"I was very impressed with First Colony. I visited it twice. It was sparkling clean, and they have good meals, which I observed. The manager was impressive, and the marketing director was very nice but would not accept my husband. "

"My father is in Focused Care at Beechnut. He's in a locked unit now. It's just too far from us. We live on the south side of town and he's on the west side. They take care of him and they entertain them. Since he's in the memory care unit, he has conversations with other people there and he has dementia, so they're kind of talking and talking and I guess they go along with each other and that also keeps them entertained, but they sometimes do activities for them. My other issue is that it smells. It's clean, but you still have a smell. They take care of him and I don't have an issue with that. My issues are that it's far from me and it is an old place, so it does smell. Otherwise, I'm OK with the care that they're giving him. He's in long-term care in the memory unit. I've been there with him for lunch, and he eats it all. They adapted to him as they give him soft food. If it's chicken, they'll take it apart for him because he's kind of a risk of choking. They cut everything up for him to eat, so it could be safe for him, too. They have bingo, crafts, and for my dad's unit, they'll put music for them and have a little bit of dancing and just little things like that."

"My friend is in Chelsea Gardens. They have an excellent staff and the nurses are just fantastic. It's convenient and it's clean, but I have some complaints. I have never met the house doctor, although I've asked twice to see him. Otherwise, it's a very good facility and all of the people are outstanding. It's a very good facility. They have three meals a day and my friend does eat them, so I guess they're OK. He seems to be happy with the activities. They played bingo, and they showed movies. He seems very content with that."

"The facility is under staffed as far as taking care of patients. The turn over rate for cna's are high. I've witnessed some patients being mistreated by cna's. I suggest you talk to yer friend or relative that is in the facility on a daily basis about everything. The nurses, cna's, treatment, food & proper care. "

"West Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation have a very nice environment. It's a nursing home but it seems very homey and very welcoming. The staff is really nice and very caring. It's super clean and they don't have any issues with the maintenance. Everything is painted and spic and span. They just don't have a lot of available availability for my dad. They're very hospitable. The staff that we met, like the nurses, seemed to know what they were talking about during the tour. They were very knowledgeable and very caring. They also got a good ratio of nurses to residents. They're not new, but the upkeep is done very well."

"I am very pleased with the level of care this facility provides to my spouse. Staff are helpful and tend to my spouse's daily and special needs. I am particularly impressed with the contractors they have come into the facility to provide specialized medical services i.e., nurse practitioner, podiatrist and psychological services. Communication provided by physical therapy staff, nursing staff, business office, transportation staff is excellent. The rooms are kept orderly and clean. The physical therapy department is well staffed and they work very hard to encourage my family member to improve. I would offer the highest recommendation for this facility."

"My mom had surgery so we felt that she would benefit by having 24 hour professional care. We arrived at the Concierge on a Friday. The shift was changing for the weekend shift. We had a bit of a bumpy start. The next day I spoke to Allen the appointed weekend director. Once we communicated our needs things began to change. The nurses were more responsive. Since my mom has a very restrictive diet due to food sensitivities she was eating rice and vegetables. On Monday I spoke to Frances, the official director and she created a menu for my mom which had more variety. Frances cares a lot about her patients. She listens and works diligently in following through. This facility went above and beyond to cater to my mom's needs. The nurses and CNAs were very caring and showed a lot of kindness. It's also important to be realistic. The nurses have a lot on their plates so they sometimes have to be reminded more than once or twice about completing a task that is out of the ordinary. Communication is key. I highly suggest the Concierge to anyone looking for professional care for their loved ones. "

