as far as to get him to walk because when he's at home, he doesn't walk a lot. He's got a house big enough where he could take his walker and walk around the living room because he won't go outside. He'd just look out the windows. And instead of just sitting on the bed, we put another chair in his room so he would get off the bed."

"The people at Garden Terrace of Houston were very professional and attentive towards my mom. She received physical, occupational, and speech therapies. My mom says the food is good. There are times when my mom would not eat her dinner and when she is about to sleep, and she would say she is hungry. So they provide her with some sandwich and Ensure. My mom plays bingo and board games. "

"We went to TIRR Memorial Hermann, and that was a wonderful place; however, Gala was not ready for that level of therapy at the time in her journey with her strokes. It’s a very wonderful place; they are the best of the best and had excellent customer service. The food and the staff were good. They did a lot for Gala. They have total body recovery, cooking, OT, PT, speech, swimming pools, and aquatics therapy. Gabrielle Giffords -- the congresswoman that was shot -- recovered there. It was homey, and there were a lot of testimonials on the wall from people that had recovered there. They were so impressed. They actually have a doctor that worked there, and they have a lot of people that come back as volunteers. "

"Brazos Towers at Bayou Manor was a lovely place. There were three women I met with who were residents, and we had coffee together, and I was able to ask questions of them and hear their experiences. They had all lived there for eight years. They were delightful and very nice people. It looks like a nice place. Their financial requirements are pretty high. If you sign up for it, it's continuing care, and they will not put you out if you run out of money. But they require a substantial amount of money. It's invested and kept. If you don't use the money, 90% of it is refunded, but it still ties a lot of capital. They told me that most people lived there for 12 years, but they do have people who are over 100 living there. The staff took me around and showed me about three available apartments. One of them was in the new section that was built in the last few years. It was more of a modern build. I preferred the older building, which had a more traditional feel to it."
