I did get my dad in a rehabilitation center named Isabelle Ridgway. The staff is very good. The building is very clean. There is no smell or strange odors. The building is located across the street to one of the best hospital in the US called OSU East. I have tried the food for a couple of times personally, and it was OK. They have all sorts of activities like bingo, karaoke, checkers, and whatever else senior citizens like to do. Security is up to par because you have to ring a bell to get in. Also, if you try to walk out the building, and you are called a runaway, you have an ankle bar on your ankle. The dining area is very clean. It was OK. Of course every facility like that needs more staff. The staff stood out to me.

The facility is dirty and in poor repair. The heat went out in the first room that my mother was in (across from the nurses station). My mother with advance dementia was placed initially in that room so that the nursing staff could closely monitor her well being. They moved her to a room much further away and was monitored no more in the 1st room than the first. The second room had a bed with a broken footboard. The staff was friendly enough but they did not pay enough attention to providing personal care to my mother, which in my opinion resulted in her acquiring two urinary tract infections, hospitalized for one. During the final two weeks of her "respite stay" she fell 5 times. She had no injuries but it demonstrated a lack of attention by staff. Contacting the facility was difficult at best, with the phone going mostly unanswered. This was not an isolated incident as the Aetna case manager was also unable to get through and faxed service authorizations were missed and not signed and returned as requested. The staff could call for whatever reason and NEVER leave a message although staff would say that they had. On my mother's final day at the facility, I was set to pick her up to take her home at 2pm. I had been to the facility to assess what would be necessary in taking her home. I received a call from the nurse assigned to my mother for the day. He indicated that the nurse practitioner had called 911 and that she had been sent to the ER for possible stroke evaluation. When describing the symptoms, I told the nurse and practitioner that it sounded like one of my mothers very frequent and routine (mild) seizure episodes and that I should have been consulted prior to any determination to send her to the ER. I would recommend that anyone looking for a short or long term stay in a nursing facility stay far away from Isabelle Ridgway.

Isabelle Ridgeway has a nice, lived-in, homey atmosphere. My brother has been there for less than a month in a private room with outdated furniture. The staff seems to be caring.
