"I visited Abaco Rehabilitation And Nursing Facility, to visit an old mentor of mine. He had to be the youngest man in the home. In his mid Forties . The reason he was there is because he had liver cancer. His cancer had spread so bad that he was incapable of doing anything himself, and the hospital had moved him to this home. The home was very nice. It looked like everything was new and also like everything was cleaned often. It looked like they took good care of all their equiment. The staff was very nice to my friend, who kept joking with them. They joked right back. They also seemed to check in on him a lot, and all got him whatever he needed. The Abaco Rehabilitation And Nursing Facility seemed a very professional place and if you were in need of a nursing faclitiy i would highly recomend it. "

"I liked The Laurels of West Columbus. They were very open and friendly. Everything seemed very new and clean, and the rooms were very big and nice. The staff who gave me the tour was very nice. Other than the price, everything else was great."

"My friend is staying in Majestic Care of Columbus for skilled nursing. Some of the administrators are caring. They do things to care about the residents. Some of the staff are great and some of them you can tell don't care. The only thing that my friend eats there is grilled cheese sandwiches. The facility has a smell. It's not well-maintained. They do bingo and some more activities. The room size is terrible. They're small, and there's not enough privacy in between patients."

"I liked Ohio Living Westminster-Thurber. There are three different buildings with three different names in the independent living. The two buildings are new. There's nothing about it that I didn't like. Maybe parking would be kind of a problem. We went through some very lavishly furnished, unbelievable units that have some very vibrant older people doing all kinds of activities. They have a pool. They're going to have a second pool. They're constantly updating and fixing things. They have an indoor shuffleboard, a game area, and a library. The Columbus Metropolitan Library comes there every week or so and brings more books and people request books from the library and they bring them. They have just every kind of activity you could imagine. They don't have the actual best food arrangement. It's a buy-in community and so you can have a little bit cheaper monthly rent, but it's expensive to buy in. Also, you get $100 worth of free meals a month. They're fine with cooking in their own units because they've got nice kitchens. You wouldn't have to go to a lunchroom to eat all your meals. It seems to me to be a very worthwhile place. They gave us a nice salad with chicken and it was good. It's a nice facility. It has excellent views of downtown and because it's a buy-in, you never leave. They have a memory care facility. They have a hospital-type community area, so you don't ever have to leave there as you age and run out of money. There are two places where you can garden yourself. They have areas where you can sign up and get a raised bed. The people there also grow herbs and you can just go down there and cut your own herbs anytime when they're ready. There's a garden club that takes care of all of that. They have committees. You can join any committee that you want to join. These committees deal with the management. If they want to have a program or they have an idea that they'd like to start doing some sort of program, they all get together and make that decision and then they run it by the management. If you have a problem with something, your peers who live there in the place make those decisions. They request this and that. There's nothing that could be better than the way it's run. It's nice."

"Even though this health center is "rated" a 2 star, the staff provide 5 star care. The care my mother received during her recent stay on the short term rehabilitation unit was excellent. The nurses, therapist and other staff were so caring. If the renovation were completed, I would have rated First Community a 5 star. We did have a minor issue that was handled professionally and resolved immediately. My mother will be going back for rehab after her next surgery. "

"The building is fairly clean and fairly well maintained on the inside of the building, as well as the outside areas of the building. The majority of the staff are both courteous and helpful to the members living there and very professional. The food in the facility could definitely stand to be improved though. Most of the meals served within the facility both look and smell fairly poor and very unappetizing. The outside of the building is landscaped nicely and has garden areas where residents can go outside and enjoy a bit of nature and beauty. "

"The first thing that needs to be commended about this facility first and foremost is the staff. I can only imagine how stressful working in this type of envoirnment can get at times, yet every experience I can remember with staff was sincerely cordial and caring. Everything was taken care of in a prompt, reasonable manner and they seemed to really pay attention to detail, a great indicator of passion for what those involved were doing. Another great trait was cleanliness, another attribute I'm sure isn't easy to attain in a facility at all times of day, yet everything in the regard was always kept in tip-top shape as far as I could tell and hear. Overall, there's just a general sense that the people working there are not there first and foremost for a job and paycheck, but to genuinely help those in residence there. The general look and feel of the interior is very warm and pleasant, more hotel-like than nursing home, and while not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, must be a welcome comfort to those residing and working there. The only negative of note I can think of was that it had a bit of a confusing layout, mostly that places were not centralized or funneled in well, but that may be more subjective than anything else. Very good-Great facility overall. "

"I did get my dad in a rehabilitation center named Isabelle Ridgway. The staff is very good. The building is very clean. There is no smell or strange odors. The building is located across the street to one of the best hospital in the US called OSU East. I have tried the food for a couple of times personally, and it was OK. They have all sorts of activities like bingo, karaoke, checkers, and whatever else senior citizens like to do. Security is up to par because you have to ring a bell to get in. Also, if you try to walk out the building, and you are called a runaway, you have an ankle bar on your ankle. The dining area is very clean. It was OK. Of course every facility like that needs more staff. The staff stood out to me. "

"The facility was clean and orderly whenever I entered (several times between 2011-12). The staff was helpful to both patients and their visitors, and I never saw a single client who was left without assistance in their rooms. I personally witnessed the staff go above and beyond for their clients, never seeing an unanswered call light for longer than 15 minutes with a staff constantly in motion and attentive. "

"It is a good place with nice rooms. The people who work here are nice and provide good service. There are 144 residents. The food is fair. They have a good rehab center because my legs are getting stronger."

"My mother is currently at Arlington Court Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center, and it's been good. I haven't had problems with them. They're trying to give her skilled care and take care of her. The staff has always been very helpful to me and informative. She mostly eats in her room, and she likes most of it. However, it's hard for me to call and contact them and sometimes they don't answer the phone, but most of the time, it's pretty good. The food is really good. It's a beautiful facility. They're doing a good progress with her."

"My mother needed rehab after having her knee replaced. As would be standard protocol, she received physical and occupational therapy. But, they went the xtra step and provided speech therapy for cognitive retraining. Because the therapist worked on memory skills/problem solving/comprehension of what she hears & reads, she became more safe, more compliant, more mobile more quickly. (She had been in another adequate facility and did not make progress. There was concern that she might not be able to return home. She received physical and occupational therapy but not speech.) My mother's Alzheimers/dementia baseline is mild but any surgery or illness can cause a decline. Because she transferred to a facility with a Team cognitive approach (nursing followed therapist's suggestions so there was good follow through), My mother returned home and at a cognitie level better than prior to surgery. "

"We have used this facility for rehab following major surgery on family members. I have also had friends there. It is clean, pleasant, professional, has good food, has comfortable rooms/porch for meeting with patients outside their rooms. Physical therapy maintained a regular schedule as did family treatment planning meetings. There is a nice walkway around the building but no enclosed courtyard. They do not take patients who wander. They have single and double rooms. The double is more like a suite as there is a wall between 2 large bedroom areas with a shared bathroom. It is the only facility that I know of in this area that will put married couples in the same room. A spouse with dementia can be there with a spouse that can help monitor him/her. I would recommend this facility, however, except for the above situatiion as they do not have dementia care capability in severe cases. "