"I am a physician who's mother, whom by the way did not speak a word of english, was admitted to this facility due to Alzheimer's Dementia. In our family we generally try to take care of our own parents but my mother's condition was as such that she did need to be in a lock-down facility and be taken care of 24-7 due to her underlying condition. I visited my mother several times in the time frame that she was a resident there. I was so surprised to see the degree of love that my mother received in her stay there. The staff did not even speak her language and went out of their way to address her with the name we call her, to ask her simple questions in our language ( where we had made simple cards to translate) and simply to give her the love and fiscal affection that we would give her at home if she was living with us. everyone from the nutritional staff, nursing, techs, and administration were incredibly supportive and loving to my mother. As a matter of fact, most of the people that took care of her including the administrator of the facility came to her funeral I have nothing more than appreciation to this facility. As a physician, in many instances I see the humanity is lost in the midst of medical malpractice and documentation. I can truly state that I would recommend this facility to anyone, specially even if their loved ones don't even speak english. there are no words to describe my sincere appreciation. My mother is gone now but I feel that she made a great impression on the employees of this facility and with one last effort she made it known that good care still exists in this country. "

"Cambridge is a great place. The therapy is excellent. Everyone was warm and friendly. The nurses were wonderful. I had a very nice private room. The facility was clean. The food was good. I'm stronger after all the therapy I received and ready to return home. "

"Mom used to be in Heartland Health Care and I had filed a complaint against them. The facility itself was okay. The environment was acceptable. It liked nice and clean. It does not smell. But the staff was much to be desired. They fractured my mom's shoulder while she and she was injured for days and nobody knew. I had one nurse to call me about it and nobody had called me since. "

"I was in Oak Bend Medical Center in Richmond for rehab. They took their old hospital, which was behind the new one, and turned it into a rehabilitation center for older people like myself who've fallen and need to get back on their feet. It's a perfectly good facility for short-term care. It's not designed for long-term stays. They were very good about getting you up and getting you down the hall because they don't want you to stay. They want you to be rehabilitated and go home. The level of care that I was given was very good. The nurses were all good, and that's amazing. They make time for you, and they try to assess all your needs and keep up with your vitals. They're very good about taking care of you. They did seem to have a little trouble with the air conditioning, but they were very good about moving me from one room to another without any trouble at all. The beds were somewhat dated, but that probably comes from the influx of them having constant shifts of people constantly coming in and out. We shouldn't be too harsh with that because most of the people I saw were also pretty hefty. Most of the staff members were very caring and very concerned. You have people coming and going who are very injured, with some like me who broke my hip, my leg, my arm, and my wrist, so they were trying to take as much care of us as they possibly could. It wasn't easy because they had to go on the doctor's orders, and sometimes the doctor is not there, and your condition changes. They had some really amazing food. I don't think I would've paired squash with spaghetti, but I learned to love it, and now that's what I eat all the time. They knew how to cook it well. The squash wasn't all mushy; it was really nice and firm, and you would have liked it even without a sauce in it. It was also good because you were eating all those carbs. This was a fairly good place for someone who's injured and needs to recover. They keep the facility very clean. It has a small gym where they do occupational therapy and physical therapy to help you get back on your feet. The reason you're so well cared for there is that during the day, you also have OT and PT trainers who, if you're assigned to them, will come down to get you and help you. It takes the load off your nurses, which helps a whole lot. Then they have a little sitting area in the front. If I wanted to go watch TV, that's where I went. The residents don't actually get a whole lotta TV that you'd be used to watching in the rooms. It has outdoor facilities so you can go outside and sit when the families come to visit. They want you to get up and walk around and not stay in bed like most facilities. They like to see you up and walking. Whenever I thought about getting up and walking down the hall, they had everything designed for people to hold on to, like rails and things that you can use if you want to exercise. You can also go to the nurse's desk and tell them if you need something, so you're not really trapped in your room."

"I have a love one in this facility .Yes they may have some issues sometime .What facility dont? I know that if I have any concern at all I can let them know about it and they will adress them right away.I would not place my love one in a facility that I am not comfortable with. When I leave to go home I know she is going to receive the best care. The staff truly care and thats important to me.The therapy team is awsome.That is the best rehab team I have ever seen. They truly are well trained therapist. My mother and I are very happy with our decision to come to this facility . We wouldnt change it for nothing in the world. This is her home and as the staff would say her second family. "
