McKinney is a suburb of Dallas, Texas, situated north of the city center. It’s a family-friendly area, with world-class health care, including Baylor, Scott, & White Hospital. About 10% of McKinney’s population of 199,000 are seniors aged 65 and older, an age group who may benefit from the area’s moderate nursing home costs. McKinney seniors can expect to pay an average of $5,171 per month, which is significantly lower than the national average of $7,756, according to Genworth’s Cost of Care Survey 2020.
Nursing homes provide 24-hour supervision and medical care for people unable to care for themselves or manage their medical conditions at home. These long-term care facilities provide medical treatment as needed from licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants, plus help with mobility, personal grooming, eating and continence care from trained attendants. Because of these extra services, nursing homes have higher monthly costs than other kinds of elder care. Individuals who don’t require 24-7 medical care may find that home health care or assisted living accommodations are a better fit.
This guide explores the cost of senior care in McKinney in more detail. It also lists local resources that may help seniors and their families.

Baybrooke is simply awful, I had some clothes stolen, and I had a bottle of Hydrocodone (which I forgot was in my purse) stolen.
I contracted 4 UTI’s where I had to return to the hospital each time. This came from waiting hours to be cleaned up. Then I contracted COVID where they threw me in a room with no oxygen, nothing at all. My daughter came and saw my condition and called an ambulance. I was taken back to the hospital where I was put on a CPAT machine, and other things, I was placed in ICU and my daughter was told had she not brought me in, I probably wouldn’t have made it through the night.
The day staff was pretty good, but the night staff (especially the male nurses) were absolutely terrible.
In addition they changed my medications, took some away etc.
Physical and Occupational Therapy were pretty good, I had come pretty far until I got COVID and was in the hospital for 4 weeks. I lost any Therapy I had accomplished, and now starting from day one again.
I DO NOT recommend this facility at all, unless you really don’t care about your family member.

The staff is really attentive and mostly great. They have a really niced wing for veterans. Room doors can be left open for socializing with other patients.
Food is well above par. Even soft food is not NOT thrown in a grinder and divided between cups and bowls. It is separate and tastes good.
This is a locked facility which I think is a good thing. Parking while visiting is easy.

This place is HORRIBLE!!! Stay FAR away!! My grandmother moved in here directly from the hospital and ESCAPED on her first day. She was brought back to the facility by a McKinney police officer after 911 was called by a few very kind pedestrians.
Let me clarify the condition of my grandmother. She has Leukemia, lung cancer and is extremely under weight. All therapy has been discontinued. She is on an end of life plan. She’s fragile and moves slowly. This tells me that no one had checked on her for an extended period of time for her to get out of her room, down the hall, out the door, walk clear across the property and al the way to Lake Forest. She hasn’t walked that far in MONTHS! HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN?! Under qualified staff members with no safety protocols in place.
To make things worse, we were trying to contact her while this was going on. We called her room several times with no answer. We eventually called the front desk and were told they would have her call us ASAP. Maybe if they would have gone to let her know we were trying to get ahold of her, they would have found that she was missing from her room.
My father called the next day to transfer her to another facility. They took ALL day to complete their portion of the process. Was it so they could collect their dues for a full 24 hours? Probably.
If you care about your loved one, their safety and their supervision, choose a different facility.

Hello All:
My sister was at Stonemere many many times for Rehabilitation when she ended in the hospital and they would turn her around in 2 weeks and she would go back to her home.
Then lately she started declining and kept getting aspitational pneunomnia and the hopsital wanted us to put her on hospice. That was in Oct. 2022.
It was heartbreaking for me because it was like I was waiting for her to die. But the good care and Kirk Nutrition Director with his pureed food and thickened liquids.
Kept her alive for 6 more months I am very greatful to them. So If you need a good place for your aging or aliling family member I highly suggest Stonemere you won’t be sorry. Matt Director was great too. Also listened when i had something I wanted to try with Janice.
Melissa the Head Nurse was very attentive. And Mary Lou always brought her over from the hospital right away. They had activites there she loved bingo singing and dancing. Most of which she did in physical therapy.
I can’t say enough about them. I hope this helps someone. JIllk

The experience went from lovely, which is what the short term reviews are about, to so dismal. I have a family member that volunteers at a small nursing/rehab facility and it has many daily activities. However, our family member who came from an Allen, Tx assisted living, walked tine with a walker. We even took her to eat weekly…however, when moved to the ‘fancy’ looking Belmont, she was sat in a wheelchair and even a Catheter. It alone was painful but not exercising her legs to walk like at the assisted living, leaded to her going through excruciating enimas when she never had ANY problem prior. I only learned how bad she was suffering when I was decorating her room for Christmas…She was napping in her bed and started crying out " No more, stop, you are hurting me! Stop hurting my butt" . I called my sister, an MD immediately, think she was being assaulted but my sister said she has cried about this to her children, including the one that was the RP, before the savings ran out. She endured this for 3 years and I was sick about it every day until she died…
The ‘nice ‘ workout facility was never utilized by actual residents with staff. The daily activities was only a church service and one bingo a week. There was nothing for her to do but stare at that laptop sized TV , which got smaller when the money ran out, and reminded me of an episode of ‘the Twilight Zone. I am still troubled but once the savings runs out, it becomes impossible to move to a better facility. –Please think hard about this. Nice lunches do not make a life!

It’s very clean, and very nice, and all the staff are very pleasant. It doesn’t smell, and they seem to keep it really clean. I have no complaints about it. It’s hard to give anybody a five, but we were very pleased there with the food and the care. Most of the staff members were good, but some weren’t, but their food was quite good.

mom moved here after developing sepsis at another Nursing home. She was admitted during the omicron surge in early Dec, the facility has been very attentive to regularly test employees/residents and make sure we use proper PPE when visiting. Over the 2 months she has been at VGF – things have become much more organized and she gets her regular showers and sheets changed. The staff and rehab staff have been very good with my mom to make sure she gets up and walks with her walker. The one area to improve would be the menu and type of food served.

Financial Assistance for Nursing Home Care in Mckinney, Texas
Many seniors and their families use some form of financial assistance to help them pay for nursing care. The main options available are Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans benefits. These programs can be complicated, especially when it comes to benefit terms. Below, we give a brief overview of how these programs may be used towards paying for skilled nursing care.
- Medicare: Medicare will typically cover all skilled nursing costs for the first 20 days of one’s stay in a nursing home and a portion of the costs until day 100. After 100 days in a skilled nursing facility, Medicare will not cover any part of the cost of the stay. While this is adequate when short-term care is needed, those in need of long-term care will need to either pay out-of-pocket or use another source of financial assistance.
- Medicaid: Medicaid covers most of the costs of living in a skilled nursing facility for those who qualify. Care, room, and board are covered with no time limit, but residents may be charged for extras like specially prepared food or cosmetic services. Medicaid eligibility standards are strict and complex, so not all seniors are eligible for Medicaid benefits.
- Veterans Benefits: Veterans receiving a VA pension may also be eligible for the Aid and Attendance benefit administered by the VA. Aid and Attendance is a monthly allowance that beneficiaries may use to pay for their long-term care, including skilled nursing care.
If these options aren’t available to you, check if your loved one has long-term care insurance or contact your Area Agency on Aging to ask about any local financial assistance programs for seniors.
